(01. 125-16) My invention relates to a multiple blade sawing machine for cutting marble and stones.
Such sawing machines as commonly used have 2 double columns acting as angular supports of a rectangle, and each column has a bearing carrying an axle, supporting in its turn the blade frame through special brackets A system of pulleys, fiy-wheel, eccentric and connecting rod gives a pendulous motion'to the blade frame which, fed with abrasive sands conveyed and distributed by water, is able to cut the stones placed underneath.
This system presents great mechanical drawbacks inasmuch as at the end of each oscillating stroke there is also a potential inertia which must be absorbed by the fiy-wheel through the connecting rod and eccentric pin.
The object of my invention is to provide a multiple blade sawing machine for the cutting of marble and stones in which abovementioned drawbacks have been eliminated while the production has been greatly increased by the employment of a blade frame suspended at its center on a single axis and executing thereon a combined reciprocating and rocking movement.
A self compensating cycle is thus obtained which tends to overcome the hampering inertia with a consequent faster running of the sawing machine itself.
In the sawing machine according to my invention the multiple blade frame is balanced on two central pivots, and is actuated by the rotating movement of an eccentric pin, fixed on the fly-wheel of the drive shaft, operating on an extension carried by the blade frame.
The frame is thus given a reciprocating movement and a simultaneous rocking movement on its central pivots. The pivot pins for these pivots are carried by the blade frame and engage in slots provided in guide members slidably mounted on the supporting pillars or standards, which slots permit sliding movement of the pins and consequently the position of the axis of rotation of the blade frame varies.
Two movements are thus obtained: a reciprocating movement of the blade frame and, at the same time, a rocking movement of the same, which permits the abrasive mixture composed, as usually, of water and sand, to be dredged.
The sawing of marble or of stones proceeds as follows: the fore part of the blades, located between the pivots and the front of the frame, cuts the marble or stone block in the forward stroke, whilst the aft part of the blades, located between the pivots and the blade frame extension member, goes high, thus allowing the passage of the abrasive mixture under its blades.
In the back stroke, the fore part of the blades goes high whilst the lowered aft part cuts the block. At each turn of the crank, there occurs two half cuts and two dredgings; one forward cut and dredging, and one backward cut and dredging.
Another advantageof my invention consists in the fact that the longitudinal extension or connecting member of the blade frame is placed laterally or to one side, quite different from the arrangement used in other machines: the carriages may thus carry the blocks completely through the sawing machine, so that feeding can be performed at one end and the carrying off at the other, a fact which allows for a much simpler and more rational arrangement of the plant.

Fig. 3 is a sectional view along the lines 33 of Figure 1 showing the details of the sliding guide member and pivot construction.
Referring now more in detail to said drawings, a motor I drives by means of V-belt I two fly- wheels 2, 2 fixed on the same shaft 3. The motor as well as the fly-wheel shaft rests on a support 4 which is slidably mounted on standards 5, 5'. Mechanism for moving the support 4 up and down on said standards comprises the gear wheels 6, 6', operated respectively by pinion I8 and worm I9 mounted on shaft 1. Shaft I also has mounted thereon pinion 20 which engages with and rotates gear wheel 8 which in turn rotates gear wheel 8' by means of the intermediate shaft 2| and gear wheels 22, 23. The turning of gear wheels 8 and 8 operates mechanism to raise or lower guide members 9, 9' by sliding them along the standards l1, H. The guide members 9, 9 are provided with slots I6, I6 in which pivot pins I I, II rest. These pivot pins are fixed to the central portion of the blade frame I t, and support the frame on said guide members. The slots I6, I6 provide for bodily sliding movement of the pins and thus permit longitudinal reciprocatory movement of the blade frame.
A crank pin I2 is eccentrically. fixed on the flywheel 2. It fits into a roller or ball bearing I2 mounted at the end of the longitudinal extension member I4. This extension member serves as a connecting member between the saw-blade frame I II and the crank pin I2. It will be observed that when the fiy-wheel 2 rotates, a combined reciprocatory and rocking movement is imparted to the saw-blade frame. The extension member 14 is rigidly secured to the sawblade frame I!) by means of screw bolts l5.
It will be, understood that theJrOtatiOn of the shaft 1 is controlled by a conventional regulating device (not shown), and that when it is rotated it raises or lowers the drive assembly and the saw-blade frame in unison.
Having now described my invention; what I claim is: r I
1. In a multiple-blade sawing machine'of the character described, a pair of standards, a vertically slidable support comprising a guide member carried on the inner face of each of said standards, a saw-blade frame provided with pins on its central transverse axis pivotally mounted in said guide members, said guide members permitting horizontal reciprocating movement of said pins, a second pair of standards apart from the first pair of standards and located to one side of the line of movement of said frame, a vertically slidable support on said second pair of standards carrying a drive assembly including a crank member, a connectingmember pivoted at one end to'said crank member and rigidly connected at its other end to one end of said frame, and means for simultaneously sliding the said supports vertically on the two pairs of stand ards.

In a machine of the character described, a pair of standards, a saw-blade frame carried by and pivotally mounted between :said standards onit's central transverse axis; said pivotedmounting comprising pivot pins on said saw-blade frame and a guide member on each standard in which said pins respectively are pivoted and which perm-itshorizontal reciprocating movement "of said pins, a longitudinal extension on said saw-blade frame, and means supported independentlyxof.:-said standards and connected to said 'extensionfor reciprocating said saw-blade frame and simultaneously rocking the same on its pivots.
