(01. .zza-ssi 1 Claim. 1'
The object of this invention is to make a, box that is-folded out of" a one piece blank, which blank is provided with one or more extensions, which extend in the box when folded and will serve as a locking device or as locking devices.
Another object of the invention is to make the box so that the extension that serves as a looking device will be inserted between one edge of an end of the box and along the side of an adjacent side of the box.
These and other objects of the invention will be illustrated in the drawings, described in the specification and pointed out in the claim at the end thereof.
In the drawings:
Fig. 1 is a plan view of the inside surface of the blank from which the box is formed.
Fig. 2 is a plan view of the inside of the box partially folded up or erected from the blank shown in Fig. 1 with the small end sections of the blank glued in four places to two of the long sections of the blank.
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the lower end of Fig. 2.
Fig. 4 is a perspective view of one end of the box with the top partially folded over on the body of the box with the locking tab shown extended.
Fig. 5 is a perspective view of one end of the box with the top fully folded over and the locku ing tab concealed in looking position.
Fig. 6 is a sectional view of the box, the section being taken on the line 6:0, 69: of Fig. 5, the box being shown partly brokenaway in the middle and the locking tabs being shown in locking position.
It will be understood that Figs. 4, 5 and 6 show the box or the parts thereof somewhat en larged over the showing made in Figs. 1, 2 and 3.
In the drawings, like reference numerals indicate like parts. In Figure 1 of the drawings, reference numeral I indicates the front of the box. 2 indicates the bottom of the box. 3 indicates the back of the box. Pindicates the top of the cover of the box and 5 indicates the front The several parts, I, 2, 3, 4 and 5, above-re: ferred to are connected in the, blank by the scored-lines I, 8,- 9 and Ill Connected ateaoh end of-thebottom-2 ofthe box are the end sections l I and I2 of the body of the box. These sections II and 12 are connected to the bottom of the box by the scored lines l3 and I4. Connected to these end sections II and I2 are the corner tabs l5 and I6 which are connected to the sections H and I! on the scored lines I! and [8. The tabs 15 and IB are made separate from the front I of the box by being cut on the lines I9 and 20. On the right hand side of Fig. 1 are provided the end sections 2| and 22 of the cover which are connected to the top of the cover 4 on the scored lines 23 and 24. To these end sections of the cover are connected the corner tabs 25 and 26 on the scored lines 21 and 28.
These corner tabs are out free from the front 5 of the cover on the lines 29 and 30. The corner tabs l5 and 25 are cut away as indicated at 3| and 32 to conform to the upper corner of the front I of the box and the upper corner'of the window 6.
On the end sections 2| and 22 I provide the locking devices 33 and 34. These are connected to their respective sections on the scored lines 35 and 35 shown between them.
In Fig. 2 I have shown the corner tabs I5 and I5 glued to the inside front I of the box and I have shown the corner tabs 25 and 26 glued to the inside of the front 5 of the cover of the box.
As stated above, Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the lower end of Fig. 2 showing the parts of the box ready to be moved to the position shown in Fig. l in which the cover of the box is partially folded over the body of the box. In this Fig. 4, the locking device 34 is shown ready to be inserted between the edge of the end section l2 and the back of the box 3 where it will be held by friction. At the other end of the box, the locking device 33 will be in position to be inserted between the edge of the end section II and the back 3 of the box where it will also be held by friction. These locking devices will not be glued for that would prevent the opening of the box.
When the locking device is in looking position as shown in Fig. 5, it is concealed inside of the box and the end section 22 would be in the position shown in Fig. 5. The locking devices 33 and 34 will be in the position shown in full lines on the inside of the box in Fig. 6.
3 I claim: A folding display box formed wholly from a single blank comprising an elongated rectangular bottom, a first and second side wall connected to the bottom, a cover connected with the second side wall, an inspection aperture in said cover, a third side wall connected to and adapted to extend down from the cover in overlapping relation to the first side wall, end sec tions of substantially square configuration connected to the bottom of the box, corner flaps connected to the end sections at one side thereof only and secured to the first side wall, the ends of said second side wall terminating in a free edge, end sections connected to the cover of the box of substantially square configuration, said last-named end sections having corner flaps connected to one side thereof and secured to the third side wall and having friction locking tabs connected to the other side of said last-named end sections, said tabs extending toward the first-named end sections, and being adjacent the end of the last-named end sections and terminating short of the connection of the lastnamed end sections with the cover, said parts when erected into a closed box having an opening between the edge of the end sections attached to the bottom of the box and the adjacent second side wall of the box into which opening the frictionally locking tabs can engage for the purpose of locking the cover of the box closed on the box.
