DOOR-CLAMP.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Got. 22, 1512.
Application filed April 15, 1912. Serial No. 690,897.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAooB B. Jon, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cleveland, in the county of Cuyahoga, State of ()hio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Door-Clamps; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention is directed to improvements in door clamps, and has for its object to construct a device of this character adapted to rest upon the floor for efiectually holding and supporting a door by one of its edges for finishing or other purposes.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the drawing: Figure 1 is an end elevation of the clamp showing the door supported thereby. Fig. 2 is a side elevation, the door removed. Fig. 3 is a plan view of the clamp. Fig. 4 is a sectional view on line 44 of Fig. 1.
Referring to the drawing, the numerals 1 and 2 designate the clamping members, each of which consists of an outwardly curved frame 3, the lower end of which being hingedly connected. by a bolt 4, upon the threaded end of which is carried a wing nut 5, so that the bolt may be conveniently removed.
Formed integral with the frames 3 are downwardly curved legs 6, each of which being provided at its lower ends with rubber buffers 7, similar buffers 8 being secured to the circular enlargements 9 formed upon the extreme upper ends of the frames 8, the same being adapted to grip the door 10 without marring the same.
The head of the bolt 4 is provided with a groove 11 to accommodate the heavy wire strands 12, which has one of its ends connected to one of the legs 6, and its other end formed with a hook 13 for detachably engaging the eye 14 formed upon one end of the coil spring 15. The coil spring 15 has one of its ends connected to one of the legs 6.
Hingedly connected to the frames 3, and
at their points of intersection with the legs 6 are downwardly curved legs 16, the lower ends of which are provided with rubber buffers 17 which engage the floor, and in conjunction with the legs 6 support the clamping members in a position to conveniently receive the door 10.
From this construction, it will be seen that when a door is clamped by the members 1 and E2, the weight thereof will tend to more firmly force the buffers 8 against the door, and upon the door being lifted and the weight thereof removed from said members,
the spring 15 will contract and thus draw the legs 6 toward each other, whereupon the door may be removed and the clamping members are then in a position to receive another object. It will be noted that upon disengaging the wire strand 12 from the spring 15, and upon removal of the bolt 4, the members 1 and 2 may be compactly folded one upon the other, and at a time when the legs 16 are also folded, thus conditioning the device for convenient shipping.
The rubber bufiers 7 and 17 have their under surfaces formed with concaved recesses 18 so that the same will more readily grip the floor.
To prevent marring the lower edge of the work when clamped a rubber buffer 19 is provided and is secured to the pivoted ends of the frames 3 by screws 20.
What is claimed is:
A door clamp comprising a pair of outwardly curved frames, said frames being pivotally connected at their lower ends by a bolt having a grooved head, a pair of legs carried by each frame, certain of which being hingedly connected thereto, and adapted to be folded against the frames, a wire strand connected to one of the legs of one frame, a coil spring connected to one of the legs of the other frame, said strand for a portion of its length resting in the groove of the bolt head, said spring serving to automatically open said frames.
In testimony whereof, I aiiiX my signature, in presence of two Witnesses.
JACOB B. J 013.
