Description
Oct. 21, 1952 c. MOORE WRENCH FORTRUCK WHEEL NUTS Filed March 10, 1952 IN V EN TOR.
Patented Oct. 21, 1952 UNITED STATES Arr tries 2,614,444 WRENCH FOR TRUCK WHEEL NUTS Jess C. Moore, Birmingham, Ala.
Application March 10, 1952, Serial No. 275,717
1 Claim. 1
This invention relates to a wheel nut wrench for heavy duty automotive vehicles, especially trucks and the like. It is very difficult to remove the wheel nuts from large truck-type wheels,
especially when they have become set from long disuse with the result that ordinary wrenches are not satisfactory as they do not provide for any fulcrum support. The present wrench provides means which can be quickly and easily placed on the hub of a wheel to thus provide a support and leverage.
Other objects and advantages will appear from the drawing and description.
By referring generally to the drawing, a part of this application, it will be observed that Fig. 1 is an elevational view of a truck wheel with a wrench according to the present invention in position on the wheel for use; Fig. 2 is a, sectional View of Fig. 1 except part of the Wrench is shown being a handle I with integral nut socket 2, the
other part being a crescent-shaped fulcrum or supporting member 3 having a hole 4 adjacent its convex side, the handle to be inserted therethrough. In use, the concave side of the fulcrum member is placed upon the hub 5 of the wheel 6 with the socket upon a nut I. In such a position it is easy for the user to hold with one hand the fulcrum upon the hub while manipulating the handle with the other hand to either apply or remove a nut. Without the fulcrum member 2 c the handle part would be difiicult to control especially in removing a very tight fitting or rusty nut.
The parts of the wrench may be made of any material suitable for the purpose, but I prefer to use iron or steel. Also the parts may be made in different sizes and capacities, depending on how and where to be used.
While I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, I do not wish to limit same to the exact and precise details of structure, but reserve the right to make all modifications and changes so long as they remain within the scope of the invention and the following claim.
Having described myinvention I claim:
A nut attaching and removing wrench of the character described comprising an L-shaped handle, said handle having a nut-fitting socket in one end thereof, a crescent-shaped fulcrum member, said fulcrum member adjacent its convex side having a' hole therethrough of a size to allow said handle to be inserted therethrough, a concave side of said fulcrum member being placed against the hub of a wheel to thus provide a fulcrum for the portion of the handle adjacent said nut fitting socket.
