. 3 Claims.
- 1 This invention relates to improvements in dispensing containers.
The main objects of this invention are:
. First, to provide a dispensing container adapted to contain a number of pills or other similar arfiber stock and moldable plastics.
Objects relating todetails and economies of the invention will definitely appear from the description to follow. The invention is defined. in the claims.
A structure which embodies the features of the invention is clearly illustrated in the accompany ing drawing, in which:

Fig. 6 is a fragmentary sectional view of a -modification or embodiment of our invention illustrating an adaptation thereof as a stopper to a glass bottle or receptacle.
The embodiment of the invention illustrated in Figs. 1 to 4, inclusive, comprises a cylindrical body I closed at the bottom and formed of container board stock although it will be understood that it may be formed of other material if desired. The closure member 2 is designed as a dispensing member and is provided with an annular peripheral groove 3 into which the upper edge l of the container body is engaged to retain the closure member and permit its rotative adjustment. The projecting portion 5 of the closure member is designed as a fingerpiece or grip.
The container is provided with a side delivery opening 6 adjacent its upper end. The closure member is provided with a plurality of charge chambers 1 angularly spaced and opening axially V to thecontainer and also radially. In the embodiment illustrated these are in the form. of notches in the inner end of the closure member, and, as illustrated, are of such size as to singly receive an article 2| to be dispensed, the articles illustrated being in the form of spherical pills. The chambers I are brought singly or individually into register with the delivery opening as shown in Figs. 2 and 4. It will be understood that the charge chambers or pockets might be of such size relative to the articles dispensed as to deliver a plurality of articles at each delivery.
To prevent the articles to be dispensed from I entering the charge chamber when it is in register with the delivery opening, we provide -a guard 9 which is sleeved Within the container and has an upper edge portion II] positioned substantially flush with the bottom of the delivery opening and preventing an object to enter the chamber in chambers or pockets. The segments II between the chambers or pockets constitute closures for the discharge opening which is a desirable feature as it prevents dirt and other material from entering the container and also effectively closes the container to protect its contents.
For shipment or storage the discharge opening is desirably closed by means of a piece of adhesive tape l2, see Fig. 1. This not only protects the contents but prevents the manipulation of the dispensing closure for the discharge of contents while-the package is being packed or mersecured by means of the stud I5 having a head or retaining element I6 on its inner end. 'The container I1 is provided with a side dispensing opening I8. The closure member I3 has pockets or chambers I9 arranged as described for the embodiment shown in Figs. 1 to 4.
The disk I4 is a press fit or friction fit within the container and is disposed at the'inner side of its discharge opening l8. It serves to rotatably support the member I3, the outer end of which serves as a fingerpiece and overhangs the edge of the container. The closure member I4 is provided with an opening 20 disposed in non-registering relation to the discharge opening I8, prefcylindrical body member 22 constitutes a stopper and is removably supported within the neck of the bottle 24 desirably by means of the surrounding gasket 23. The parts are otherwise as illustrated in Figs. 1 to 4, inclusive.
The dispensing containers of this invention z may be made of a size especially adapting them for carrying in a pocket, handbag or the like, the contents are well protected, and at the same time readily accessible. The embodiment of'the invention shown in Figs. 1 to 4 is of particular advantage in that it is practically impossible to wedge a pill between a fixed portion of thecontainer and the rotatable cap and thus crush the pill;

have not attempted to illustrate or describe other embodiments or adaptations whichmight be desirable as it is believed this disclosure will enable those skilled in the art to embody the invention as may be desired.
Having thus described-our invention What we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
l. A dispensingbontainer comprisinga cylindrieal body-closed at the bottom and having a side'delivery opening adjacent the top thereof, a
closure member having an annular peripheral "groove'adjacent its outer end, the top edge of the body wall-being turned inwardly into retaining engagement with said groove and permitting roe tation of the closure member, the projecting end of theclosure member constituting a fingerpiece,
saidclosure member having a plurality of angularly spaced charge chambers opening to the container'andopening peripherally in the plane of the dischargeopeni'ng of the container and "charge chambers, and a tubular guardmember sleevedwithin the body with a portion of its upper edge substantially flush withthe bottom of the delivery opening and constituting a guard'for a charge chamber registering with the delivery opening, the upper edge of the guard member bein g'inclined away from said delivery opening permitting entrance of articles to be dispensed into a charge chamber remote from the delivery I opening.
'2. A dispensing container comprising a cylindrical body closed at the bottom and having a side delivery opening adjacent the top thereof, a closure member having an annular peripheral groove adjacent its outer end, the top edge of the body wall being turned inwardly into retaining engagement with said groove and permitting rotation of the closure member, the projecting end of the closure memberv constituting a fingerpiece, said closure member having a plurality of angularly spaced charge chambers opening to the container and opening peripherally in the plane of the discharge opening of the container and adapted to be singly brought into register therewith by the rotatable adjustment of the closure member, 'the segments of the closure member between the charge chambers constituting closures for the delivery opening alternating with the charge chambers, and a tubular guard member sleeved within the body with a portion of its upper edge constituting a -guard for a charge chamber registering with thedelivery opening.

A dispensing container comprising a .cylindrical body closed at the bottom and having a side delivery opening adjacent'thetop thereof, a closure member having an annular pe ripheral groove adjacent its outer 'end, the top edge of the body wall being turned inwardlyinto retaining engagement; with said groove. and permitting rotation of the closure member, theproj'ecting end or'the closure member constituting a fingerpiecesaid closure member having a plurality of angularly spaced charge chambers opening to the container andcopening peripherally in the plane of the discharge opening of the container andadapted to be singly brought into register therewith by the rotatable adjustment of the clcsure'member, the segments of the closure member between the charge chambers constituting closures for the delivery opening alternating with the charge chambers, and 'means within the container body constituting a-gu'ard for the charge chamber registering with the delivery opening.
