Hardware usually comprise a unitary member either of a generally flat transverse cross-section bent from strip stock to provide an intermediate longitudinally curved section and longitudinally extending feet atoppositeends, said feed having countersunk holes therethrough, or of a streamlinedform optionally made of polished and plated die casting or of interlocked metal .stampings'provided with blind tapped holes onits rear side, attachment of such members to a drawer or door being respectively efiectedas by wood screws seated in such countersunk holes-andby machine screws threaded intosuch tapped holes and pro-- jecting through .drilled holes. in. the drawer or door. as best shown in Figs. 5 and 6 is formed with an intermediate longitudinally curved section 2 and longitudinally extending feet 3 at its opposite ends, each such foot having a hole 4 punched therethrough for loosely receiving the shank of a headed fastener such as a wood screw 5 by means of which said base member may be securely attached in a predetermined adjusted position on a drawer or door portion 6, such adjustment being made possible by the clearance between the holes 4 and the shanks of screws 5. Said feet 3 are each further formed with a pair of longitudinally extending tongues or ribs 1 which, as shown, are preferably of curved transverse cross-section and convergent toward the outer ends of said feet so as to define opposed outer faces of a generally frusto-conical form. The curved intermediate section 2 is formed with longitudinally extending guide ribs 8 which are spaced from the respective edges a distance substantially equal to the thickness of the cover member 9 which is adapted to be snapped over said base member. The intermediate section 2 is strengthened against deformation laterally of the drawer or door 6 by reason of its U-shaped transverse cross-section.

Said cover member 9 is of U-shaped transverse cross-section with sloping sides as best shown in Figs. 3 and 4 and is provided with curved edges I conforming with the curvature of the intermediate section 2 and base member I and thus abutting the adjoining surfaces of the intermediate curved section 2. Accordingly, the sides of said cover member are flush with the opposed edges of the section 2 and expose the rear side of the latter. Said cover member 9 is also provided with straight edges II adjacent each end thereof adapted to engage the flat front face of the drawer or door 6, such straight edge; converging and joining the outer face and sides of said cover member 9 in pointed and closed ends I2. Said cover member 9 is preferablysdrawn from relatively thin sheet metal stock, plated after drawn, and is transversely resilient in the region of the straight edges I I with the sides thereof of :shape complementary with the. ribs I of said base member whereby said cover member may be snapped thereover and thus yieldably retained in assembled relation on said base member I. cover member preclude inadvertent removal thereof from the base member I except by the insertion of a wide and thin tool such as a screw driver or knife blade between one end of the cover member and the face of drawer or. door 6.

-In summary, the following is an enumeration of some ofthe main advantages of the pull illustrated in Figs. l--6, viz. the pull'is of a neat, streamlined form concealing the fasteners; the base member is adjustablej pulling strains are imposed on the base membettinstallatioh does not require drilling of holes in door or drawer;

Referring now to the pull illustrated in Figs. 7 and 8, the same comprises a base member I5 preferably of molded plastic material of desired color to'match or harmonize with colors of surrounding objects in the room. In this respect it has been found that very unique effects can be obtained by using colorless or-colored transparent plastic materials. Said base member I5 includes an intermediate longitudinally curved section I6 and a longitudinally extending foot I! at each end, each such foot including a boss I8 with a hole I9 therethrough for loosely receiving a headed fastener such as an ordinary wood screw, for example. Extending longitudinally along each foot I! is a pair of tongues or ribs 20 similar in shape and function to the ribs 1 in the form of pull illustrated in Figs. 1-6 and extending longitudinally along such intermediate section I6 and spaced from the opposite edges thereof a distance equal to the thickness of the cover member 2I are the ribs 22 corresponding with the ribs 8 on the base member I illustrated in Figs. l 6. A central rib 23 along said intermediate section I6 serves to impart strength characteristics to said base member.

Obviously, both members 2| and I5 may be made from the same or different colored plastic or like materials if desired, or alternatively, :the

cover member 2I may be madefrom plastic material and the base member I5 made from drawnand plated metal. Inany case, the pull is of pleasing appearance concealing the fasteners therein and enabling a mounting of the pull with a screw driver as the only installation tool.

To facilitate removal of said cover member 2'I,;'

the feet I! are preferably provided with relieved areas 25 forming a space for the insertion of a screw driver or like tool between the cover memher and the base member. Such relief 25 may, notch in the edge optionally, be in the form of a of the cover member 2|.

,In' addition 'to the advantages-enumerated above with respect to the pull of Figs. 1 6, the pull illustrated in Fig. 7 has at least the following further advantages, viz. the provision of a relief for facilitating prying of the cover member from .the base member; the provision of a decorative base member forming a neat trim for the streamlined cover member; the provision of feet on the base member underlying the cover member to preclude marring of the drawer or door.

With reference to Figs. 9 and 10, the pull of Fig. 7 is shown mounted on one side of a display card 26, said mounting being effected as by wire staples 27 extending through the holes l9 and 28 in feetl'l and through the card, and having their ends bent against the other side of said card. The holes 28 are preferably rectangular so that the headed fasteners for mounting the pull can only be inserted through the holes I9. Within each cavity 29 defined between the cover member 2| and respective foot I! is a headed fastener 30, herein a wood screw of required size. Thus there is provided a unitary display package convenient for shipment and display and complete with one pull and the requisite fasteners therefor.

It is to be understood that while in the preceding description, reference has been made to ordinary wood screws as the fasteners, it, will be apparent that in the case of metal doors or drawers having drilled or punched holes therethrough said fasteners will preferably be selftapping screws or the like which do not require nuts or installation tools other than a screw driver.

In the case of the pull illustrated in Fig. 7 it may be desirable to remove the base member [5 when refinishing the drawer or door to which the same is attached inasmuch as said base member constitutes a visible and decorative trim portion of the pull whereas in the pull illustrated in Figs. 1-6 the base member I is sufiiciently concealed by the cover member 9 as not to make removal of the base member either necessary or desirable.

In connection with the display package unit, it will be evident that the pull illustrated in Figs. 1-6 may similarly be mounted on a display ard 26. In such case, because the feet 3 of base member I terminate short of the pointed ends l2 of cover member 9, no additional holes 28 are required for mounting said base member by the staples 21 or like fastening means.

Other modes of applying the principle of the invention may be employed, change bein made as regards the details described, provided the features stated in any of the following claims, or the equivalent of such, be employed.

I therefore particularly point out and distinctly claim as my invention:

1. A drawer pull comprising a base member provided with a hand grip portion and with a foot laterally offset from said hand grip portion and through which foot a headed fastener is adapted to extend for securing said base member on a drawer front, said base member when thus secured on a drawer front having one side of its hand grip portion spaced from and facing the drawer front whereby the drawer may be opened by exertion of pulling force on such one side, said base member being formed with a rib providing opposed faces which converge toward the drawer front, and a transversely resilient cover member of U-shaped transverse cross-section detachably fitted onto said base member to conceal the fastener therefor and to overlie the other side of said hand grip portion while leaving such one side exposed'for exertion of pulling force as aforesaid, said cover member being yieldably snapped over said rib and having opposed faces which are complementary with and yieldably engaged with the opposed faces of said rib, the transverse resilience of said cover member serving to yieldably resist springing apart of the rib-engaging opposed faces of said cover member as would be caused by prying of said cover member in a direction away from said base member and the drawer front.

2. The drawer pull according to claim 1 further characterized in that said hand grip portion extends across the spaced edges of said cover member so that the surfaces of said cover member which face the drawer front are inaccessible for exertion of pulling force of sufficient magnitude incidental to normal manipulation of the drawer to detach said cover member from said base member.

3. A drawer pull comprising a longitudinally extending base member provided with afoot at each end through which a headed fastener is adapted to extend for securing said base member to a drawer front and with an intermediate hand grip portion laterally ofiset from said feet and having an inside face for exertion of pulling force to open the drawer, each foot being formed with a rib having opposed faces, and a transversely resilient cover member of U-shaped transverse cross-section detachably fitted onto said base member to conceal the fasteners therefor and to overlie the outside face of said hand grip portion while leaving the inside face exposed for exertion of pulling force as aforesaid, said cover member being yieldably snapped over said ribs and having opposed faces adjacent each end which are yieldably interlocked with the opposed faces of the respective ribs, the transverse resilience of said cover member serving to yieldably resist detachment thereof in a direction away from said base member and the drawer front.

4. The drawer pull according to claim 3 further characterized in that said hand grip portion extends across the spaced edges of said cover member so that the surfaces of said cover member which face the drawer front are inaccessible for exertion of puling force of sufficient magnitude incidental to normal manipulation of the drawer to detach said cover member from said base member.

5. The drawer pull according to claim 3 further characterized in that said hand grip portion extends across the spaced edges of said cover member and closely fits therebetween to maintain said cover member in longitudinal alignment with said base member.
