3 Claims.
The present invention relates to new and useful improvements in belts for wearing apparel and more particularly to a novel elastic means for the belt which permits the expansion of the belt when inuse.
An important object of the invention is to provide a garment belt having a pair of coil springs secured lengthwise of the belt to normally hold the belt in a tight body encircling position and also providing an elastic lining at the inner surface of the belt in the region of the springs to prevent contact of the springs With the body.
A still further object is to provide a garment belt of simple and practical construction, which is strong and durable, efficient and reliable in use, relatively inexpensive to manufacture and otherwise Well adapted for the purposes for which the same is intended.
Other objects and advantages reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which:
Figure 1 is a top plan view;
Figure 2 is an enlarged ragmentary elevational View showing the springs secured in position to the outside of the belt;
Figure 3 is a transverse sectional View taken on a line 3 3 of Figure 2 and;
Figure 4 is a View in elevation of the inside of the belt taken on a line 4-4 of Figure 1 and Showing one of the elastic sections for the lining thereof.
Referring now to the drawings in detail wherein for the 'purpose of illustration I have disclosed a preferred embodiment of the invention the numerals 5 and 6 designate a pair of leather belt sections having one end connected to each other by snap fasteners 'l and having substantially rectangular shaped metal loops 8 at their other ends held in folded cloth or other suitable loops or pockets 9 stitched to the belt sections 5 and 6.
A pair of coil springs ID have their ends attached to the metal loops 8, the springs being held in spaced parallel relation to each other at the upper and lower edges of the belt by means of cloth or leather casing s H secured to a belt lining I2 positioned behind the springs.
Elastic lining sections 13 are secured at the ends of the belt lining l2, the outer ends of the elastic sections l3 being secured to the respective belt sections 5 and 6 by stitching [4.
The belt is secured on the body of a person by connecting the free ends of the belt sections 5 and 6 to each other by the snap fasteners 'l and the coil springs lll which are connected to the other ends of the belt sections 5 and B serve to hold the belt tightly on the body and at the same time permit expanding movement of the belt while being worn.
The elastic Sections l3 connecting the ends of the belt lining l2 to the belt sections 5 and 5 also permit the expansion of the belt and take up- Slack in the belt lining 12 during contracting movement of the springs.
In view of the ioregoing description taken in conjunction 'With the accompanying drawings it is believed that a clear understanding of the construction, operation and advantages of the device will be quite apparent to those skilled in this art. A more detailed description is accordingly deemed unnecessary.
It is to be understood, however, that even though there is herein shown and described a preferred embodiment of the invention the same is susceptible to certain changes fully comprehended by the Spirit of the invention as herein described and the scope of the appended Claims.
Having described the invention what is claimed as new is:
l. A garment belt comprising a pair of belt sections each including first and second end portions, said first end portion of the pair of belt sections being spaced from each other, a coil spring connected to and bridging the first end portions, an elongated flexible backing positioned longitudinally behind the coil spring,
'elastic members stitched to the ends of said backing and also stitched to Said first end portions to provide a yieldable insert between the backing and each belt section, and means detachably connecting the second end portions of the belt sections to each other.
2. A garment belt comprising a pair of belt sections each including first and second end portions, said first end portions of the pair of belt sections being spaced from each other, a pair of coil springs positioned parallel to each other and ,connected to and bridging the first end portions, an elongated flexible backing positioned longitudinally behind the coil springs, elastic members stitched to the ends of the backing and also stitched to said first end portions to provide a yieldable insert between the backing and each belt Section, a casing secured to the backing and provided With means enclosing the springs to hold the springs separated from each other, and
3 means detachably connecting the Second end portions of the belt sections to each other.
8. A garment belt comprising a pair of belt sections each including first and second end portions, said first end portions of the pair of belt Sections being Spaced from each other, a pair of coil springs positioned parallel to each other and connected to and bridging the first end portions, an elongated flexible backing positioned longitudnally behind the coil springs, elastic members Stitched to the ends of the backing and also stitched to Said first end portions to provide a yieldable insert between the backing and each belt section, a flexible casing stitched to the backing and provided with means loose1y entions to each other.
