2 Claims.
" 'Ih'is invention relates to householdutensils,
and more particularly to a babyplate or the like adapted to reduce the-possibility of accidental upsetting during the feeding of a baby.
bbl'fifi t of this invention is to provide a baby dish with means employing the differential of atmospheric pressure or suction means for securing the dish to a table in a secure manner while feeding a baby.
Another object of the invention resides in the provision of a baby feeding plate having means thereon for securing a suction cup thereto so that when the dish is pressed .under slight pres sure against a feeding tray or table it will be securely held against dislodgment by the baby.
=1 Still another' object resides in the provision of a baby plate that may be securely mounted on a feeding surface, which baby plate may be readily cast or molded from suitable resilient plastic material.
A further object of the invention resides in the provision of a baby plate having a plurality of partitions equally dividing the plate into a plurality of compartments so that different foods may be readily positioned therein.
Still further objects of the invention reside in the provision of a baby plate that is strong, durable, highly efficient in operation, simple in construction and manufacture, relatively inexpensive, and highly attractive in appearance.
These, together with various ancillary objects of the invention which will become apparent as the following description proceeds, are attained by this baby plate, a preferred embodiment of which has been illustrated in the accompanying drawings, by way of example only, wherein:
Figure l is a perspective view of the baby plate comprising the present invention;
Figure 2 is a vertical sectional view as taken along the diameter of the baby feeding plate; and,
Figure 3 is an exploded view showing the two main portions of the baby plate in greatest detail, the structure thereof being shown in a reduced scale.
With continuing reference to the accompanyany convenient thermosetting resin or the like. The container portion I2 includes a base plate [6 having side walls l8 secured thereto and upwardly extending therefrom. Integrally formed with the side walls I8 is a lip 20 extending annularly around the side walls 18. Connected to or integrally formed with the base plate I6 is a hub 22 which is centrally disposed on the base plate 16. Radially extending from the hub 22 are a plurality of partition walls 24 each of which are integrally "formed with and connected to the base plate Hi, the side walls It; and the hub 22. The hub 22 is axially bored and formed with screw-threads and thus functions as an assemr- 'bling nut'26. 1
The supporting member M comprises a suction cup 28 which applies the difierential and atmospheric pressure to secure the baby plate ID to the feeding surface such as a table or a tray. The suction cup 28 may be formed of rubber or other highly resilient plastic material. Secured to the suction cup 28 and upwardly extending therefrom is a bolt member 3!) having a disk-shaped head 32 embedded within the suction cup 23. It is quite important that the diskshaped head 32 be of a diameter to extend beyond the hub 22 in order that a substantially rigid and secure connection between the suction cup 28 and the base plate i6 be obtained. Because of the diameter of the disk 32 and the diameter of the fiat circular surface of the suction cup 28 the latter is rigidly secured to the bottom surface of the base plate it when the bolt 30 is in threaded engagement within the hub 22.
It will be evident that by integrating the inner ends of the dividers or partitions 24 with the hub 22 and screw-threading the bore in the axial center of the hub, the latter constitutes what may be conveniently described as a nut. The radial partitions may be conveniently grasped with the fingers of ones hand and the nut may be conveniently screwed on or off of the stud or bolt 30. By making the cross section of the hub less than the head 32 and making the flat upper crown portion of the suction cup of a greater diameter than either 22 or 32 an effective structural arrangement is had and because of this it is possible to leave the suction cup in place, detach the dish, fill or partly iill the compartments, and screw the dish back on the stud without bothering to move the suction cup from its established place on the table or elsewhere. Now if both the dish and cup is a unit oii the table the partitions still assist in the coaction with J the nut forming hub in that they enable the dish to be held in one hand and the suction cup grasped with the other and the two parts either screwed together or unscrewed as the case may be. These are indeed features of refinement in a dish which is attached to a place of anchorage by way of a suitably designed suction cup.
Since from the foregoing the construction and advantages of this baby plate are readily understood, further description is deemed to be unnecessary.
However, since numerous modifications will readily occur to those skilled in the art after a consideration of the foregoing specification and accompanying drawings, it is not intended to limit the invention to the precise embodiment of baby plate shown and described, but all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to which fall within the scope of the appended claims.
Having described the invention, what is claimed as new is: l
1. As a new article of manufacture, a food. dish for an infant comprising a dish embodying a container portion having a fiat-bottomed circular base plate with an upstanding peripheral wall, the bottom surface of said base plate being centrally apertured and provided with a centered upstanding integral boss, said boss having an axial bore in alignment with the aperture in the base plate and said bore being screw-threaded and adapted to receive the shank portion of a bolt, said boss constituting a hub and also a nut, and radial partitions joined at their outer ends to the interior surface of said wall and integral along their lower edges with said base plate and integral at their inner ends with said hub, the
height of the hub corresponding to the depth of the container portion.
'2. The structure defined in claim 1 and a] base plate supporting member comprising a resilient suction cup, said cup being of a diameter lessthan the diameter of the base plate andhaving a flatcrown portion underlying the basefplate', said flat crown portion being of a diameter greate er than the cross-sectional diameter of said hub, a bolt adapted to be screwed into the screwthreaded bore in said hub, said bolt. having a flat discoidal head embedded in the crown (portion and of a diameter less than the diameter of the crown portion and of a diameter greater than the cross-sectional diameter of said hub.
