Description

(No Model.)
S. SOHEUER.
POCKET BOOK FRAME.
Patented Aug. 8, 1882.
ATTORNEY UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
SIMON SGHEUER, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
POCKET-BOOK FRAME.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 262,482, dated August 8, 1882.
Application filed April 24, 1882. (N0 model.)
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, SIMON SOHEUER, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pocket-Book Frames, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has reference to an improved frame for pocket-books of that class in which coin received in change may be readily inserted through an auxiliary opening of the frame to the interior of the book after it has been closed; and the invention consists of a pocket-book frame of that class which is provided with movable jaws and a guard-piece extending over the jaws, said guard-piecehaving a slotted opening, and a hinged or sliding cover for opening or closing the slot of the guard-piece.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents a top view of pocket-book with my improved frame, showing the auxiliary slot open for inserting change. Fig. 2 is a side view, partly longitudinal section; and Fig. 3 is a vertical transverse section of the same.
Similar letters of reference indicate the corresponding parts.
In the drawings,Arepresents a pocket-book frame of that class which consists of an exterior V-sh aped guard-piece, a, to which the closing flap or flaps of the book are applied, and of twojaws, b b, that are pivoted to thelower ends of the guard-piece a, and prevented from closing entirely by means of inwardly-prqjecting stops d of the same. The jaws I) b are prevented by the stops d from coming in contact with each other when the book is closed, so as to leave a narrow longitudinal space between them. In the middle part of the guardpiece a is arranged alongitudinal slot, at, which may be opened or closed by means of a sliding cover or lid, e, that is guided in side grooves, e, of the guard-frame a. The lid or cover 6 may also be hinged to the guard-piece a, so as to be thrown up when the slot is to be opened and down when the slot is to be closed.
I A stud or button, 0', at one end of the lid or cover 0, serves to operate the same, while a suitable catch, 0 or other fastening retains it in closed position, as shown in Fig. 2.
When a bank-note or gold coin has been the change dropped afterward into the book through the auxiliary opening in the guardpiece of the frame A, for which purposethe lid is drawn back, so as to clear the slot.- The coin received in change is conducted between thejaws b b to the middle portion of the book. The lid 0 is then placed over the slot again, and thus a very cheap and simple means propocket-book withont'reopening the same.
I am aware that pocket-books having a separate openingfor the insertion of coins, besides the usual flap and other locking device, have been patented heretofore, andI therefore do not claim this feature broadly.
Having thus described myinventiou, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. Apocket-book frame provided with an exterior guard, to which the closing-flap is applied, jaws that are pivoted to the lower ends of the guard, guideways on the upper part of the guard, and the sliding cover for opening or closing the slot, substantially as described.
2. Apocket-book frame provided with an exterior guard, to which the closingflap is applied, jaws that are pivoted to the lower ends of the guard, inwardly-projecting stops d to prevent the jaws from closely uniting, guideways on the upper part of the guard, and the sliding cover for opening or closing the slot, substantially as described. 7
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
SIMON SCH EUER.
SIDNEY MANN.
taken out of the book the same is closed and vided whereby change can be inserted into a 6:
