Application August 8, 1949, Serial .No. 109,139
been selected for illustration in the drawings accompanying and forming a part of the present specification are outlined in full. In said drawings, two forms of the invention are shown, but it is to be understood that it is not limited to such forms, since the invention as setforth in the claims may be embodied in a plurality of forms.
Referring to the drawings:
Fig. 1 is a side elevation of a clip or clip board embodying the objects of my invention;
Fig. 2 is a rear end elevation of the clip or clip board illustrated in Fig. l; 1
Fig. 3 is a top plan view of the clip or clip board illustrated in Fig. 1;
Fig. 4 is a side elevation of a modification of the clip illustrated in Figs. 1, 2 and 3;
Fig. 5 is an isometric projection of the clip illustrated in Fig. 4.
The clip and/or clip board illustrated in Figs.
l, 2 and 3 comprises a metal board or plate I of generally rectangular form. Struck from the plate I adjacent its rear or upper end are a pair 5 Claims; worst-so) upper face of the plate I. In addition to this, the springs 8 serve as fulcrum points for the clip.
By cutting down the length of the plate so that it is substantially equal to that of the clip 3, the resulting structure is merely a paper clip.
' In the modification shown in Figs. 4 and 5, two identical clips or jaws II are resorted to, each having rearwardly diverging actuating levers I2, and forwardly diverging intermediate portions I3. Cut and pressed inwardly from the portions I3 are eyes I4 and secured to these eyes are coil springs I5, the ends of these springs being in abutment with the intermediate portions I3. As
' in the case of the modification illustrated in Figs. 1, 2 and 3, the springs I5 are distorted to form a forwardly etxending arch whereby the jaw edges I6 of the resulting clip areurged into clamping position. Here again the springs serve as ,fulcrdm points for the other two members as well as serving to urge the jaws into their clamping positions.
I claim:
1. A clip comprising: first and second superposed plates having forwardly diverging intermediate portions and forwardly converging forward portions; and coil springs disposed between said first and second plates and secured thereto with their ends in abutment with said forwardly diverging intermediate portions.
2. A clip comprising: two superposed plates having forward meeting edges and spaced, for- "wardly diverging intermediate portions; and coil springs secured between and to said intermediate portions with their ends in abutment with said of laterally spaced, upwardly extending eyes 2.
Overlying the upper or rear end of the plate I is a clip generally designated by the reference nu meral 3 and provided with a rearwardly inclined posed between the plate I and the intermediate.
clip portion 5 are coil springs 8, the ends 9 of the terminal convolutions or coils of each spring being threaded through the eyes 2 and 1 whereby the ends of the springs are held in abutment with the plate I and the intermediate clip portion 5. Since the clip portion 5 is forwardly inclined with portions, said springs being held in arcuate form. '3. A clip comprising, a pair of superposed plates, having meeting portions for gripping paper, said plates having other portions disposed arig'iilarly with respect to one another, with the planes containing said other portions forming an angle facing generally toward the meeting portions of the plates, coil springs disposed. between the plates, and means for fastening the ends of the coil springs to the angularly disposed portions in-zabutting relationship, to thereby force the coil springs to assume arcuate shapes with the convex sides of the springs facing generally toward the meeting edges of the plates. 7 4.',A clip comprising, a plate, a clip member ov'erfl'ying one end of said plate, said clip member including a forward edge converging on and entorted into arcuate form and resiliently hold the] forward edge of the clip in engagement with the gaging said plate and a portion diverging forwardly with respect to said plate, coil springs disposed between said plate and the forwardly v diverging portion of the clip member, and means for securing the ends of the springs to said forwardly diverging portion and to said plate in abutting relationship to each to thereby force the springs to assume an arcuate form with the convex sides of the springs facing forwardly.
5. A clip comprising, a plate, a clip member overlying one end of said plate, said clip member including a forward edge converging'on and engaging said plate and a portion diverging forwardly with respect to said plate, coil springs disposed between said plate and the forwardly diverging portion of the clip member, and means for securing the ends of the springs to said forwardly diverging portion and to said plate in abutting relationship to each to thereby force the springs to assume an arcuate form with the convex sides of the springs facingforwardly, said securing means comprising eye portions struck from said forwardly diverging portion and from said plate and disposed on the convex sidespf the coil springs and receiving the ends of the coil springs.
