(Granted under the act of March 3, 1883, as amended April 30, 1928; 370 0. G. 757) This invention relates toa device for supporting and dispensing rolled material such as paper, cloth, and the like,

One of the objects of this invention is toprovide a device that can be mounted ina suitable position in any convenient place and secured by means of screws, bolts, or in any other suitable manner, so that aroll of material of suitable length and diameter may be placed thereon and unrolled in such manner that any portion thereof may be readily detached when desired.

Another object of this invention is to provide a device for supporting a roll of material and means integral with said device for restricting the rotationof the roll of material placed thereon when unrolling of the material is no longer desired.

A further object of this invention is to provide a device, which is simple in design so as to be easily and cheaply produced, for the mounting and support of rolled material so that the material may be easily and conveniently dispensed.

Another object of this invention is to provide a device on which rolled or coiled material may be easily and quickly installed and retained without danger of slipping therefrom and from which it can be unrolled without being hampered by the supporting and holding mechanism.

Another object of this invention is to produce a rolled material dispenser upon which material may be installed easily and quickly and retained in operable position by a simple member of the main support so that the rolled material is securely held from rolling or sliding from its supportin member.

A still further object of this invention is to provide a rolled or coiled material dispenser riveted or welded together so that its parts may not readily become loose, lost, or tampered with, as may occur if they were bolted or screwed together.

These and other objects of this invention and the various features and details of its construction. operation, and use thereof, are hereinafter more fully set forth and described with reference to the accompanying drawing in which:

Paper, tracing cloth, tape, cord, wire, wire netting, and other material, are often manufactured and packaged for shipment with hollow cores or on spools suitable for mounting on a dispensing device. In most cases these dispensing devices should be strong, simple in design, and inexpensive of construction, Whereas on the contrary many such present devices have complicated 'mechanism which frequently gets out of order.

The device herein described is simple and inexpensive to manufacture and includes no complicated parts that may get out of order or be easily broken.

Referring to the drawing, a flange I supports an integral circular U-shaped supporting bar 2, so formed and of sufficient length to support a hollow roll of material 4 which may be placed thereon in a position to revolve substantially about its center line as an axis. Flange l is provided with holes 3 for securing same to any suitable support such as a wall, or the like.

A toggle bar 5 is provided to rotate approximately 180 degrees on pin 6, that is, about degrees in either direction from the axis of the supporting member and, in the normal position shown in the drawing, serves to retain the roll of material in place on bar 2.

When toggle bar 5 is rotated about pin 6 so that its center line coincides with the center line of support bar 2, the flattened end I of the toggle bar will enter slot 8, the cylindrical end will then assume the position shown by dotted lines at 9. A roll of suitable material 4 may then be installed on or removed from supporting bar 2 through hole It which runs longitudinally through roll 4. The roll 4 when placed on bar 2 may be securel held in rotatable position and toggle bar 5 may be rotated about pin 6 into a position as shown in the drawing in full lines to form a retaining T with bar 2.

It will be seen in the drawing that one end of the toggle bar 5 is so constructed that it will be heavier than the opposite end. It is intended that the heavy end will be inclined downward due to the force of gravity when the dispenser is installed on a vertical Wall or surface with the supporting bar 2 in horizontal position, and this will tend to keep the toggle bar 5 naturally and normally with its axis at right angles to the axis of the supporting bar 2 and thus prevent accidental dislodgment of the roll of material supported on bar 2.

When material from a roll is dispensed by rotating the roll it often happens that unless some restraining medium is used the roll will overrun and cause more material to be dispensed than is desired. tegral with said base and extending outwardly thereof, said bar having spaced transversepasr sages extending therethrough and said bar being adapted to support a roll of dispensable material thereon, atoggle bar centrally pivotally mounted on said supporting bar adjacent the free end thereof for supporting "the roll against dislodgment from said supporting bar, said :toggleg-bar being rotatable substantially 90degrees in either direction from a position in alignment withsaid supporting bar, and brake means resiliently mountedon said supporting 'bar intermediate the ends thereof .for :frictionally engaging the inner surface of the roll to restrict the free rotation thereof said brake means comprising a concavoconvex shoe which has a concave surface of a radius of curvature similar to the radius of curvature of said bar, said shoe being mounted parallel to and wholly exteriorly of saidbar, spaced supporting means connected to said shoe and slidably extending into said passages, springs concentric with said supporting means and normally urging said shoe wholly laterally away from said bar."
