Description
Oct. 28, 1952 L. M. KAHN SHIRT FORM WITH COLLAR STRIP LOCK Filed July 14, 1950 H H Wm" INVENTOR. LAWRENCE M. KAHN ATTORNEY Patented Oct. 28, 1952 Lawrence M. Kahn, New York, N. Y.
Application July 14, 1950, Serial No. 173,712
4 Claims. (01. 223-71 This invention relates to new and useful improvements in shirt forms with collar strip lock-s.
More particularly, the invention proposes a shirt form provided with a collar tab portion engageable into the back portion of the collar of a shirt mounted on the shirt form. A collar strip is provided for engaging through the collar to hold it in shape, and upright, and a novel lock is associated with the collar tab and the collar strip in order to assist in holding the collar strip in position.
The new and novel lock, in accordance with this invention, comprises a single upwardly directed tongue on the collar tab portion formed by a slot cut in the collar tab portion and cooperative with a single downwardly directed tongue on the center of the back portion of the collar strip engaging downwards through the slot in the collar tab portion in order that said upwardly directed tongue will be in face contact with said downwardly directed tongue to firmly hold the collar strip in position.
Another object of the invention is the construction of a device as described which is simple and durable and which may be manufactured and sold at a reasonable cost.
For further comprehension of theinvention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawing, and to the appended claims in which the various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth.
In the accompanying drawin forming a material part of this disclosure- Fig. 1 is a plan view of a shirt form with a collar strip lock constructed in accordance with this invention.
Fig. 2 is a fragmentary sectional view taken on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a fragmentary view of a portion of Fig. 1 showing the collar tab portion, per se.
Fig. 4 is a fragmentary view of the central portion of the collar strip illustrated, per se.
Fig. 5 is a back view of a shirt form with a collar strip lock constructed in accordance with this invention and illustrated with a shirt mounted in position thereon.
The shirt form with a collar lock, in accordance with this invention, comprises a shirt form In having a body portion II upon which a shirt I2 with an attached collar I3 may be mounted. I
I4 is adapted to engage into the back portion of said collar I3. A collar strip I5 is provided for engaging inside of the collar I3 to hold the collar I3 upright. This collar strip I5 is adapted to extend around the back of the collar, and its end portions are adapted to extend around the'front of the collar terminating at the front collar opening. Collar support strips of this type are generally known in the art and furtherexplanae tion of its position will not be given in this specification.
A single upwardly directed tongue I6 is formed in said collar tab portion l4 by an arcuate slot H which is cut in said collar tab portion I4. A single downwardly directed tongue I8 is formed on the center of the back portion of said collar strip I5 and is adapted to engage downwardly through the slot I! in order that said upwardly directed tongue I6 will be in face contact with said downwardly directed tongue I8, as clearly illustrated in Fig. 2 for holding said collar strip I5 in position.
The downwardly directed tongue I8 is of sufficient length so that its bottom edge rests upon the body portion I I of the shirt form I0, as clearly illustrated in Figs. 1 and 2. The downwardly directed tongue I8 is formed by, slits 20 extending upwards from the bottom edge of said collar strip l5. The downwardly directed tongue I 8 is formed with a rounded bottom end 2|. The bottom portions of the slits 20 which connect with the bottom edge of the collar strip I5 are formed with rounded corners 22. These rounded corners22 assist in mounting the collar strip I5 in position on the collar tab portion I4.
The specific details of the shirt form I0 will not be given in this specification as they form no part of the invention. The invention itself resides in the locking means for connecting the collar strip I 5 with the collar tab portion I4.
The operation and use of the new shirt form With the collar strip lock may be understood from the following:
The shirt I2 is mounted upon the shirt form I0 in the usual way. The tab portion I 4 is engaged into the back portion of the attached collar I 3. The collar strip I5 is extended through the collar I3 of the shirt and then the collar strip I5 andcollar tab I4 are connected as follows. The upwardly directed tongue I6 is pushed 3 2| of the tongue I8 which then may easily engage into the top of the slit H. The tongue I8 is pushed all the way down until its bottom end rests on the body portion ll of the shirt form It). The collar l3 of the shirt l2 will now be supported in an upright position.
While I have illustrated and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, it is to be understood that I do not limit myself to the precise construction herein disclosed and the right is reserved to all changes and modifications coming within the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent is:
l. A shirt form with a collar strip lock, comprising a shirt form having a body portion upon which a shirt with an attached collar may be mounted and a collar tab portion positioned upwardly to said body portion, said collar tab portion being engageable into the back portion of said collar of said shirt, a collar strip for engag ing inside of said collar to hold said collar upright, a single upwardly directed tongue on said collar tab portion formed by a slot cut in said collar tab portion, a single downwardly directed tongue on the center of the back portion of said collar strip engaging downwards through said slot in order that said upwardly directed tongue will be in face contact with said downwardly directed tongue to firmly hold said collar strip in position.
2. A shirt form with a collar strip look as defined in claim 1, in which said downwardly directed tongu has its bottom tip rested on said body portion.
3. A shirt form with a collar strip look as defined in claim 1, in which said downwardly directed tongue is formed by slits extending upwards from the bottom edge of said collar strip.
4. A shirt form with a collar strip lock as defined in claim 1, in which said downwardly directed tongue is formed by slits extending upwards from the bottom edge of said collar strip, the bottom of said tongue being round, and the corners-of said slits in said collar strip being also round.
