Y Application March 5, 1947, Serial mlzszgsts?" -My present invention relates to an improved Mobile Bathing and Lift Apparatus and more especially to a mobile tub for use particularly in hospitals where bathing of ill or injured persons is desirable and providing stretcher means upon which the person may be placed directly from the bed and lowered into the tub.

The invention includes mechanical means for lowering or elevating the stretcher or support into and out of the bath water and for lateral movement of the support with relation to the frame so that the stretcher may be extended over the bed and under the patient.

By this means the patient may be bathed with a minimum of movement and the apparatus may be moved easily from place to place in the establishment.

In the accompanying drawings I have illustrated one complete example of the physical embodiment of my invention according to the best mode I have thus far devised, but it will be understood that various changes and alterations may be made in the exemplified structure within the scope of the appended claims.

Referring now to the drawings wherein I have illustrated the present preferred embodiment of my invention, I employ a tub 2 supported upon the base 4 having caster wheels 6, and a drain spigot 8 is provided for the tub.

At the corners of the rectangular tub I mount angle bars l0 suitably secured and on the upper ends of these bars I provide a platform l2 longitudinally supported by bars M.

In the parallel pairs of vertical,- spaced plates 16 and I8 are journaled a pair of shafts 20 and 3 Claims. (Cl. 4*185 22. The shaft 20 is driven bya sprocket '24 fixed to one end thereof by chain 26 having drive connection with a sprocket 28. A crank 30 fixed to the pinion 28 will by manual operation thereof cause rotation of the pinion 28 and subsequent rotation of the gear 24 and shaft 20 through the medium of the chain 28.

36 and 38 thereon to secure the close corners of the vertically movable lift 40. This lift has side rails 42 and the end portions 44 of the lift are hinged at 46 to permit elevation thereof and they'mayv be secured in adjusted position by bails 48 engageable in the serrations 58 of the side rails.

The shaft 22 is manually rotated by a hand crank 2| pivotally mounted on the plate l6 at one end of the frame. The crank rotates a sprocket 23 over which a chain 25' is trained and the chain rotates a sprocket 21 on the end of the shaft 22.

By the use of this mechanism, the apparatus may be moved to the side of a bed, and the lift adjusted to the same height by operation of the shaft 22. The patient may then be moved onto the lift, and the lift is lowered so that the patient is immersed in the water.

In addition it is often necessary to raise a patient from the floor as from a stretcher without moving the limbs of the patient.

For such needs I provide the carrier 52 supported by cables 54 passing through the sliding support 56 having pulleys 58. These cables are attached to the pulleys or sheaves 60 on the shaft 20 and the sliding support is secured between guides 62 permitting lateral movement of the sliding support. Movement of the shaft 20 in one direction as seen in Fig. 4 will first extend the sliding support laterally and will then upon movement in the opposite direction permit the lowering of the carrier 52'.

The patient may be lifted from the floor by elevation thereof, subject to rotation of the shaft 20, and when the carrier reaches a point level with the lift 40 the patient may then be moved from the carrier to the lift and the lift with the patient thereon may then be lowered into the bath water.

By the utilization of the apparatus of my invention all unnecessary handling of the patient will be avoided and the injured person may be moved either from a bed, or from the floor by the mechanical appliances incorporated in the bathing apparatus.

Having thus fully described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

1. In a bath apparatus having a mobile tub provided at its four corners with vertical uprights and a platform at the top of the uprights having a shaft journalled thereon adapted to operatively raise and lower a lift in said tub by means of cable connections between said tub and said lift the improvement comprising guide means carried bysaid platform at each end thereof,
