TONGUE-SUPPORT.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters'latent No. 262,510, dated August 8, 1882.

To all whom it may concern Be it known that we, JOHN E. TIFFIN and \VILLIAM A. SMITH, citizens of the United States, residing at Bedding, in the county of Shasta and State of California, have invented a new and useful Device for a VV-agon-Tongue Support; and We hereby declare the following to be a clear and exact description thereof.

Our invention relates to a wagon-tongue support.

It consists of a bar with cross head or piece at one end, the other end terminating with a slot, said bar having an arm or brace extending from either of its edges, and of a second piece or bar which meets and enters slot in end of first-named bar, having groove to fit same with point extending beyond slot. This bar has an upturned piece with horizontal terminus, the bar being curved so as to form a horizontal ending in line with upturned piece at other end of bar.

Referring to the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 shows our device with the parts connected as when attached to a wagon for use. Fig. 2 is a detached view ofpart 2.

Let No. 1, Fig. 1, represent the bar with crosspiece A upturned at right angles thereto; B B, the arms or braces extending from either edges and at right angles with said bar and curved, as shown, with ends turned back,forming short horizontal surface in line with each other; 0, the slot which receives No. 2 at D;

(Modeh) E, the upturned piece of No. 2, the length of which must correspond with the elevation of arms B B of N0. 1; F, the terminus of No. 2, being in line with E.

When the support is to be attached to tongue the bar No. l is firmly bolted to front axle of wagon at the cross-piece A, or passes under axle without cross-piece and clip to axle. The arms or braces B B are bolted to front ends of hounds of gear, with end at slot 0 to receive piece No. 2 at D, which piece is bolted to tongue at E and F, and when so bolted or attached is ready to do its work.

Having thus described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

A wagon-tongue support consisting of two bars, 1 and 2, 1 having cross-head A, curved arms or braces B B, and slot 0, bar 2 entering slot (J at D, and having an upturned end or part terminating at E, and curving from D to F, with flat horizontal terminus or part, which horizontal tcrtninus,together with the upturned part E, the curved braces B B, and cross-head A, is furnished with bolt-holes,for the purposes specified, all substantially as set forth.
