' 2,620491 BEDMAKING All) John Davies Allport, Burlngton, Vt.
Application September 12, 1947, Serial No. 773537 1 Claim.
The present invention relates to bed-making aids and i't consists in the combinations, constructions and arrangements of parts herein described and claimed.
It has been the observation of the inventor that beds or bunks, especially those placed against walls, are diflicult to make up in that i-t causes undue stretching, reachng and bending of the body to accomplish the same.
It is accordingly an object of the present invention to provide means whereby a bed or bunk may be til ted and at the same time brought forward to enable the person making the bed to have easy access thereto.
Another object of the invention is the provision of means whereby a bed or bunk may be lowered.
A further object of the invention is the provisi-on of simple and efiec-tive apparatu-s for accomplshing the above objectives.
Other and further objects of the invention will become apparent from a reading of the following specification taken in conjunc-tion with the drawings, in which:
Fgure 1 is a plan view of an embodment of the invention,
Figure 2 is a sectional View taken along 2-2 of Figura 1,
Figure 3 is a sectional view taken along line 3-3 of Figure 2,
Figure 4 is a fragmentary plan view of a modied form the invention may take,
Figure 5 is a sectional View taken along line 5--5 of Figure 4, e
Figure 6 is a fragmentary plan view of a further modification of the invention, and
Referring more particularly to the drawings, there is shown theren, in Figures 1 to 3, inclusive, a bed m provided with a pair of outwardly extending rollers H each centrally'mounted adjacent the upper edge of one end of the bed upon an axle !2.
A second pair of rollers l3 is mounted upon axles [4 carried by the bed 'adjacent the low-er rear corner of each end of the bed.
The pairs of rollers ll and [3 are positioned in upwardly ar ched -trackways |5 formed in blocks [6 attached by means of screws I'I or the like to supports 18.
In the operation of this form o-f the invention, it will be apparent that, in order to gain better access to the bed Io for making up the same, it is only necessary to grasp the bed and pull the same forwardly toward the person Operating it line whereupon the entire bed m will move forwardly and the roller ll will come to rest against the forward end of the trackway I5 and the roller l3 will be elevated to a position adjacent the center of the trackway, thus providing the bed with a forward tilt and enabling the operator to gain easy access to both sides thereof.
In the form of the invention disclosed in Figures 4 and 5, there is shown a bed o provided at either end with a forwardly disposed outwardly extending roller !9 mounted upon an axle 20 and a rearwardly disposed roller 2l mounted upon an axle 22.
supports 23 at either end of the bed have mounted thereon blocks 24 having a horizontally extending trackway 25 formed adja-cent the forward end thereof and a forwardly and upwardly extending arcuate trackway 25 formed adjacent the rear thereof. The rollers !9 are mounted in 'the trackways 25 and the rollers 2! are mounted in the trackways 26.
The operation of this form of the invention is substantially the same as that with respect to the form of the invention shown in Figures 1 to 3, inclusive. The forward rollers, upon the operator pulling the bed forwardly, will move in a straight line while the rollers 2| will be carried upwardly and forwardly, thus giving the desired tilt to the bed ID.
In the form of the invention shown in Figures 6 and 7, there is shown a bed o to which is affxed at either end the upper end of a forward link 21 by means of an axle 28 and a rearward link 29 by means of an axle 30. The lower` ends of the links 21 and 29 are respectively pivot-ed to axles 3! and 32 carried by a sup-port 33.
Again, the operation is as above described with respect t-o the first two forms o-f the invention. The link 21 being of lesser length than the link 29, when the bed 10 is drawn outwardly, the longer link 29 will cau-se the rear of the bed to be moved upwardly. The link 29 is bent as indicated at 24 to provide clearance for the same over the link 21 when the bed is drawn outwardly.
I-t will be understood that the forms of the invention shown herein are merely exemp lary and that the iden-tical systems may be utilized for low-ering as well as tilting the bed and that oounterweights or springs may be provided to allow for the moving of the bed with greater ease. Power, also, may be supplied in the form oi' hydraulic or other pressure-operated means and the device may also utilize cables and pulleys or :balls and sockets to effect the same results.
What is claimed is:
A bed structure ad-apted to be longitudinally positi-oned adjacent a wall and comprsing a frame having a relatively long inner side, a relatively long outer side, and a pair of end members, a pair of vertical standards each spaced in paral- 1e1 relation to one of said end members, a horizontally extendng block affxed to the inner side of each standard, each of said. blocks having an upwardl'y extending arcuate slbt formed therein with it's* center co'incide'nt with the center of said block, a roller carred by each of said end members adjacen-t the inner side of the frame, and a 4 roller carried by each of said end members adjacent the center thereof, each of said rollers being positioned in the slo t in the block adjacent thereto.
