U ITED STATES PATENT OF ICE.
, WALTER HART,'OF NEW YORK, NY.
FLAG-STAFF HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 259,142, dated June 6, 1882.
- Application filed March 25, 1882. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WALTER HART, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city tit New York, State of New York, have invented certain Improvements in Flag-Pole Holders, of which-the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is to so construct a flag-pole holder that effective groupings of the flags can be made and the angle or position of the pole or poles varied as circumstances may suggest. p
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a rear View of my improved flag-pole holder; Fig. 2, a sectional view of part of the same, and Fig. 3 a view of a {modified form of holder.
A is a plate adapted to be secured to a window-sill or other support, and having a central lug or enlargement, a, in which is formed an opening for the reception of the shank b of an arm, B, the latter being bent upward, and
having at the outer end a circular projection, d, the face of which is recessed for the reception of lugs on a projection, f, of the pole-holdin g frame D, a thumb-screw, g, passing through an opening in the projection 01, and being adapted to a threaded opening in the projection f, so that upon loosening said screw the lugs and recesses of the projections can be freed from engagement and the frame D can be adjusted to any desired angle in respect to the arm B, the tightening of the screw 9 serving to secure said frame in the position to which it has been adjusted.
The frame D (shown in Figs. 1 and 2) is constructed for the reception of a number of flagpoles, and comprises a segmental plate, h, a segmental bar, 'i, and connecting-bars p, the plate h having sockets m for the inner ends of respect to the arm B permits the disposal of the grouped flags in any way which the surroundings may suggest as the most appropriate. The shank b of the arm B is cruciform in cross-section, having four ribs, to, and the opening in the lug a conforms to the shape of-the shank b, so that an extended bearing is presentedand the shank is prevented from turning in the opening. Longitudinal withdrawal of the shank b from the openingin the plate is prevented by a set-screw, t. This feature of the invention is susceptible of use in connection with holders for single poles such as shown in Fig. 3, as well as with the group holder shown in Figs. 1 and 2.
I claim as my invention 1. The combination of the plate A, having a lug, a, the arm B, having a shank adapted to an opening in the lug, and a projection, d, with recessed face, the pole-holdin g frame D having a projection, f, with lugs, as described, and the confining-screw g, as set forth.
2. The pole-holdin g frame D,com prising the segmental plate h, with projection f and radial sockets m, the segmental bar '5 with radial tubes n, and the connecting-bars p at the ends of the bar '1; and plate h, as set forth.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
' WALTER HART.
