(Cl. 242158) This invention has reference to building mechanism for package of textile yarns in textile machines wherein yarn is built into packages on bobbins, tubes or the like mounted on vertical spindles, by the up and down reciprocation or traverse of a device such as a ring rail, the general construction of such machines being well known and understood in the textile industry though the machines are not all alike in detail and are known under many names.
The present invention has for its object to provide improved mechanism for controlling the traverse of the ring rail or of the spindle rail which shall be more efficient than mechanism used at present for this purpose and which is especially useful for the building of large packages of rayon, though not limited to such use, whereby better packages are built and variations in the type and shape of the packages are easily and exactly effected, the mechanism being strong and of comparatively simple construction.
According to this invention yarn package building mechanism for textile machinery of the kind referred to comprises two stop members mounted on reciprocating members actuated by a suitable rotary part of the machine one at least of these stop members being automatically and progressively moved along the reciprocating members from zero to maximum and back during the running of the machine, whereby the two stop members engage and move arms on a direction controlling mechanism to reverse the direction of movement of the ring rail, or of the spindle rail at a predetermined position according to the setting of the mechanism.
The invention is more particularly set forth with reference to the accompanying drawings in which:

The building mechanism shown in the drawings is mounted at one end of the machine, the end plate 6 of which is shown in section in Figs. 2 and 8 butis not shown in Fig. 1: by mounting the mechanism on the end plate of the machine it is in a convenient position for its working and is easily accessible.
The mechanism has two parallel rods J above and 8 below both slidably mounted in two brackets 9 and I0 (9 not being shown in Fig. 2) which are secured to the end plate 6 by nuts and bolts] I. The rods 1 and 8 are mounted to slide parallel with the end frame plate 6 and are secured at the ends by bridge pieces 12 secured by bolts l3.
The bottom rod 8 has a toothedrack .14 on its under face engaged by a pinion IS on a short shaft l6 at the other end of which is a sprocket wheel I! driven by a chain It from a sprocket, not shown in the drawings, on the liftershaft on the machine, which shaft, constantly. changing its direction of rotation, in a mannerdescribed later herein, reciprocates the two rods 1 and 8.
Mounted on the rods 1 and 8 is a member 19 having an upwardly extending arm 20 secured to it at the top and having between therods, a transverse extension 2| bored to form a bearing for a short shaft 22 having on its back end a ratchet Wheel 23 in front of which is acam plate 24 with a cam groove in its front face, While at the front end of the short shaft 22 is a toothed shock wheel 25, having above it a spring pressed pawl 26 which holds the wheel steady but can be over ridden when. the wheel is turned.
The upward extending arm 2!! which rises above the top edge of the cam plate 24 has mounted in it at the top two compound swinging arms 21 shown separately in Figs. 3 and 4.
These arms are not of the same length, nor are they aligned, the longer arm 28 has a ,slot 29 and the shorter arm 3ll angularly disposed to the arm 28 as shown in Fig. 4 has an opening 3| in which a short stud is mounted carrying a roller 32 running in the cam groove '33 of the cam plate 24, the cam groove 33 being a heart shaped cam giving a straight line motion.
Mounted in the slot 29 of the other arm is a slider having on it a roller 34, the slider being adjustable at any position in the slot andheld by the nut 35, and the roller is in a vertical slot 36 in a bridge member 31. On the bottom end of the slidable bridge member 31 is .an adjustably mounted stop 38 and opposite but not in line is a similar stop 39 on a bridge member 40 slidable on the rods 1 and B when it is desired to move it, but normally held in a fixed position by a grub screw 41.
On the brackets 9 and Hi and at the back near the plate 6 is a bar 42 having slots 43 near its ends so that it can be adjusted to and 'froas required and can be held by screwing down the screws 44 whose shanks pass through the slots 3 43. This bar 43 has on it a spring pressed pawl 45 which is in line with the ratchet wheel 23: the pawl 45 can be adjusted up and down by altering the nut 46 on its top end.
The two adjustable stops 38. and 39 project downwardly as shown and while they "area on the same level they are not opposite but are side by side. engage a separate lever 50 below when it--the' pawlis moving in one direction buti'n'ot to? operate it when moving in the other direction.
These levers serve, when operated, to reverse the direction of rotation of..the lifter.'shaft; and" the particular mechanism by which this is done is not part of the invention so long as the stop 38 when moving in one direction moves *over a' lever which reverses the direction ofrotation;

A yarn package building mechanism for textile machinery comprising supports on the machine, two parallel rods one above the other connected at their ends, a toothed rack on the underside of the lower rod engaged and said rods being reciprocated by a reversible pinion, two brackets on said rods, stops on said brackets each for engaging when moving in one direction only a lever for reversing direction of rotation of said reversible pinion, a member carried on said rods between said brackets, an upwardly extending arm on said member, a compound swing arm on said upwardly extending arm, a roller on one of said arms of said compound arms, a slot in the other arm, having an adjustable roller in it, a groove spring pawl on said adjustable bar in line with said ratchet wheel, and according to its adjustment notching on said ratchet wheel one or more teeth at each movement in one direction of said rods whereby said ratchet wheel and cam are turned in intermittent movements, said compound arm being accordingly moved on said rods whereby the position at which said stop on said bracket is progressively varied and as a, result the reversal of rotation of the machine is effected progressively.
