My invention rela,tes to dolls and, more particularly, to dolls wth movably connected mem bers.
Objeets of my inventon are to proyde a doll Wth extensble members, for example, Wth -an extensible neck end wth extensible lmbs, in such a manner that the length of these members can be easly changed, thereby -to make possble changes in the appearance of the (1011, in its size and in its propor-tions, end thereby to provide a, novel aml entertaining toy.
Other objects are to make possible rotation of members or of parts of members about an axis parallel to the directon of extenson, to provide ball joints allowing adjustment of these members or of other members connected to the same in various drectons of the space, and to amplify the variety of possible positions of the members by these means.
A further object is to provide frctonal engagemen-t between the movable parts of the doll whereby these parts Wll stay in any of the adjusted positions.
Stll o-ther objects are to prevent separaton of the mova'ble parts, end thereby to prevent loss of pants 01 members.
Stll further objects are to attan these results with smple means and to provide a doll having the mentoned properties which can be made inexpenslvely.
Stll other objects end advantages wll appear from the followng descripton of an exemplfying embodiment of my nventon, from the appended claims and from the accompenying drawng in whch:
Fig. 1 shows a front view of an illustrative embodiment of my nventon, the extensible members be ng represen-ted extended about half as much as possble.
Fig. 2 shows a cross-section taken along the line 2-2 in Fig. 1 end representing a. broken off part of the embodment shown in Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 shows a. cross-section taken along the line 3-3 in Fig. 1 end representng another broken ofi part of the same embodment.
Fig. 4 shows a cross-section taken along the line l--4 in F'ig. 1 and representng a thrd broken of part of the same embodment.
Fgs. 2 to 4 are represented on a larger scale then Fig. 1.
Referrng to the drawng, numeral l ndcates the trunk of the (1011, including shoulders 5 end upper leg por-tons E. The trunk I may be hollow and has three vertical cylindrcal openngs, one in its upper sde and two in the lower side of the leg portons 6.
An extensble neck extends from the upper side of the trunk end comprises a plura1ity of telescopically connected parts, for example, two par-ts 1 and 8. The part 1 passes slidably through the upper opening of the trunk end forms a tube ha,vng a lower end provcled wth a flange 9 whch forms a stop preventing complete extraction of the part 1 from the trunk. The upper end of this neck part has an nwardly projecting rm II. The part 8 passes slidably through the opening surrounded by the rim II and has a lower end providecl with a flange 12 whch forms e stop preventng complete extraction of the part 8 from the part I.
A head |3 i-s connected to the upper end of the part 8. Ths connecton is preferably constituted by a hall jont whch may be constructed in anY known end. suitzsble manner. For example, the part 8 termnates in a. ball M whch is snapped into a correspon-dingly shaped recess in the lower side of the head I3. The opening of ths recess s slghtly smaller than the largest dameter of the ball H.
Similarly constructed ball jonts may connect the shoulder portions 5 with arm parts I5 whch have ball-shaped ends IG secured in recesses of the shoulder portons. Each part |5 has a cylindrcal inner space termnating in a slghtly narrower opening at that end of the part which is oppo-ste to the ball 16. Another arm part I! passes slidably through this openng and has e. stop flange 18 at its nner end. A hand 19 may be affixed 01' connected to the other end of the part II.
Each leg may be formed, for example, of three telescopcally conneoted parts. One of these parts is consttuted. by the upper leg porton 6 whch has a, cylindrcal nner space extendng farther up into the trunk 1 and havng a lower crcular opening narrowed by a rm 2|. Another leg part 22 passes sldably through ths opening end forms a tube provded Wth a stop flange 23 a,tts upper end and Wth an inner rim 24 ai; its lower end. A third leg part 25 passes s1idably through the openng surrounoled by the rim 24 and forms a cylinder provded Wth a stop flange 26 at its upper end.
The lower end of the part 25 is connected -to a font or shoe 21. This -connecton may be constituted by a hall joint comprsing a ball 28 formng a,n ntegral part of the font 21 and by a. cor- 1gsp0ndng reoess in the lower end of the ]leg pari;
The descrbed neck, legs and arms form members each of whch can be extended or shortened by shfting parts of ea.ch member in the direction 013 ther common axis. 'Ihe head, the hands and the feet form other members which are not immedately connected to the trunk, but indrectly by extensble memberg whereby these other members are distant from the trunlc. The positions of these distant members are vared by the variation of the lengths of the extensble members and can be addtonally varied by rotation of one shiftable pa1t relatvely to another, end further by turning the balls of the ball joints in their respective recesses. The extensble parts and the parts of the ball joints contact With a frcton that can be easily overcome when the parts are moved relatvely to each other but that is suflciently large to prevent dislocaton of these parts by ther own weight or by on1y slght force whereby the parts wi11 readily stay in any of the pos sible mutual postons.
I desre t understood that my nventon s net confined to the partcular embodiment shown and described, the same beng merely illustrative, and that my inventon may be carried out in other ways without departng from the sprit of my inventon as t is obvious that the partcular embodiment shown end describea is only one of the many that may be employed to attan the objects of my inventon.
Having described the nature of my inventon, What I clam and desre to protect by Letters Patent is:
1. A doll conprsng a. trunk having circular openings narrowed at ther entrance by an internal rim, a limb assembly for each of sad trunk -4 openings including a first part slidable in the trunk opening and havng a stop flange friatonally engagng the Wall of the openng and adapted when extended to engage the internal rm of the crcular opening thereby to limt ts outward. movement thereof, said first part beng hollovv and narrowed ai; ts outer end by an internal rm, a second part sldable in the first part end having a stop flange frictonally engagng the internal Wa1l of the first part and ada.pted when extended to engage the internal rim of the first part thereby to limt its outward movement therefrom, sad first end second parts telescoping wth respeet to each other and wth respect to the trunk end beng rotatably adjustable With respect to each other end Wth respect to the trunk.
2. A (1011 defined in clam 1 and a, third partand hall and socket means connectng the third part to the outer end of the second part.
