Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:

In a sash balance the combination withva Vsash Yc omprising a side member having mortised ends, and top and bottom members having tongues 5 f disposed in the mortises, of a rotatable elongated member having a spiral track, a journal member for one end of said rotatable elongated member and attaching brackets comprising heads and integral tapered blade like prong portions having toothed edges, the blade-like prong portions be- ,ingdisposed with the planes thereof substantially at rightiangles to the lengths of said rotatable velongated member, the prongs being driven into the sash interlockingly engaging the tongues of I the top andbottom sash members, and the sides of the mortises receiving the same, the journal member being non-rotatably connected to one bracket, the other-bracket being provided with a bearing opening for the other end of the rotatable elongated member, the prongs of the brackets being disposed to be driven into the tongues vof the sash members when the brackets areA in assembled relation to `the anchoring rod and tubular member. t .j

In a sash balance the combination of a rotatable elongated member having a spiral track, a journal member for one end'of said rotatable elongated member and attaching brackets comprising head and integral tapered bladelike prong portions having toothed edges, the blade-like prong portions being disposed with the planes thereof substantially' at right angles to theflengths of said rotatable elongated member, the journal member being non-rotatably con- 27'0 e nected to one bracket, the other bracket being provided with a bearing opening for thefother end of the rotatable elongated member, the

An attaching bracket for a sash balance formed of sheet metal and comprising integral head and drive prong portions, said portions being flat and disposed generally in a common plane, the prong portion being tapered and having 'serrated edges, the head having an opening therein for receiving a part of the balance to be supported,'there being a reinforcing rib extending across the merging zone of the head and prong, said rib being struck from the body of the bracket.

An attaching bracket for a sash balance Aformed of sheet metal and comprising a head portion and a blade-like prong portion integral with said head portion, said head and prong portions being disposed generally in a common plane, the prong portion being tapered and having serrated edges and constituting means to bedriven into a sash, the head portion having a pairof spaced ears integral therewith and projecting` therefrom at substantially right angles to the general plane of the bracket, said ears having aligned openings for receiving a pivot pin for 'pivotally supporting a part of a sash balance,
