The subject matter of this invention is an improved and serviceable eyelash curler wherein a pad carrying movable jaw, comprising complementary components or members, is adapted to be conveniently shifted against a stationary `jaw for appropriately curling or crimping eyelashes. One object of the invention is realized in providing a novel movable jaw wherein the pair of companion components or complements thereof have cooperating depending aprons, one of which is adapted to be adjusted or regulatedl towards or away from the depending 'apron oi the other component of the pair by coupling means carried by the movable jaw to allow upper arcuate portions of the pair of components to removably clamp the resilient pad. Another object resides in arranging the movable jaw below the fixed jaw of the curler whereby actuating means movably carried by the frame may be effectively operated to simultaneously shift the depending and coupled aprons in unison towards or away from the xed jaw. Specically another object is to employ complementary means in the. form of an externally threaded stud and an internally threaded control wheel to disengageably couple the depending aprons of the movable jawl to permit either separation of the componentsl for opening, of the movable jaw or to permit bringing together these components for adequately closing the movable jaw to grip the resilient pad. Other objects and functional and structural features of the invention will be apparent from the following detailed description taken with the accompanying drawings wherein:

Illustrative of the embodiments disclosed the eyelash curler is generally denoted EI and comprises a frame F, a lever L, a stationary and arcuate jaw or brace J, and a movable jaw MJ.
Specifically, the. frame F embodies the spaced sides in the form of posts or track means l0, the inclined limbs Il from which depend the `iuxtapositioned legs I2 defining the loop I3. The upper arcuate brace J is appropriately fixed or anchored to the attened portions lli of the posts l0.
Pivotally sustained by a fixed fulcrum pin or rivet I5 carried by spaced flattened portions It of the legs l2 and straddled thereby are the flattened and inclined terminals l1 of the lever L which comprises the juxtapositioned legs I8 terminating into the manipulating loop I9. The inclined terminals I1 may be considered as crank portions for bodily actuating the movable jaw MJ towards or away from the stationary jaw J as more. particularly hereinafter set forth.
The movable jaw comprises. a pair of complementary members or sections, to wit, the anterior pad sustaining complement PS and the posterior pad retaining complement PR.
The pad sustaining complement PS is a one piece member having the upstanding arcuate brace or guard 2li substantially normal to and merging with the arcuate shoulder or flange 2| having the laterally extending perforated .ears or bearings 22 constituting means guarding slidable displacement of the movable jaw MJ relative to the tracks or sides lo of frame F. Integral with butr depending from. the Vshoulder 2i is the tapered and offset and rearwardly extendin 1 apron 23 having a perforated ear or lug` 24 bent at a substantially right angle or normal thereto. The perforated ears or bearings 22 are slidably guided on the spaced posts or track means i of the frame F which may be of a suitable wire.
As previously stated the posterior pad retaining complement PR is also a part of the movable jaw MJ and in fact may be said to be 'com- ;plementary thereto and likewise is a one piece `member characterized byV an arcuate rear or posterior brace 25 having a depending, tapered and oiset apron 26 provided with a perforated ,lug or ear 21 bent at a right angle thereto.

It follows that the pad R is `unclamped and may .quickly and conveniently be removed from its arcuate seat or flange 2| and another pad may `readily be substituted and thereafter .appropriately clamped by adjustably closing the pad retainer or door PR.
In completely removing wheel 32 from theV stud 30, the pivoted or rotatable pad retaining member PR may be rotatably swung on the `fulcrum pin or rivet 29 and rearwardly away `from the pad support or pad sustaining member PS V(Figs. 7 and 12). full access is had to the arcuate seat or flange s 2l. tioned thereon after which the movable jaw MJ is closed .by swinging thepad retainer PR forwardly and thereafter again the pad is tightened Hence complete and If desired, a new pad R may now be posior clamped upon the manipulation of the knurled wheel 32.
WithY the pad R clamped by the complementary sections or pad supportand pad retainer PS and PR (Figs. 1 and 8), the movable -jaw MJ is bodily actuated upon manipulating the hinged lever or actuating ymeans L. By such action, the fulcrum means 29 hingedly displaces the juxtapositioned lugs or ears 24 and 21, thus causing the juxtapositioned aprons 23 and 25 now locked or coupled together by the stud 3u and wheel 32 to move in unison.A It follows that the upper part of the .movable jaw MJ is rectilinearly or slidably displaced towards the xed bar or jaw J. If therefore the lashes are interposed between the jaws they will be crimped by the resilient pad R pressing against the xed bar or jaw J as indicated in Fig. 9. For purposes of specification the legs i2 and loop I3 of the frame may be considered as a handle and the lever L as operating means to displace or actuatev the movable jaw MJ relative to the fixed jaw 01 arcuate brace J.
In the form according to Figs. 13 and 14 the posterior pad retaining member or pad retainer PR of the movable jaw is provided with the laterally extending bearings 22 slidably guided on' the posts or tracks I l) of the wire frame F and fixedly carries the threaded shank 30 for'receiving and interlocking with the pad sustaining member or pad support PS which has its oiset or bent perforated ear 24 rotatably retained on lthe fixed yfulcrum pin 29. A Thus the anterior pad sustaining member PS1` may be pivotally shifted or rotatably adjusted towards or away from the posterior pad .retainer PR which is slidably guided by the spaced posts or track means It. In other' aspects the form according to Figs. 13 and 14is along the lines of the embodiment shown in Figs. 1-12.
In all of the embodiments disclosed, however, the upper part of the movable jaw MJ is slidably connected or guided by the frame F while the lower part thereof is pivotally or hingedly cond nected directly to the manipulating means or lever L and more particularly to the crank portions |1 of the latter. In al1 of the embodiments the anterior and posterior complements of the movable jaw are locked or coupled together to removably clamp the resilient pad R and to move in unison towards or away fromv the fixed jaw or arcuate brace J when in their clamping relation against the pad. Moreoverby adjusting or tilting one of the complements away from its companion complement of the movable jaw, the pad may be removed or replaced, and if complete access is desired to the Vinterior of the separable complements PS and PR of the movable jaw, the coupling or locking means defined by the stud 30 and wheel 32 may be disconnected or unlocked and thereafter the rotatable complement, to wit, PR in Fig. 7 or PS in Fig. 13 may be appreciably swung away from the other complement as exhibited in Figs. '7 and 14. The pad retaining member or complement PR in Figs. 12 or 13 in fact is ar door for closing or opening the pad sustaining member or-complement PS. However in all of the embodiments disclosed. the movable jaw MJ is slidably guided by the frame and hingedly connected to the crank portions of the pivoted lever or driving means L.
In all of the embodiments the bar or brace which constitutes the fixed jaw J cooperates 'with the clamped pad R tocrimp the lashes. The
pad R may be said to be removably disposed in an arcuate channel defined by the braces 2! and 25 of the pad support PS and the retainer PR and when these complementary members or components are desirably clamping the-pad they may asesino* be considered as. closed; When the adiustabie coupling means or connection dened by ele ments 3l! and 32 is utilized to removev the claim?-l ing relation, the movable jaw opens. The connectiozr defined by the fulcrum pin 23 with the earz 2.1y in the embodiment illustrated in Fig. 12 and with the cartsv of. the form according tao-Fig.. 13 may' be deemed rotatable or swiveled. and the spaced ends 28 of the crank l1 in iactare. guide means therefor as they straddle thejfuxtapositioned and companion. ears 24 andi?. In the re maval of the clamping relation on the rubber pad It.. the complementary members are adequately separated from each other or opened to permit convenient removal of the pad although as; previously pointed out one of. the complementary members of the movable jaw MJ mayA be fully swung apart from its companion complement when the internally threaded rotatable nut or wheel 32 is removed, disengaged or uncoupledfrom the fixed threaded stu-d or post 30. The latter together with wheel 32' may be said to be complementary and disconnectable locking means tohold the depending aprons 23 and lliv together or in closel juxtaposition at which time the movable jaw is closed, that is, clamping the resilient pad R. If Wheel 32 is thereafter manipulated or unloosened but not disengaged from stud 3H',y this wheel limits the separation of the rotatable complement from the companion slid-l able complement of the movable jaw. For example, in Fig. 10, the wheel 32 is unloosened, thus serving as a stop and cooperating with the padsustaining complement or member PS to limit the separation of the rotatable or hinged. corn-- ponent or member PR therefrom On tightening wheel or knob 32., the distance between the pad retaining member PR and pad sustaining mem- 6 I claim:

Thus the connection definedv by stud 3i) and wheel 32 may be said to be complementary and disconnectable regulating means for adjustably varying or controlling the distance between the complementary clamping members PS and PR uniformly throughout substantially the length of the seat 21. Broadly speaking, in all of the embodiments the swingable or rotatable complementary member such as PR in Fig. 12 or PS in Fig. 13 although each hinged to the fulcrum means or pivot pin 29 may be pivotally shifted towards or away from its respective slidably guided complementary member as PS in Fig-12 or PR in Fig. 13 for closing or opening oi the movable jaw which embodies the integrally depending aprons such as. 23 and 26, andv of course the disconnectable coupling means 30 and 32 in all the forms disclosed in fact characterizes regulating means for controlling the distance between the pad retainer PR and the pad support PS.

In an eyelash curler, a frame having spaced track means, an arcuate brace fixed to said track means, a resilient pad, an arcuate jaw interposed between said track means and comprising a. pad support having an apron including an opening' and a pad retainer having an apron, said support having means slidably guided on said track means, threaded means extending from said retainerand projecting into said opening, adjustable means mounted onsaid threaded means vfor displacing said retainer relative to said support to removably clamp said pad, actuator means movably carried by said curler, and means mov ably connecting said aprons to said actuator means.

In an eyelash curler, a frame having spaced track means, an arcuate brace fixed to said track means, a resilient pad, an arcuate ljaw interposed between said track means and comprisingv a pad support having an apron including an opening and a pad retainer having an apron including xed threaded means movably disposed insaid opening, said support having means slidably guided on said track means, actuator meansmovably carried by said curler and having means hingedly connected to the aprons of said retainer and said support,` and rotatable means mounted on said threaded means for adjustably shifting said retainer relative to said support for ably clamping said pad.

In an eyelash curler, a frame having spaced track means, an arcuate brace fixed to said track means, a resilient pad, an arcuate jaw interposed between said track means and comprisingv a pad support having 'a depending apron including a lug substantially normal thereto and a pad retainer having a depending apron including a lug substantially normal thereto, said support having means slidably mounted on said track means, actuator means movably carried by said curler and including means hingedly sustaining the lug of the apron of said support and rotatably sustaining the lug of the apron of said retainer, and means for coupling said aprons for rotatably displacing said retainer relativeV to said support to removably clamp said pad and to provide for bodily displacement of said retainer and 'support towards or away from said brace in their clamping relation against said pad.
10. In an eyelash curler, a frame having spaced track means, an arcuate brace xed to said track-means, a resilient pad, an arcuate jaw interposed between said track means and cornprising a one piece padrsupp'ort having a depending apron including a lug substantially normal thereto and a one piece pad retainer having a depending apron including a lug substantially normal thereto, said retainer having means slidably mounted on said track means, actuator means movably carried by said curler andinfor said pad and an arcuate retainer for. said pad, saidV support having a depending apron, said retainer having a depending apron, said jaw having means slidably guided by said sides,` adjustable means for coupling said aprons together and for controlling the displacement of one of said members relative to the other member of said pair for removably clamping said pad, and actuator means movably carried by said frame for bodily displacing said aprons for shifting said jaw 'towards or away from said brace.
12. In an eyelash curler, a frame having spaced sides, an arcuate brace iixed to said sides, a resilient pad, an arcuate jaw interposed between said sides and comprising a pairof complementary members defining an arcuate support for said pad and an arcuate retainer for said pad, said support having a depending apron, said retainer having a depending apron, said jaw having means slidably guided by said sides, adjustable means for coupling said aprons together and for varying the displacement of Vone of said members relative to the other member of said pair for removably clamping said pad, actuator means having crank means, means hingedly sustaining said actuator means to said frame, and means hingedly connecting said aprons to said crank means.

In an eyelash curler, a frame having spaced sides, an arcuate brace fixed to said sides, a resilient pad, an arcuate jaw interposed between said sides and comprising a pair of complementary members defining an arcuate support for said pad and an arcuate retainer for said pad, said vsupport having a depending apron, said retainer having a depending apron, said jaw having means slidably guided on said sides, adjustable means for coupling said aprons together and for variably controlling the displacement of one of said members relative to the other member of said sides and comprising a pair of complementary members deiining an arcuate support for said pad and an arcuate retainer for said i pad, said support having a depending apron including a lower terminal portion, said retainer having a dependingapron including a lower ter,- minal portion, said support having means slidably guided by said sides, adjustable means for coupling said aprons together and for variably controlling the displacement of one of said members relative to the other member of said pair for removably clamping said pad, fulcrum means carried by said frame, and actuator means hingedly sustained by said fulcrum means and having crank means including means for hingedly sustaining the terminal portion of the apron of said support and for rotatably sustaining the terminal portion of the apron of said retainer.
15. In an eyelash curler, a frame having spaced sides. an arcuate brace Iixed to said sides, a resilient pad, an arcuate jaw interposed between said sides and comprising a pair of complementary members dening an arcuate support for said pad andan arcuate retainer for said pad, said support having a depending apron including a lower terminal portion, said retainer having a depending apron including a lower terminal portion, said retainer having means slidably guided by said sides, adjustable means for coupling said aprons together and for variably controlling the displacement of one of said members relative to the other member of said pair for removably clamping said pad, fulcrum means carried by said frame, actuator means hingedly sustained by said fulcrum means and having crank means, and means carried by said crank means for hingedly sustaining the terminal portion of the apron of said retainer and for rotatably sustaining the terminal portion of the apron of said support.
16. An eyelash curler adapted to utilize a rubber pad, comprising; a frame, an arcuate brace secured to said frame, an actuator movably carried by said frame, a jaw disposed below said brace and comprising a pair of cooperating components, one of said components defining a pad supporting member and the other component of said pair defining a pad retaining member,A
means hingedly connecting said pad supporting member to said actuator, means rotatably connecting said pad retaining member to said actuator, means for slidably guiding said pad supporting member relative to said frame, a threaded stud carried by one of said components and projectable through the other component of said pair, and internally threaded rotatable means surrounding said stud for swinging said pad retaining member towards said pad supporting member to removably clamp said pad.
17. The curler according to claim 16 wherein the retaining member carries an externally threaded stud.
18. The curler according to claim 17 wherein the supporting member is provided with an accessible relief opening for receiving the threaded stud.
19. In an eyelash curler, a frame having spaced track means, an arcuate brace fixed to said track means, a resilient pad, an arcuate jaw interposed between said track means and comprising a pair of complementary members defining a support for said pad and a retainer for said pad, said jaw having means slidably guided by said track means to facilitate displacement thereof towards or away from said brace; threaded complementary and disengageable coupling elements for adjusting said retainer relative to said support, and actuator means movably carried by said frame for operating said jaw.

In an eyelash curler, a resilient pad, a frame having spaced track means, an arcuate brace fixed to said track means, a jaw, means carried -by said jaw and slidably guided on said track means, said jaw comprising complementary members dening a support for said pad and a retainer for said pad, a connection medially of said members for controlling displacement of said retainer towards said support for removably clamping said pad, and actuator means movably carried by said frame and disposed below said track means for operating said jaw, said connection comprising an externally threaded stud carried by one of said members and an internally threaded wheel mounted on said stud.
21. In an eyelash curler, a resilient pad, a frame having an arcuate fixed brace, a jaw for supporting and retaining said pad and disposed below said brace and having means movably guided relative to said frame and embodying a pair of components having arcuate portions at the upper parts thereof for removably embracing said pad and including separable depending aprons, means carried by said jaw and coupling said depending aprons for adjustably displacing the apron of one of said components relative to the apronof the other component of said pair to allow said upper portions to removably clamp said pad, and actuator means movably carried by said frame for driving said aprons in unison to move said jaw towards or away from said brace. In an eyelash curler, a resilient pad, a frame having an arcuate xed brace, a jaw for supporting and retaining said pad and disposed below said brace and having means movably guided relative to said frame and embodying a pair of components having spaced arcuate p0rtions at the upper parts thereof for removably embracing said pad and including separable depending aprons, complementary threaded means carried by said jaw for adjustably displacing the depending means of one of said components relative to the apron of the other component of said pair to allow said upper portions to removably clamp said pad, and actuator means movably carried by said frame for driving said aprons to move said jaw towards or away from said brace.
