3 Claims. (c1. 68--13) This invention relates to clothes washing apparatus, and more particularly to a novel combination washer and ,wash tub assembly.
The primary object of the present invention resides in the provision of an arrangement of parts whereby clothes,
garments, and the like can be readily washed, rinsed and passed through a wringer in a convenient manner.
The construction of this invention features the use in combination with a washer having a wringer swingably mounted thereon of a pair of tubs which are hingedly attached to the washer and which are adapted to encase the wringer when in their folded position. The tubs are adapted to be swung into overlying relationship on the top of the washer.
A further feature of the invention resides in the novel provision of recesses in the tubs for reception of the legs and braces pivotally attached to the tubs. The legs and braces are adapted to lie flush with the surface of the tub in the recesses.
Still further objects and features of this invention reside in the provision of a combination washer and wash tub assembly that is strong and durable, simple in construction and manufacture, highly efficient in operation, and which is adapted to permit such further rinsing of clothes as may be necessary or the starching thereof in a convenient manner prior to being passed through a wringer while also providing means for receiving the water wrung from the clothes.
These, together with the various ancillary objects and features of the invention which will become apparent as the following description proceeds, are attained by this combination washer and wash tub assembly, a preferred embodiment of which has been illustrated in the accompanying drawings, by way of example only, wherein:
Figure l is a plan view of the invention;
Figure 2 is a side elevational view of the combination washer and wash tub assembly;
Figure 3 is a plan View of the arrangement comprising the present invention illustrating the tubs as folded on the washer;
Figure 4 is a partial sectional view of the invention showing the manner in which the tubs are received on the washer, the sectional view being taken along the plane of line 4-4 in Figure 3;
Figure 5 is an enlarged sectional detail view as taken along the plane of line 5-5 in Figure 3 illustrating the manner in which the leg and brace are received in the recess; and
Figure 6 is a perspective view of one of the tubs.
With continuing reference to the accompanying drawings wherein like reference numerals designate similar parts throughout the various views, reference numeral 10 generally designates the combination washer and wash tub assembly comprising the present invention. This invention includes a washer 12 of generally conventional configuration. The washer 12 is of generally conventional construction and may be supported by legs, as at 14. A wringer 16 is swingably mounted on a standard T- nited States Patent 0 "ice 18 and a collar 20 or the like is provided for catching any water dripping down the standard 18. The wringer 16 may therefore be swung outwardly with respect to the washer 12, thereby permitting ready access to the interior of the washer 12.
Hingedly attached to the washer 12 by means of a piano hinge 20' or the like is a tub 22 having an extension portion 24 integrally formed therewith and provided with recesses 26 in the bottom surface thereof. Foldable into the recesses 26 are leg and brace assemblies 28 adapted to be extended to support the tub 22. A drain plug 30 may be provided, if desired, for the tub 22.
Hingedly attached by means of the piano hinge 32 to the washer 12 is a tub 34 of larger size in each dimension than the tub 22 and of generally similar configuration. The tub 34 may be provided with a drain plug 36 and has an integrally formed extension 38.
Within the lower surface of the tub 34 are a pair of recesses 40 and 42. A pair of leg assemblies of similar construction and designated by reference numeral 44 are foldably hingedly received within the recesses 40 and 42. Each of the leg assemblies 44 includes a main leg portion 46 which has a telescoping extension 48 receivable within and locked in an adjusted position by means of a s'etscrew 50. .A folding snap action brace having folding sections 51 is pivotally attached to the tub 34 and to the main leg portion 46 for lockingly holding the legs in their extended position.
In use, soapy clothes from Washer tub 112 may be wrung into either rinse tub 22 or 34 and may be wrung from that rinse tub into the other rinse tub 34 or 22 through the wringer 16, as may be desired. The tub 34 may be used to catch the water wrung from the clothes, linen or the like.
When it is desired to store this combination washer and wash tub assembly in the smallest possible compass, the wringer may be swung inwardly until it is positioned .over the washer 12, at which time the tub 22 can be positioned and swung about the hinge 20 so as to overlie the washer 12 with the extension 24 receiving the standard 18. Then, with the legs 28 of the tub 22 in a folded position, the tub 34 can be swung on top of the tub 22 so as to encompass the tub 22 and may have its leg assemblies 44 folded into the recesses 40 and 42. It is noted that the extensions 24 and 38 may also serve to underlie the wringer 16 when in an extended position, when such is desired.
From the foregoing, the construction and operation of the device will be readily understood and further explanation is believed to be unnecessary. However, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the invention to the exact construction shown and described, and accordingly, all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to, falling within the scope of the appended claims.
What is claimed as new is as follows:
1. A combination washer and wash tub assembly comprising a washer, a wringer, means swingably mounting said wringer on said washer and enabling said wringer to be moved into overlying position with respect to said washer, a pair of tubs, one of said tubs being smaller than the other of said tubs said tubs being hingedly attached to said washer by means of hinges with the axes of said hinges being substantially horizontal and with the tubs being swingable into overlying relationship with respect to said washer with a first of said tubs encasing said wringer and the other of said tubs encasing said first tub, said tubs having recesses in the bases thereof, a plurality of legs, and means attaching said legs to said tubs enabling said legs to seat in said recesses flush with said tubs when folded and enabling said legs to support said tubs when extended.
2. A combination Washer and Wash tub assembly comprising'a Washer, a wringer, means swingably mounting said wringer on said washer and enabling said wringer to be moved into overlying position with respect to said washer, a pair of tubs, one of said tubs being smaller than the other of said tubs, said tubs being hingedly attached to said washer by means of hinges with the axes of said hinges being substantially horizontal and with the tubs being swingable into overlying relationship with respect to said washer with a first of said tubs enoasing said wringer and the other of said tubs encasing said first tub, each of said tubs having an extension, said extension being adapted to underlie said wringer and being swingable to overlie the swingable connection between said wrin-ger and said washer.
3. A combination washer and wash tub assembly comprising a washer, a Wringer, means swingably mounting said wringer on said washer and enabling said Wringer to be moved into overlying position with respect to said washer, a pair of tubs, one of said tubs being smaller than the other of said tubs, said tubs being hingedly attached to said washer by means of hinges With the axes of said hinges being substantially horizontal and with the tubs being swingable into overlying relationship with respect to said Washer with a first of said tubs encasing sa-id wringer and the other of said tubs encasing said first tub, said tubs having recesses in the bases thereof, a plurality of legs, and means attaching said legs to said tubs enabling said legs to seat in said recesses flush with said tubs when folded and enabling said legs to support said tubs when extended, and snap braces pivotally attached to said legs and said base lockingly holding said legs in their extended position.
