Specification of Letters Patent No. 26,131, dated November 15, 1859.

To aZZ whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, FERDINAND M. Sores, of Macon, in the county of Bibb and State of Georgia, have invented a new and useful Method of Registering and Detecting Billiards; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, in which Figure 1, is a front view. Fig. 2 is a cross section.

To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention I will proceed to describe its construction and operation.

The springs 66 are so placed or situated as to prevent the tally (Z from coming through the aperture 2'. The springs are made in the usual manner, so as to permit the tally (Z to pass freely through the aperture 2'. The aperture 2' is situated above the tally (Z in the boX D, so that by pressing the springs (Z, tally (Z will pass freely through the aperture 2' and thus each tally pressed by the player on spring (6 will show precisely the amount of billiards made by each player. The tallies (Z can be made to any number from 1 to or more if desired. The springs b are made of brass or steel in the usual wayso as to work with sufficient power, as to force the tally (Z through the apertures i, whenever the player presses the springs (L which will show the number of billiards made ata single run by the player. These springs Z), can be attached to the tally (Z or around the lower portion of tally (Z as shown. Springs 0 are placed in connection with tally (Z, that when the player presses on springs (Z the tally (Z cannot be pushed down, through the aperture 1', unless by the revolving of cylinder A.

A is a cylinder which is turned by handle or key so that when one half or a whole game has been played the tally (Z which may have been pressed by the spring (Z through the aperture 2', will be replaced by the revolving of cylinder A. On the cylinder A are attached pivots c and f for the purpose of operating in connection with springs c and notches g, the points when pressed against springs 0 will release the tally (Z so that the points 6 can fall into the notches g and pull down tally (Z through the revolving of cylinder A. The springs will close up the aperture 2' and this will prevent the tally (Z from making its appearance, until the springs are pressed.

On one end of cylinder A is attached a cogged wheel gearing into wheel B, which will move when the cylinder A revolves and thus the wheel B will revolve with the wheel attached to the cylinder A, and through this wheel B, the owner of the billiard tables will be able to know how many games have been played during the day and night, in his absence. \Vheel B has a cylinder C attached, upon which are pins f which operate on tallies l and 2, which denotes the number of games playedtwo only shown, but there may be as many as desired. The tallies 1 and 2 are kept in position by springs 71.

The whole is incased by a box D and also a private box to which the owner alone has access. The game can be kept with the tallies 1 and 2, and in its place a common clock dial may be placed with the figures 1 to 12 or more if necesary to show the number of. games been played.
