Patented Manll, 1952 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 2,588,995 D DOUBLE SHELF BRACKET Bernard G. Setvate, Milwaukee, Wis.
Application September 17, 1948, Serial No. 49,677
3 Claims. (Cl. 211-90) This invention relates to improvements in double shelf brackets, and more particularly to a novel double shelf bracket formed of bar metal or other suitable bar material.
An object of the invention is to provide a device of the type which will be stronger than other doubleshelf brackets now in use.
Another object of the invention is to provide a double shelf bracket of bar material utilizing both a vertical and a diagonal brace means.
Other and further objects of the invention will appear as the description proceeds, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, in which:
Fig. l is a view in perspective of a double shelf bracket assembly embodying the invention.
Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view of the bracket and shelves of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a view on line 3-3 of Fig. 2.
Fig. 4 is a view in perspective of a modified form of bracket.
Referring more particularly to the drawing, the numeral l refers to the device generally, having an upper horizontal arm I I, a rear vertical portion I2, a lower horizontal segment [3, a front vertical segment M, a short horizontal segment l5, and the diagonal segment l5 terminating in a short vertical portion H. A lower shelf I8 is secured to the horizontal segment l3 by the screws H]. An upper shelf 20 is secured to the upper horizontal arm II by the screws 2| and 22. The screw 2| also passes through the short horizontal segment 15 just below the outer end of the horizontal arm I I. Screws 23 and 24 pass through the vertical rear portion 1 2 into a wall or other supporting surface 25 to which the bracket I0 is attached. The screw 24 also passes through the short vertical segment 11, thus fixing the diagonal segment I 6.
In Fig. 4 a modified form of the invention is shown in which a single piece of bar metal 29 is bent to form a top horizontal arm 30, a rear vertical portion 3|, a lower horizontal segment 32, a frontal vertical portion 33, a short horizontal upper portion 34 immediately underlying and contacting the frontal end of the horizontal arm 30, and a diagonally downwardly directed segment 35 having a vertically downwardly directed end portion 36 secured by rivet means 38 to the lower portion of the rear vertical portion 3|. Rivet 31 joins the short horizontal upper portion 34 with the front part of arm 30. The portions 33 and 35 are tortionally twisted for added strength.
It will be understood that the device is capable of many modifications in structure and design, without departing from the spirit of the invention, within the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed and desired to be secured by Letters Patent of the United States, is:
1. A double shelf bracket comprising a horizontal upper bar, a vertical rear bar, a horizontal lower bar, a vertical front bar, and an oblique bar connecting the top of said front bar with the lower part of the rear bar, all of the said bars being integral to form an oblong rectangular unitary structure with the oblique bar connecting the interior thereof 2. A shelf assembly comprising a plurality of bar elements, each element being bent spacedly transversely and longitudinally to form an oblong rectangular structure, an inward continua.- tion thereof forming an oblique reinforcing bar, a lower shelf secured within the lower segments of the rectangular structures, and an upper shelf secured to the tops of the upper segments of the rectangular structures.
3. A shelf assembly comprising a plurality of bar elements :bent spacedly transversely and longitudinally to form an oblong rectangular structure, an inward continuation forming an oblique reinforcing bar bent torsionally, a lower shelf secured within the lower segment of the rectangular structure, and an upper shelf secured to the top of the upper segment of the rectangular structure, the frontal segment of said rectangular structure bent torsionally.
