A pair of transverse, lapping rods l5 extend between the posts 8 at the lower ends of the latter, one rod being afiixed to one post and the other rod being afi'ixed to the other post, and such rods being of a length that they remain in lapping relation irrespective of the spacing between the posts 8.

ily seen that there vice as substantially fulfills the objects of the invention as set the posts 8, through a ring [6 fixed to the bottom of a rockable platform 11 which extends lengthwise through the device intermediate the upstanding slide frames 4 When the above described device is in use it rests upon the floor, and the slide frames 4 are separated to the maximum limit which the adjustment screws 'l'permit; the springs l initially holdingthe posts 8 in raised, laterally outwardly retracted position, as in Fig. 1. Thereafter, the
work, here shown as a door [8, is lowered, verti-.
..erallyinwardly advanced position, positively clampingthe cushionpads ll against opposite sides of saidrworkt.
Q, Thereafter, the work is effectively clamped and ,supported in a vertically edgewise position for the positive frictional engageof v.the work not only preventing any lateral fteeteri ng of said work, but preventing longitudinal sliding thereofon the platform H, the latter being rockable in order to matchingly engage the lower edge of the work. In order to compensate for work of different thickness and to assure that thecushion pads H positively engagethe work on opposite sides when the adjustment screws 1 are ,Under certain conditions it may be desirable :to lock the device in a work clamping position,
and to this end one of the slide frames 4 is V formed with a row'of holes 19 which extend upwardly along the inner edge of said frame. After 1 the posts 8, together with the parallel links 9,. are lowered "to work clamping position, across pin (not shown) is inserted through the hole l9 next link 9, preventing said "The bars 1 instead of being tubular, may be of solid stock; in which case feet 3 are secured to the bars by cap screws rather than continuous tie bolts. Y
The device may also be used as a dolly, if desired, by merely mounting the feet 3 on casters.
y The described'work holding clamp provides a very practical and readily manually portable deice for the intended purpose, and when in use maintains the work in a most convenient and accessible position.
From the foregoing description it will be readhas been produced such a depresent and preferred 'construction of the device,
7 still in practice such deviations from such detail may be resorted to as do not form a departure from the spirit of the invention, as defined by the appended claims.
Having thus described the invention, the following is claimed as new and useful, and upon which Letters Patent are desired:.
1. A work supporting clamp comprising a base, a pair of spaced upstanding frames on the base, a pair of spaced upright posts between the frames, means connecting the posts and corresponding frames for movement of the posts between a raised laterally retracted position and a lowered laterally advanced position, means mounting the frames on the base for horizontal adjustment of the frames relative to each other whereby to alter the initial spacing of the posts from each other, work engaging elements on the opposing faces of the posts, an elongated work engaging platform extending between the posts at their lower ends and in a direction parallel to the. opposing faces of said posts, and means sup- ,relative to the posts.
2. A work supporting clamp comprising a base, a pair of spaced upstanding frames on the base, a pair of spaced upright posts between tne frames, means connecting the posts and corresponding frames for movement of theposts between a raised laterally retracted position and a lowered laterally advanced position, means mounting the frames on the base for horizontal adjustment of the frames relative to each other whereby to alter the initial spacing ofthe posts from each other, work engaging elements on the adjacent faces of the posts, adjacent and horizontally parallel members both spanning the gap between the posts adjacent and below their lower ends, one member being securedon one post and the other member being secured on the other 'members, and a sleeve fixed on the post, a work supporting platform above the underside of the platform and slidably receiving both members therethrough.
8. A device as in claim 2 in which the horizontally parallel members are circular in cross section to permit the sleeve to rock about them;
.the platform being elongated in a direction at rocking.
right angles to the axis of MEARL V. TRACY.
