ELBOW-FITTING FOR DRAINAGE-PIPES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 258,391, dated May 23, 1882.
Application filed March 26, 1881. (No model) To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CALEB W. DURHAM, of Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful I mprovemen tsin Elbow-Fittin gs for Drainage- Pipes for Houses and other Buildings, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates more particularly to an improved elbow-fitting to be used in connection with the system of house-drainage heretofore patented to me, in which iron drainagepipes united by screw-fittings are employed; and the present invention consists in an elbowfitting for such drainage-pipes provided with a hand-hole at its inner angle for the removal of obstructions that may become lodged or collected therein.
The accompanying drawing, which forms a part of this specification, represents a sectional view of a device embodying my invention.
In said drawing, A represents asection of the soil-pipe of a building; B, a section of the main drain, or of a branch pipe leading to the main drain, and O is a branch pipe connecting with the soil-pipe by means of the screw T-titting G. H is an elbow screw-fitting connecting the soil-pipe with the main drain B, and K is a T-fitting connecting the sections of the water-closet pipe 0 and the branch pipe X. Each of these screw-fittings are made of the same interior diameter as that of the pipe or pipes connected, and are provided with an enlargement or recess, a, at their ends, in which the screw-threads b are cut. The sections of the pipe are provided with corresponding threads, 61, so that the same may be screwed into the fittings. The end of the pipe-section should correspond to the base of the recess a in shape, so as to form a closejoint and leave no crevice between the end of the pipe-section and base of the recess. The elbow-fitting H is provided with a hand-hole, h, and screwplug h at its inner angle, for the purpose of removing obstructions that may have become lodged at the j auction of the vertical soil-pipe and horizontal pipe B.
By this construction the elbow-fittin g H may rest upon and be partially embedded in the masonry which supports the vertical soil-pipe without interfering with easy access to the plug it when it is desired to remove thesame. And my improved elbow-fittin g is specially designed for use with my drainage system heretofore patented to me, and in which iron drainage-pipes connected by screw-fittings and supported on foundations independently of the building are employed, and wherein the necessity for the present improvement is greatly felt.
What I claim is- The elbow-fitting for drainage-pipes, provided with a hand-hole atits inner angle, substantially as specified.
