The primary object of the invention is to provide a pipe of the character indicated above enabling a smoker to obtain a cool. dry smoke by permitting and regulating'the admission of fresh atmospheric air into the stem during the process of smoking. e

Another object of the invention is to provide a pipe of the character indicated 'above having a plurality of grooves formed-in the inside surface of the tobacco bowl and'extending downwardly thereof in order to obtain a'greater smoking surface and to enlarge the cubiccontents of the bowl.

The invention consists in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts of my improved valve pipe with grooved bowl whereby certain advantages are attained, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.

In order that my invention may be better understood, I will now proceed to describe the same with reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein:

Figure 1 is a top view in plan of a preferred embodiment of a pipe in accordance with the present invention.

Figure 4 is a view in section taken on line 4-4 in F gure 2.

The tobacco pipe as herein embodied comprises a tobacco bowl 18 of conventional shape and made of any suitable material and a stem H preferably made integrally with the bowl H]. In order to enlarge the cubic contents of the bowl ID a plurality of grooves l2 are formed in the inner surface of the bowl and this arrangement increases also the smoking surface of the bowl.

A metal ring 22 or thelike' surrounds'thel'rear end portion of-the stem l'l'an'da second ring 23 of asmall diameter is secured or formed on top of the ring 22. A blind hole 21 is provided in the rear surface of the tobacco bowl [8 and is arranged coaxially with the ring 23. An adjusting rod 28 is rotatably supported by the blind hole 21 and the ring 23. Adjacent the front end of the adjusting rod 28 a hole 29 extends through said rod at an acute angle to the axis thereof and a hole 30 in the pipe communicates with the bore I6 of the stem H and is rotary adjustment of the rod 28.

The adjusting through the ring which is threaded the thread in the thereof and engages the rear end of the adjusting rod 28 preventing the same from accidental removal and axial displacement.

A small adjusting lever 34 is fastened onto the adjusting rod 28 to facilitate the manipulation of said rod and is preferably made from Wire.

A slot 35 is provided in the rear end surface of the. stem H and extends radially from the counterbore 28 in the stem. A notch 36 in the rod 28 extends only partway 23, the rear end portion of as at 32. 1. A tobacco pipe of the class described having is rotatably po sia bowl provided with a hole in the side thereof, a

stem and a mouth piece including an annular member surrounding therear end portion of the stem, a second annular member on the first an nular member, an air inlet hole extending diametrically through the two annular members and a second air inlet hole extending radially of the stem and arranged coaxially with the first air inlet hole, and an amusting rod rotatably supported by the second annular member of the said hole in the bowl and provided with a diametrical hole passing through the rod and adapted to be disposed coaxially with the air inlet holes by proper rotary adjustment of the adjustment rod.

2. A tobacco pipe of the class described having a bowl provided with a, hole in the side thereof, a stem and a mouth piece including an annular member surrounding the rear end-portion of the stem, a second annular member on the first annular member, an air inlet hole extending diametrically through the two annular members and a second air inlet hole extending radially of the stem and arranged coaxially with the first The pipe bowl l is aligned with fresh air to be of the stem H to assure .4 air inlet hole, an adjusting rod rotatably supported by the second annular member and the said hole in the bowl and provided with a diametrical hole passing through the rod and adapted to be disposed coaxially with the air inlet holes by proper rotary adjustment of the adjustment rod, and means for preventing accidental removal and axial displacement of the adjustment rod.

3. A tobacco pipe as set forth in claim 2, wherein said means comprises a screw threadedly engaging the rear end portion of the second annular member and abutting the rear end of the adjusting rod thereby preventing accidental axial movement thereof.

4. A tobacco pipe as set forth in claim 2, wherein said means comprise a screw threadedly engaging the rear end portion of the second annular'member and abutting the rear end of the adjusting rod thereby preventing accidental axial movement thereof, and a lever on the adjusting rod for facilitating the rotary adjustment of said rod.
