C. E. AGKERMAN.
SHEAVE PULL BY FOR GATES.
Y No; 260,632. Patented Ju1 y4, 1882;.
Mfizesss; I
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES E. ACKERMAN, OF ATLANTA, GEORGIA, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALE TO vH. WOLFE, OF SAME PLACE.
VSHEAVE-PULLEY FOR GATES.
SPECIFICATION forming part Of Letters Patent N0. 260,632, dated July 4, 1882.
Application filed September 22, 1881. (No model.) I
' To all whom it may concern:
Be itknown that I, CHARLES E. AGKERMAN, of Atlanta, in the county of Fulton and State of Georgia, have invented a new and useful Improvement in sheave-Pulleys for Gates, which improvement is fully set forth in the fol-. lowing specification and accompanying drawings, in which- I Figure 1 is a perspective view of a gate equipped with the sheave-pulley attachment, and Fig. 2 is a side view of the sheave-pulley.
The'object of my invention is to provide'a pulley and weight attachment for gates, whereby they can be automatically closed.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, A represents the post to which the gate is hinged, andB the gate.
The improvement proper; is composed of a bracket, 0, adapted to be secured to the insidecorner of the gate-post by means of screws through the screw-holes C. This bracket has two arms, D, projecting out between which is placed the sheave E. A set-screw, F, passes through the upper arm and into thesheave E, by means of which the sheave may be removed at will or adjusted when the lower pivot is the sheavepulley, and has its upper end attached to the gate B. The opposite end of this rope or cord is provided with a weight, I.
The operation of the device is as follows: The bracket containing the sheave-pulley bein g on the inside of the gate, it is obvious that the cord H, in passing over the pulley, will always tend to close the gate.
The device is simple, easily applied, and effective in operation.
I am aware it is not new to provide a pulley and rope for gates to close the same; and I do not therefore claim the same, broadly.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s-- A gate-pulley consisting of bracket 0, having arms D, in which is placed sheave E, with pulley G, journaled in said sheave, and setscrew F, to allow of the ready fitting together or adjustment or removal of the several parts, all substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 16th day of September, A. D. 1881, in the presence of witnesses.
CHARLES EDWARD ACKERMAN.
