COFFIN.
SPECIFICATION forming' part of Letters Patent No. 258,161, dated May 16, 1882'.
Application tiled January 4, 1882. (No model.)
To all lwhom it may concern:
My invention consists of the combination of,
an inner glass coffin, set with mortar in an outer glass case,with a curved rest for a gasket t to hermetically seal the glass cover.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a top view of a casket having my improvements therein. Fig. 2 is a cross-section thereof. In carrying outmy invention I makea wooden casket, A, with a removable cover, B, and insert a glass coffin, C, therein, embedding the con in mortar, either plaster-of-paris or other material. This coffin is provided with a glass cover, D, Fig. 2, which is sealed in place by means of the same mortar, thus making the cofn completely air-tight for interment or transportation. The coffin may also be inclosed in a leaden case and the joints sealed by a strip of lead. The outer ease, A, has a curved rest or shoulder for a gasket to seal the joint, in connection with the mortar or cement.
