This invention relates to drawing boards and more particularly to those of the adjustable drawing type. Y
The conventional drawing board utilizes various schemes of tilting, raising, and lowering and is provided with various adjustments to enable the draftsman to reach all parts of the drawing and in most instances requires the draftsman to lay over the drawing board or to stand and work in unnatural positions on boards of Xed and Semi-xeddesign.
It is an object of this invention to provide a method by which a drawing may be moved longitudinally (up and down) of the surface of a drawing board in such a manner that any part of the drawing may be presented to the draftsman at the bottom of the board while maintaining the parts of the drawing in their original position with respect to the drawing instruments such as T-square, parallel straight-edge, or drafting machine.
It is a further object of this invention to provide a drawing board of the class described having a movable drawing surface placeable at about the height of the average desk so the draftsman can remain seated and move any part of the drawing to the bottom of the board so it may be worked on conveniently without tilting the board,
It is a further object of this invention to provide a new and improved drawing board that will avoid one or more of the disadvantages and limitations of the prior art.
It is a further object of this invention to provide a new and improved drawing board having a movable face on which the drawing may be attached to enable it to be moved to various positions and be adaptable for use with any conventional type of drafting apparatus.
Other objects of the invention will become apparent as the invention is more fully set forth.
For a clearer understanding of the invention, its principles and objects thereof reference is made to the appended drawings and the following description. These together outline a particular form of the invention by way of example, while the claims point out and distinguish the scope of the invention.

Similar reference characters refer to similar parts throughout the drawings.
In the structure indicated in the drawings 20 represents a drawing board having bearing plates 2l positioned at its corners on two opposite sides to support rollers 22 positioned parallel to the upper and lower edges of the board 20. A parallel bar 23 having guide wheels 24 is mounted on the face of the board. A cord 25 is provided for guiding said bar, having its ends 23 anchored to the back of the board at 28 and continuing over the guide Wheels 24 in a criss-cross manner to another set of guide wheels 2.1, thence passing up parallel to the sides of the board and over guide pins 23. A movable blanket 30 passes over rollers 22 to cover the upper and lower faces of the board, one edge thereof being fastened to the parallel bar 23 by pins 3| which also anchors springs 32 and grippers 33 for grasping the blanket and tensioning it properly to present a smooth surface as it travels across the face of the board. A tensioning device 34 for taking up slack in the cord is attached to the board by screws 39 and comprises a block 35 having a hole 36 and slot 3l which is contracted by a screw 38 for holding a knob 40 and cord 25 in adjusted position. The knob 43 comprises a shank 4I of the general contour of hole 33 and slotted at 42 for positioning over the cord 25 to take up slack when needed. The parallel bar 23 is provided with an extension handle 43 to move the blanket 30 and the attached drawing 44 over the face of the drawing board as desired. The sides of th'e board support angle members 45 having one leg positioned below the bottom of the drawing board to support the ends of the parallel bar and prevents its sagging below the board. Feet 43 are attached to the angles 45 to position the underside of the board above its supporting surface to allow free movement of the handle extension and parallel bar. In using the device a drawing 44 is attached to the movable blanket 33 at a predetermined location with Scotch tape or other fastening means and the drawing moved up or down through the movement of the handle extension 43. Should the cord 25 become slack, the screw 33 is loosened and the knob turned sufficiently to tighten the cord, the screw 38 is then tightened to hold the knob against movement and the device is ready for use.
While but one general form of the invention is shown in the drawings and describest in the specications, it is not desired to limit this application for patent to this particular form as it is appreciated that other forms of construction could be made that would use the same principles and come Within the scope of thel appended claims.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is:
1. A drafting board comprising parallel front roller and rear roller, both of said rollers having their axes rigid With the board and being rotatable about their parallel axes, a straight bar slidable across the board, a cord for guiding'said bar, said cord having its free ends anchored to the board, Wheels carried by said bar and pins carried at the upper end of the board to guide the cord along the four sides of the board, a movable blanket mounted endless fashion on the rollers and movable therewith, said blanket having' one end permanently secured to the straight bar, the. other end of the blanket being normally spaced from the straight bar, and a plurality of '4 spaced springs having one end secured to the bar and their opposite end attached to the end of the blanket spaced from said'bar.
2. A drafting board as set forth in claim l, including means for tensioning the cord, said means comprising a rotatable knob mounted on the board, said knob having a slit through which they cord passes, whereby when the knob is rotated, the cord is tightened.
