((11. 20-5s) This invention relates to new and useful improvements in window structures and the primary object of the present invention is to provide a window construction including a casing and aframe pivotally and removably secured to the casing whereby the framemay be quickly-and readily removed'for cleaning or repair.
Another important-objector thepresent invention is to provide a window" structure including a casing having a conical opening therein anda frame having a resilient conical covering for engaging the wall of the opening to prevent the passage of water through the opening when the frame is disposed within the casing.
A further object of the present invention is to provide a window structure of the aforementioned character wherein the casing is provided with pairs of ears to which the frame is selectively pivoted to permit horizontal or vertical swinging movement of the frame.
A still further aim of the present invention is to provide a window structure that is simple and practical in construction, strong, and reliable in use, neat and attractive in appearance, inexpensive to manufacture, and otherwise well adapted for the purposes for which the same is intended.
Other objects and advantages reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which:
Figure 1 is an inside elevational view of the present invention mounted in a wall;
Figure 2 is an outside elevational view of Figure 1;
Figure 3 is a perspective view of the present invention and showing the window frame in its open position;
Figure 4 is an enlarged vertical sectional view taken substantially on the plane of section line 4-4 of Figure 1;
Figure 5 is an enlarged fragmentary view of Figure 4 and showing a screen unit in use with the window structure; and,
Figure 6 is a perspective view of the screen unit employed in conjunction with the present invention.
Referring now to the drawings in detail, wherein for the purpose of illustration, there is disclosed a preferred embodiment of the present invention, the numeral 10 represents a cylindrical casing having a frusto-conical opening l2 therein.
A Window frame including a frusto-conical member l4is mounted on the-casing: l0 for movement into and out of'the opening i2 in the/"casing, and a compressible-,preferably rubber, frustoconic'al' member lfi yieldingly embraces and covers the frame-member M. The member or covering 16 will yieldingly' engage the wall of'the opening: l2 as the frame member i4 is moved into th'e casing Ill.
Pairs of ears l8 andZB project outwardly from the major end of the casing Ill and. selectively: receive a lug 22 projecting outwardly from the major end of a frusto-conical retainer ring 24 that is received in the frame member l4. A removable pivot pin 26 extends through a selected pair of the ears I8, 20 and the lug 22. The ears l8 and 2B are so arranged as to permit the frame member I4 to swing horizontally or vertically relative to the casing l0 depending upon which pair of ears receives the lug 22 and the pivot pin 28.
An internal flange 28 is provided at the minor end of the frame member [4 and forms an abutment for an endless resilient channel 36 that yieldingly receives the peripheral edge 32 of a circular window glass 34.
The retainer ring 24 is held detachably secured within the frame member M by any suitable number of circumferentially spaced screws 36 that extend through the ring 24 and into threaded apertures in the frame member [4. The minor end of the frusto-conical retainer ring 24 is provided with an inturned flange 38 that engages the channel 311 to urge the channel against the flange 28.
The major end of the ring 24 is provided with an apertured-flange 40 that rotatably supports a locking member or latch 42 having a finger grip-' ping portion 44. The apertured flange 40 and locking member 42 are disposed diametrically opposite from the lug 22. A pair of L- shaped keepers 46 and 48 are disposed diametrically opposite from the ears l8 and 20 respectively, for selectively engaging the locking member 42 in order to lock the frame member l4 within the opening l2 in the casing l0.
The casing l 0 is embraced by a pair of channel forming angle iron rings 50 that are suitably removably secured to the outer periphery of the casing l 0 after the casing has been inserted into the rings. The rings 50 are first mounted within a circular wall opening 52 in a supporting structure 54 and then the casing is slipped into the rings 50, after which the rings are secured to the casing.
In order to incorporate a screen unit, such as- 58, in the present invention, the rings 50 are removed and a cylindrical casing 60 embraces the window casing l0 and its outer end supports a screen 62 through the medium of a resilient band 64. The casings I 0 and 60 are suitably fixed within an opening 66 in a wall 68, and a finishing ring 10 is detachably secured to the wall 68 about the opening 66.
In practical use of the present invention, the ear 22 of the frame member I4 is secured by the pin 26 between either the ears l8 or 20 depending on whether the frame member I 4 is to swing vertically or horizontally. The covering I6 is compressed as the same is forced with the frame member l4 into the opening ll. of the casing 10 to prevent water from passing about the frame when the latter is positioned in the casing.
Having described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
1. A window structure comprising a cylindrical casing having a frusto-conical opening therein, a frame including a frusto-conical frame member, said frame being hinged to said casing for move ment into and out of said casing, a window glass mounted in said frame member, a compressible frusto-conical covering about the exterior surface of said frame member and engaging the wall of said opening as the frame member is manually moved into the opening, an internal flange at the minor end of said frame member, an endless integrally formed with said retainer ring and received between a selected pair of ears, and a removable pi'v'ot extending through the lug and said selected pair of ears and hingedly securing said frame to said casing.
3. The combination of claim 1 and means locking said frame to said casing to prevent hinging of said frame relative to said casing.
