This invention relates t a sash lifter and more particularly to one which is hinged to the sash frame with limited movement.
It is therefore an object of the invention to provide a sash lifter with -a tongue portion and a limit stop, the latter to act as an abutment against further movement of the lifter. A further object resides in the provision of a sash lifter which will not protrude beyond the sash rail a distance to interfere with Venetian blinds. A still further object is to eliminate the necessity of cutting a channel or groove in the wood sash which is a common practice for the installation of sash lifters of the recess type. Another object of the invention resides in the provision of a structure to be used as a sash lifter to be easily applied to the sash frame by means of a plurality of screws.
Further objects will be apparent from the following description when considered in connection with the accompanying drawings in which:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of a portion of a window sash and the lifter,
Fig. 2 is a cross-sectional View showing the lifter in the position to be gripped by the hand,
Fig. 3 is a cross-sectional view similar to Fig. 2 showing the lifter in the non-operative position, and
Fig. 4 is a sectional view taken on line 4-4 of Fig. 1.
The lifter is preferably in the form of a rectangular plate 3 hinged on a pin 2 to a frame plate 5 which latter is secured to the sash frame 8 by means of screws I0. The plate or frame 5 has a section II bent at right angles and the plate 3 is provided with an extension or limit stop I and bent side sections 4.
The limit stop I, which extends above the hinged point 2 also serves as a trigger to be pushed by the thumb in order to open the lifter, from the position of Fig. 3 to that of Fig. 2, so that the fingers can be placed underneath the lower portion of the plate 3. The hinged plate 3 has its Side portions turned in slightly to aid in concealing the under plate 5 and to form ears 6 for the pin 2. The under plate 5 also has the upper portion II turned downward at 'I to fill in the corner of the plate to conform with the shape of the wood rail of the sash and to provide ears for the hinge pin 2.
The operation of the sash lifter is clear from the foregoing description. Fig. 3 shows the window sash lifter in the position in which the latter is not in a position so that the window is to be adjusted vertically. If now the window is to be raised or lowered the stop or tongue I is depressed slightly to force the parts I and 3 into the position of Fig. 2 and the plate 3 is grasped by the iingers to raise or lower the sash. If desired or necessary, a spring may be so placed to 3 Claims. (Cl. 16-115) force the plate 3 to the position of Fig. 3 when the plate is released. It is also possible to place the limit stop underneath the plate 3.
Any number of screws iii may be employed and the lifter maybe made of brass, steel or any other suitable metal or alloy.
I claim as my invention:
1. A window sash lifter comprising a frame plate adapted to be secured on the front and top parts of a sash frame of the window and having a front section contacting and secured to the front part of the sash frame and a top section bent at an approximate right angle relative to the front section to contact the top part of the sash frame, and a lifter plate hingedly secured to rotate on the frame plate lat the common junction of the two sections and having a front surface member and a stop element integral therewith and bent at an angle relative to the front surface member, the front surface member of the lifter plate being normally adjacent the front section of the frame plate with the stop element projecting substantially upwardly from the top section of the frame plate and when the stop element of the lifter plate is manually contacted to force it downwardly against and adjacent the top section of the frame plate the front surface member of the lifter plate will be swung away around the hinge axis from the front section of the frame plate at an angle thereto so that it can be grasped by the hand limited by the stop element of the lifter plate contacting against the top section of the frame plate.
2. A window sash lifter according to claim 1,
in which the front surface member of the lifter plate is approximately rectangular with the side edges bent over to cover the side edges of the frame plate when the lifter plate is in the normal position against the frame plate.
3. A window sash lifter according to claim 1, in which the lifter plate is provided with curved peripheral side edges and ear members to fold over the ends of the frame plate when the lifter plate is in the inoperative or non-lifting position and the ear members forming a part of a hinge connection of the lifter plate and the frame plate.
