Still another object of this invention is to provide means facilitating the treatment of wooden, metallic and other surfaces, either lacquered, varnished, shellac-coated, enameled or painted which, upon application of the impregnated cloth will be cleaned, polished and disinfected.

Still another object of this invention is to provide means for producing a glossy and long lasting polish on the aforesaid surfaces which, when worked upon by means of the new compound will also be subjected to cleaning, filling in and hardening actions.

In accordance with the present invention, the character of the original finishing substances used for wood is substantially approached in the present compound or substance incorporated in the cloth or similar carrier so that the polishing operation becomes substantially equivalent to the finish applied to the article after its manufacture.

Principally, the invention aims at a new composition of matter and its incorporation in a cloth or similar carrier which composition includes a plastic finishing agent which is capable of being uniformly applied to the cloth carrier, is economical in use and instantaneously ready for application to suitable surfaces, said composition being transferred onto the respective surfaces by rubbing it briskly e. g. on the surface of woodwork (if worn out places thereof are to (or. zen-2am With the addition of turpentine 2- i be: restored .torpreviuus'zlustre). orrmerely glntwip.- ing: the wnodi'voriri. surfaces. evenlyf ands gently (it the? same: are: to::b"e finished; :pjolished: onirervitalizedi.. 1: J

Other objects of the invention will appear as the description proceeds; it being understood, however, that it is not intended that the invention be limited to the exact details described herein; and it is further intended that there be included as part of the invention all such obvious changes and modifications thereof as would occur to a person skilled in the art to which this invention pertains and as would fall within the scope of the claims.

The compound may preferably consist of the following ingredients in the following proportionate relationship:

Per cent Synthetic resin of the phenol type, such as a phenol-formaldehyde resin containing a thinning substance in the form of a resin varnish 10 to Liquid soap, such as pine oil soap with chlorophyl 10 to 8 to 14 10 Vegetable and mineral oils, such as lemon oil 15 to And/or parafiin oil 15 to Acetic acid; 12 to 16 Alcohol, such as butanol 5 to 8 Ammonia softened water remainder.

The cloth used as a carrier may be in the form of cheesecloth or soft flannel which is impregnated with the aforesaid composition and then enclosed in a container during non-use.

Of the aforesaid ingredients of the compound, the most important one is the special varnish containing phenol formaldehyde resin which is so composed that it dries upon being exposed for a relatively long period of time to the atmosphere. The quality of the composition is such that it remains in condition for use over a long period of time when preserved in a closed container.

The cloth may be used as though it were an ordinary polishing cloth but instead of merely polishing the work surface, it actually provides a finish thereon which possesses an affinity to varnish, lacquer or similarly treated work surface.

It is well understood that deodorants and scent-improving or perfume substances of known description may be added to the compound.

It can thus be seen that there has been provided according to the invention as a new composition of matter, a polishing agent, comprising in combination a thinned phenol-formaldehyde resin, a liquid soap with the addition of turpentine, said phenol-formaldehyde resin and said liquid soap being present within said agent in substantially equal amounts, lemon oil, and paraflin oil each in substantially equal amounts, but larger than the amount of each of said phenol-formaldehyde resin and of said liquid soap, the amount of said turpentine being smaller than that of said phenol-formaldehyde resin and said liquid soap, and further a cleansing vehicle containing a mixture of acetic acid and alcohol, the remainder being water.

The several ingredients hereinabove referred to which impart certain properties to the polishing cloth, such as cleaning (dirt removing), hardening and other desired effects, are illustrative of the formula forming the subject matter of this invention. 1

Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new and desired to be secured by Letters Patent, is:

1. As a new composition of matter, a polish- 4 ing agent, comprising, in combination, resin varnish containing phenol-formaldehyde resin ranging from 10 to 15% by weight, a, liquid soap in the form of chlorophyl containing pine oil soap ranging from 10 to 14% by weight, whereby said formaldehyde resin and said soap are present within said agent in substantially equal amounts, 8 to 10% by weight of turpentine, 15 to 20% by weight of lemon oil with the addition of paraffin oil amounting to 15 to 20% by weight, whereby said lemon oil and said paraffin oil are present within said agent in substantially equal amounts and each being present in a larger amount than that of each of said phenol-formaldehyde resin and of said soap, and with the further addition of a cleansing vehicle consisting of a mixture of acetic acid in the amount of 12 to 16%, and alcohol in the amount of 5 to 8%, the remainder being water.

2. As a new composition of matter, a polishing agent, comprising, in combination, resin varnish containing phenol-formaldehyde resin ranging from 10 to 15% by weight, a liquid soap in the form of chlorophyl containing pine oil soap ranging from 10 to 14% by weight, whereby said formaldehyde resin and said soap are present within said agent in substantially equal amounts, 8 to 10% by weight of turpentine, 15 to 20% by weight of lemon oil, and with the further addition of a cleansing vehicle consisting of a mixture of acetic acid in the amount of 12 to 16%, and alcohol in the amount of 5 to 8%, the remainder being water.

AS A NEW COMPOSITION OF MATTER, A POLISHING AGENT, COMPRISING, IN COMBINATION, RESIN VARNISH CONTAINING PHENOL-FORMALDEHYDE RESIN RANGING FROM 10 TO 15% BY WEIGHT, A LIQUID SOAP IN THE FORM OF CHLOROPHYL CONTAINING PINE OIL SOAP RANGING FROM 10 TO 14% BY WEIGHT, WHEREBY SAID FORMALDEHYDE RESIN AND SAID SOAP ARE PRESENT WITHIN SAID AGENT IN SUBSTANTIALLY EQUAL AMOUNTS, 8 TO 10% BY WEIGHT OF TURPENTINE, 15 TO 20% BY WEIGHT OF LEMON OIL WITH THE ADDITION OF PARAFFIN OIL AMOUNTING TO 15 TO 20% BY WEIGHT, WHEREBY SAID LEMON OIL AND SAID SUBSTANTIALLY EQUAL PRESENT WITHIN SAID AGENT IN SUBSTANTIALY EQUAL AMOUNTS AND EACH BEING PRESENT IN A LARGE AMOUNT THAN THAT OF EACH OF SAID PHENOL-FORMALDEHYDE RESIN AND OF SAID SOAP, AND WITH THE FURTHER ADDITION OF A CLEANSING VEHICLE CONSISTING OF A MIXTURE OF ACETIC ACID IN THE AMOUNT OF 12 TO 16%, AND ALCOHOL IN THE AMOUNT OF 5 TO 8%, THE REMAINDER BEING WATER.
