1 Claim.
This invention relates to a combination tub for bathing and general washing.
An object of the invention is to provide a tub that may be partitioned into a plurality of sections by a removable partition.
Another object is to provide a means for preventing the water from one section flowing into the other section.
Another object is the provision of a means for draining the water, separately, from either of the sections.
Another object is the provision of foldable supporting means that may be retracted into the body of the tub.
Another object is to provide a clamping means for the cover of the tub.
A further object is the provision of a sanitary removable means that fits into the outer casing.
The manner in which the above and other objects may be accomplished will be described hereinafter.
Referring now to the drawings:
Figure 1 is a side elevational view;
Figure 2 is a sectional view taken on the line 22 of Figure 1;
Figure 3 is an end view in elevation;
Figure 4 is a view taken on the line 44 of Figure 3; and
Figure 5 is a sectional view taken on the line 5-5 of Figure 4.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, as the twoends of the tub are preferably identical, it is believed to be sufficient to describe only one end thereof. The numeral Hlrefers to the tub, in its entirety, and at any desirable point, preferably at the center, there is provided rail 1 I to retain a partition l3. The partition may be removed by the handle M. The rail ll extends from top to bottom of the sides I2 of the tub and across the bottom l5 thereof. The rail is located on the inner side of the tub and has an inwardly extending rib ll provided with a covering l8, which is preferably made of rubber. The rubber covered rib I! fits into a complementary groove '29 on the bottom of the partition l3. This joint provides a liquid-tight seal between the partition and rail to prevent seepage between compartments 2| and 22. In this manner, the water used for washing, in one compartment, will not mix with that used for rinsing when washing clothing or other articles. When the tub is utilized for bathing, the partition I3 is removed therefrom.
The ends of the rail IT and the covering l8 are crimped around the upper edges of the tub at 21. i
In order to keep the partition 13 in its proper position, there is provided a clamping means consisting of the brackets 28, through which extend screws 29, the latter having loosely arranged thereon retaining fingers 30, the inner ends 3| of which will retain the edges and bottom of the partition in watertight contact with the side and bottom portions of rail [6. The nuts 3| tighten and hold the fingers 30.
The tub H) has its primary use in houses where there does not exist the usual conveniences of urban houses, and for that reason I have provided a tub that is made portable by means of rollers 32 which are positioned on the lower ends of foldable legs 33, the rollers working on a swivel, as indicated at 3 3, the swivel being retained in the leg in any desirable manner.
The legs are each pivoted at 35 and have a collapsible brace 36 which is pivotally attached thereto at 31. The other end of each brace 36 is attached to the frame 38 to pivot thereon, as indicated at 39. Each brace is formed of sections pivoted at 40 in end-to-end relationship to permit folding of the leg 33. The pivot 40 is preferably of the wing nut type in order to definitely hold the leg in either its extended or folded position. The corners of the frame 33 are extended to form short legs 5| which support the tub l0 when the legs 33 are in folded position.
When the legs 33 are folded, the pivot All will lie in the recess 41. In order to allow the legs to be folded, it is only necessary to release the wing nut 42, of the pivot 40, and then tighten it in order to retain the leg in its folded or raised position.
There is a drain provided for the compartments 2| and 22 consisting of the outlets 45 and 46 which have valves 41 and 48 controlling a common outlet 49. The outlet 49 is threaded, as indicated at 50, to make provision for attachment of a hose, not shown.
While there has been illustrated and described the preferred embodiment of the invention, it should be understood that various modifications may be made while keeping within the scope of the appended claim.
I claim:
Acombinaticn bathing and washing tub including a bottom and upwardly diverging side walls, an uninterrupted internal transverse rib extending across said bottom and from top to bottom of the side walls, a removable partition having an uninterrupted groove along its bottom and side edges for inter-fitting engagement with the rib when the partition is applied to the tub to divide the latter into end compartments, a bracket mounted externally on each sideof the l k v 3 tub, a bolt extending upwardly from each bracket, a finger slidably engaging each bolt, said fingers having longitudinally and upwardly bowed inwardly extending free ends overlying the tub sides and bearing on the upper edge of the partition, and nuts threadedly engaging the bolts and bearing upon the upper sides of the fingers for causing the fingers to press the partition into tight fittingengagement with the rib.
