:2 Claims. (Cl. 306-25) 1 This invention relates to improvements in holders for mops, brushes and the like. i

The principal objects of'the invention are the provisions of holder apparatus for a mop or brush which is composed of a relatively few parts that are easily and readily assembled and easily manufactured to result in economy of production.

According to novel features of the invention the device is simple in form and constructed and arranged whereby a mop or brush may be engaged thereby without the necessity of manually shifting parts.

With the foregoing and various other novel features and advantages and other objects of my invention as will become more apparent as the description proceeds, the invention consists in,

certain novel features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more particularly pointed out in the claims hereunto annexed and more fully de scribed and referred to in connection with the accompanying drawings wherein:

Figs. 1, 2 and 3 are plan, side elevational and end elevational views of the base of the apparatus,

Figs. 4, 5 and 6 are plan, side elevational and end elevational views of the latch of the apparatus,

Fig. 7 is a side elevational view showing the components of the invention in assembled relation, and

Fig. 8 is a sectional elevational view on the line 3-8 of Fig. 7.

Referring now to the drawings more in detail, the invention will be fully described.

A base member 2 is provided which may be formed by any suitable means from sheet metal. Said base has an inner or rear end t which is substantially semicircular in cross-section and flares outwardly to a central body portion 6 which is substantially fiat.

The forward or outer end of the base extends outwardly and upwardly in a curving manner to form a loop portion 8.

Said loop terminates in a lip it and shoulders 12 and M are provided, as shown in Fig. 1.

It will be noted that the extremity of the base extends angularly upwardly as shown in Fig. 1. This is to facilitate assembly as will later appear.

Shoulders are provided at it against which the lower or inner end of a tubular handle may abut and a portion at the under side of the base is offset to provide a stop IS.

A portion 2!) intermediate the ends of the base is displaced upwardly to provide a slot 22 and a Z portion of the base is displaced upwardly to provide a spring guide 26, see Fig. 1.

A latch member is provided which has a forward wall 32, a'rear wall 34 and an upper wall 36.

' Forward prongs 38" are provided on the lower edge of'the forward wall 32 which are receivable in slots 38' of the base. A rear tongue lil is provided on the rear wall 35 which'is re'ceivable in the slot 22 of the base.

The upper wall 36 isdeformed at as to provide a depending spring guide as shown inFig. i.

In assembling the parts the prongs 38 and tongue 49 of the latch are inserted in the openings 38' and 22 of the member 2 with a spring it.

The forward wall 32 of the latch-and loopi'part of the base form a-lateral space 48 for the frame part or the like of a mop, brush or the like.

The spring 44 urges the latch 33 upwardly against lip l0 so that the frame part is retained in the loop which is closed by wall 32. The latch is held against lateral or longitudinal movements by the prongs and tongue in their respective openings but is readily depressible against the action of said spring 44.

The frame or mop may be pressed against the latch to depress it and so as to move forwardly into the loop. When in the loop the latch is urged upwardly to close the loop and releasably lock the frame therein. The frame may be readily removed by depressing the latch.

A handle 50 is provided which will preferably be in the form of a thin walled tube of any desired length. The forward end of the handle will at least be formed from tubing.

The rear end 4 of the base is inserted in the end of the handle, the end edge thereof abutting the stop I8. Then the end portion of the handle at the upper side thereof is deformed downwardly into the half-round rear portion of the base as shown in Fig. 8.

As will be observed the upper edges of the sides of the base incline upwardly and rearwardly so that when the end of the handle is deformed as it is the base is secured in place in the handle. The base cannot be rotated relative to the handle and the base and handle cannot be separated longitudinally.

The invention may be embodied in other specific forms without departing from the essential 3 characteristics thereof. Hence, the present embodiments are therefore to be considered in all respects merely as being illustrative and not as being restrictive, the scope of the invention being indicated by the appended claims rather than by the foregoing description, and all modifications and variations as fall within the meaning and purview;and-range;of equivalency of the, appended claims. are therefore :intended to :be

embraced therein.
