It is particularly also an object .to :eflic'iently and adjustably supporta paper guide on a paper shelf which blends or merges into a wall situated at :an :angle to the shelf.
Still other objects and features of the in'v en-. tion will be apparent-upon consideration of the detailed description which follows, .as that,.-.description is read in the light of the accompany-'- ing drawings.
Now, specifically referring to the "drawings:
Figure 2.-shows the paper guide and arfraction of the supporting structure therefor seen when looking down upon the rear' of the marriage in the direction indicated at 22 in Figure 1, and Figure 3 is a sectional right-hand perspective view of the paper shelf with the paper guide thereon.
Referring now specifically to Figure 1, a platen I ll of a typewriting machine is turnably mounted in a supporting structure which comprises two widely spaced carriage ends H connected by a bar l2.
These cooperate with the platen conventional front and rear feed rolls, respectively indicated in dot-and-dash lines numbered l3 and I4 A conventional paper apron, indicated at l5, underlies the platen in slightly spaced relation thereto. To the rear of the apron Hi there extends between the carriage ends II, in an upwardly and rearwardly inclined relation, a paper shelf or table ll. Work-sheets. such as one indicated 5 .Cla'ims. (o1. rum-142') 2 at :l 9. .are presented to the platen :from the rear downwardly over the shelf 1.1. .:Said shelf H is fastened to the bar .12 of the carriage structure by: means @of several screws 18, the heads of which are accommodated in recesses below the top surface of the shelf. The said :front association comprises the front-edge 3.1 of the shelf 11 whichis downwardly -curled vandsmooth, and .a groove-presenting glider formation 32 .integral with the body 26 and fitting the edgetl. The other-association :30 comprises a channel or groove 34 formed along the rear of the paper shelf 15! at .or near the ,junctionof the rear wall 22 therewith, and further comprises the .rear portion of the body .22, the latter of which/is down-reaching to constitute .a .U-shaped glider formation .35 fitting the groove 34. Thegroove is preferably .co-extensive with the length of the carriage.
The web or body 26 of the guide is formed or shaped to stand clear of the paper shelf H, except at the said groove-and- edge associations 28 and 30. The clearance so afforded prevents scratching and marring of the paper shelf l1 and wall 22, the latter of which preferably have a crinkle-finish coating, as indicated at 38 in Figure 2, except where the groove-and- edge associations 28 and 30 are afforded, the finish at such associations being smooth or polished.
The paper guide body 26 has one or more stiffening ribs 31 pressed or formed therein as shown, but the upper portion of the web ending in the U-shaped glider formation 35 is curved or arched as at 39. The material of which the guide is made may be springy sheet steel. The guide is of such overall form that when it isin assembled state upon the paper shelf. its glider sequently forcing the other glider formation 32 downwardly over the shelf edge 31, the guide flexing between its two glider formations 32 and 35 and particularly at the arch 39.
The structure is not only very economical to manufacture but has a most pleasing aesthetic effect.
In the preferred form of the invention illustrated and described, the paper guide 25 is supported on a paper shelf H, but, obviously, this is not an essential feature. 1
While the stated resilient pressure contact across the groove-and-edge associations is preferably furnished by reason of the form of the guide body, separate means may be provided "on the guide body to furnish the desired frictional con tact condition.
There are other variations possible within the scope of the invention, such scope being indicated by the following claims.
I claim:
1. In a record preparing machine, a member comprising an elongate paper shelf and a wall merging with and standing generally at an angle with the paper shelf, a side-edge paper guide, two smooth-faced parallel, groove-and-edge asso-' ciations between saidmember and said paper guide, arranged relatively to retain said paper guide slidably on said. member, the groove of one association being provided in said Wall, and flexible means embodied in said paper guide to furnish resilient pressure contact across each of the two groove-and-edge associations.
2. In a record preparing machine having a platen, a paper table at the rear of the platen having a long, smooth front edge and reaching at an incline rearwardly and ending in a downreaching rear portion, a groove formation provided in said down-reaching portion and extending parallel to the said edge, and a side-edge paper guide having a flexible web bridging the space between the said edge and said groove with clearance from the table and having a grooveshaped glider formation to cooperate with said table edge, and having also an edge-shaped glider formation to cooperate with said; table groove, the flexible web of said paper guide being 4 formed to keep the glider formations in frictional contact with the edge and groove of said table.
3. As a new article of manufacture, a side-edge paper guide for sliding adjustment along a paper shelf, comprising, a body having at two extremities integral therewith two spaced, smooth-faced glide-ways extending lineally parallel and facing approximately oppositely in the same plane for individual interfitting, groove-and-edge gliding association with two parallel guide-ways therefor on a paper shelf, said body including an integral, resilient arch between the two glide-ways for groove-and-edge frictional gliding contact of the latter with said parallel guide-ways under resilient pressure afforded by said arch.
4. As a new article of manufacture, a side-edge paper guide for sliding adjustment along a paper shelf, comprising, a body having integral thereto said paper shelf,- a side-edge paper guide, and
two smooth-faced parallel, groove-and-edge associations betweensaid member and said paper guide, arranged relatively to retain said paper guide 'slidably on said member, the groove and the edge of one association provided oppositely on said paper guide and said wall, and the groove and edge'of the other association provided op positely on said paper guide and said paper shelf, and flexible means embodied in said paper guide to furnish resil'ient pressure contact across each of the two g'roove-and-edge associations.
