2 Claims. 13257) This invention relates to especially to a comb-like unit attachable to the front-lower-inner-part of a hat in eifective position to engage with the frontal hair of the wearer of the hat, for preventing the hat from being blown oif the head of the wearer.

One object of the invention is to provide very simple, convenient and thoroughly effective means to secure said unit to the main body of the hat or to the sweat-band thereof in the effective hair-engaging position while the securing means is out of the way from detrimental contact with the users forehead.

Another object is to secure said unit against a lower-inner-front part of the hat, while it keeps the hat from blowing rearward while enabling the hat-wearer to easily remove the hat by tilting it downward and forward so as to disengage the teeth from the frontal hair without materially disarranging the hair.

Other objects and important features are pointed out or implied in the following details of description, in connection with the accompanying drawings in which:

Fig. 1 is a front elevation of the invention secured to the lower-inner-front portion of the hat of which only a sectional fragmental front portion is shown, part of the crown and rim be ing broken away.

Fig. 2 is a rear elevation of the hat-anchoring unit detached from the hat and from the securing strip which is seen in Figs. 1 and 4.

Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional view taken along the line 33 of Fig. 1.

Fig. 4 is a view showing the securing means in the form of a bendable metal strip of inverted U-shape, as before being engaged with the groove and openings of the comb-like device of Figs. 1, 2 and 3.

Referring to these drawings in detail, in which, similar reference numerals refer to similar parts throughout the several views, the invention is described in detail as follows:

In broad terms, the invention is a comb-like unit comprising spaced teeth 5 to engage with the frontal hair of the user, and a base-plate 6 with which one end of each tooth is united, said base-plate having therein a groove 1 that extends at right angles to the length of said teeth and terminates at openings 8 which extend through said base-plate 6, said groove and openings being adapted to receive therein and therethrough an appropriate means 9 for attaching the hat-anchor to the inner side of the hat ID in a proper position for said teeth to engage with said frontal hair, so as to anchor said hat against being blown from the head of the user.

More specifically, the invention is a combinaa hat-anchor, and

inner side tion with said hat it and with said securing means which is here shown as an attaching strip 9 having its middle portion normally seated in said groove 1 while portions thereof extend through said openings 8 and through adjacent portion of said hat 10, said strip 9 having endportions I I bent in opposite directions and in proper positions to secure said units against the inner surface I2 of the hat and with said teeth projecting upward.

Said end-portions of the attaching strip are engaged with the front-lower portion of said hat. so as to secure said unit against said inner side of said front-lower portion of the hat.

We do not intend to limit our patent protection to the precise details of construction and arrangement shown and described in the foregoing and in the drawings, for the invention is susceptible of numerous changes within the scope of the inventive idea as implied and claimed.

We claim the following a our invention:

1. In a hat-anchor, a comb-like unit comprising spaced teeth to engage with the frontal hair of a user, and a base-plate with which one end of each tooth is united, said base-plate having therein a groove that extends at right angles to the length of said teeth and in open communication with openings which extend through said base-plate, said groove and openings being adapted to receive therein and therethrough an appropriate means for attaching the hat-anchor to the of a hat in a proper position for said teeth to engage with said frontal hair for anchoring said hat against being blown from the head of the user.

2. The unit defined in claim 1, in combination with a thin bendable metal attaching strip having its middle portion normally seated in said groove while portions thereof are adapted to extend through said openings and through adjacent portions of said hat and to be bent in opposite directions and in proper positions to secure said unit against the inner surface of the hat and with said teeth projecting upward.
