."This invention vrelates generally 1t0 washi machines, d *:more particularly to a ceiling washer of the type having an ambulant. carriage with an arm pivoted thereon and Jcarryinga bucket which is moved .on the ceiling, ,while a rotaryjbrush within the hucketvand Jets oi? water perform the cleaning operation.
A primary object of this .invention'is to provide a ceiling washer which is freely Vambulant and which can be adjusted jiniheightbyrmerely varying the angle of the bucket supporting varm, as Well as by sliding this ,arm vertically within a pivotedslide bearing on the carriage.
Another object of this invention .is to provide Vanimproved bearing support .for the rotary brush and to combine rotating nozzle means with this brush in a manner leading ,tgimprov'sd efficiency in cleaning ceilings.
Still another object of this inventionis to provlide a ceiling washer in which a single motor is Lefliciently connected with a water pump'and with a I rotary 'brush, and the power transmission J'neans is of ultimate simplicity. I i
IAnd alast object to be specificallylmentioned isjto provide a ceiling washer which isrel'atively inexpensive and practicable to manufacture,
which is safe, and extremely convenient to use,
.and whichwillgive generally eff cient and durable service.
With these objectsdefinitely-in view, together with other objects inherent the .structurefo-f this .device which will become apparent as this vdescription proceeds, this invention residesin certain novel features of construction, combination {and arrangement of parts and portions as will be hereinafter described in detail in the specification. particularly pointed out in the appended claims, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings which form a material part of this application, and in which:
vFigure 1 is a side elevational view of thesessembled machine;
' Figure 2 is another elevational view of the assembled machine;
Fi ure 3 is an enlarged top plan view of the bucket, rotary brush and nozzle structure;
Figure 4 is a vertical transverse sectional vview, oi the structure shown in Figure ,3, the view being taken on the lineJ I--4 in FigureB;
Figure '5 is another viewo-f the bucket, rotary brush and contiguous portions, the yieWbeing similar to Figure4 and taken on line 5--5 thereof but showing the rotary brush and nozzle construct'ion rotated through substantially 90 to show the construction thereof, and the bucket tion-of the'bucket supporting arm,-the upper'portion of "the "carriage and contiguous portions,

Another pair'of 010581116111- here 22 and the member 24 'complete'the lower portion of the carriagepwhi-lethe-angularly5dis posed legs 2-6, secured to the lower-portionof the frame, terminally support the-r0d2'8.'
supported on theplatform'plate I (tare a meter 30 connected by a belt 32 with a--pulley 34 carried on --a shaft 36 which is mounted in bearings -38 mounted on the plate I0, and a fluid pump-4:0 which is driven bythe shaft -'36. This-*plate I0 also carries a water reservoir 4'2 which 'has a drain outlet '44 and which is-connectedto the :pump MI by a'pipe' w.
The above mentioned bucket supporting arm 2011s slidably mounted :within a slide ibearing 48 :which-is pivoted on-thebar128, this slide-bearing 48 being held againstrmoyement longitudinally .of thebarplfl :by any-suitable means suchras the .collars 50. IIfhe upper: end of thearmlii may 'be threaded'ztoreceive a threaded collar 52 and this collar is :bored and; tapped to receive the :upper renclsaof pipes Hand 56,"the lower .endstofwhich are similarly secured another "collar 15 8. is also provided with nipples 10 whereby flexible I this enlarged rim 84 and is adapted for engagement with the ceiling when the device is'being used. The base of the bucket is made with a conical portion 88 which may be apertured and.
threaded at the apex to receivethethreaded-em mechanical details thereof, taken in connection with the above recitation of the objects sought to be achieved by this invention. In recapitulation,
it need only be added that the arm will be adjusted vertically in the slide bearing member 48 in order to bringthe bucket 16 into engagement with the ceiling when the arm is slightly inclined, as shown in the figures, thereafter the spring I38 will automatically hold 'a resilient collar 86 tightly pressed against the ceiling at the successive positions thereon determined by the desires of the operator of the machine. Water, ordinarily burdened with chemicals or soap, will be forced by the pump 40 through the described connections'to the nozzles H8 which will rotate around with, the brush I22 to effect the cleaning tension 90 of the lower part 92 0f the hollow bearing bracket which is generally 'indicated'iby-jthe numeral 94. This lower portion 92'is formed with a shoulder 96 which bears upon the flattened upper-end' of the conical'mein'ber 88 and-a nut-. 98 screwed on the lower end of ,the threaded portion 90 is used to rigidly hold this structurein place.
The side of the bucket is apertured to receive the tube 12 and a water-tight grommet I80 prevents leakage of water from the bucket 16. The
inner end of this tube 12 is secured to a nipple jI02 which'communicates withthe hollow interior ofthe bearing member 94.
The upper part of this hearing member, designated by the numeral IM is provided with a collar Hi6 which receives the shortshaft I08'and which is secured thereto by the set stud I ID. The lower end of this shaft I B8 is rotatably mounted. in a bearing II2' supported centrally of the braces [I4 which are .tcrminallysecured to the inner lowerends of the cone-shaped member 88. An outletI I6 connects the well at the bottom of the bucket '16 with the upper end of the tube 'M, and a pair of nozzles ,I I8 are secured in inclined relation on the upper surface of the upper part I04 of the hollow bearing member, each of these, nozzles communicat-' ing with the hollow interior of the bearing, and
, since the parts of this bearing are formed with an annular tongue and groove representedat I20 it will be clear that the nozzles will turn with the upper part I04 and with the brush I22 which is ,secured to the upper end of the shaft I88, as by a threaded shank I24 on the upper end of the shaft and anut I26, the base of the brush being aperturedto receive the threaded shank I24and a nut or shoulder I28 being provided on the shaft to limit the downward movement of the brush thereon.
The shaft- I08 is operatively connected with a longershaft I30 by means of a flexible connection I32 terminally secured, as indicated at I34,
to these shafts, the latter shaft being rotatably,
mounted, within the hollow arm 28, while the lower end of the shaft I30 is connected by another flexible coupling I36 to the end of theshaft 36remotefrom the. pump 49.
The spring 138 is terminally secured between one of the uprights I2 and the lower end of the arm 20, to bias. the arm-in one direction, that is, towards the vertical from the position illustrated in the figures, so that the bucket will be forced be-of'any desired character, a preferred form being represented'in-the figures as of generally tightly against the ceiling. The brush I22 may The operation ofthis invention will be clearly understood from the foregoing' description of the shaft.
of the ceiling. The water is returned through the ,tubes 14", 5B and 62 to the reservoir 42 which may this invention'should be limited only in accordance with aproper interpretation of the terms used in the appended claims. 7 Q
Having described the invention, what is claimed asnewis: I
