2 Claims.
This invention has general reference to garments for children and, more particularly relates to the species generally known as sleeping suits comprising plural components having capacity for variable adjustment to accommodate growth of an infant, young child or junior.
Sleeping suits of the type referred to, while measurably satisfactory usually are disadvantageous in that they are apt to develop objectionable gathering or puckering around the waist, abdominal, hip and buttock regions of the wearer, thereby causing discomfort and disturbing the rest of the wearer.
The primary object of my invention is to overcome the above noted disadvantages in a simple and practical manner, by provision of a three part garment or sleeping suit for infants, young children and juniors, which can be varyingly adjusted, lengthwise and expandingly, to accommodate growth of the wearer without incurring any discomfort. Y
With the just stated object, and subsidiary ones in view, my invention essentially consists of a three-part garment or suit comprising an upper body or shirt section, a lower skirt or trouser section, and an intervening or waist section capable of lengthwise, as well as expansive or contractive,
adjustment between the body or shirt, and skirt or trouser sections as desirable.
In order that my invention may be clearly understood and carried into effect, I will now describe the same by reference to the accompanying sheet of illustrative drawings, wherein like characters of reference designate corresponding parts in all the views.
In the drawings:
Fig. 1 is frontal portraiture of a young boy dressed in a typical embodiment, or sleeping suit, made in accordance with my invention.
Fig. 2 is a rear View of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a vertical section in the midriff region of the improved sleeping suit and including the lengthwise adjustable waist section; and,
Fig. 4 is a similar section to the preceding figure with the waist section removed.
Referring more in detail to the drawings and particularly to Figs. 1 and 2 thereof it will be observed that the improved sleeping suit shown comprises a shirt 5 including sleeves 6 6; a
trousers portion 'l embodying socks 8 8; and a lengthwise adjustable or removable waist section 9. The shirt 5 is ofthe type preferably for fastening at the back and it is provided with male snap fastener components I0 at the back and front; while the trousers 'l are similarly equipped with spaced front and rear female snap fastener components l0.
It is also observable that the rear waist line of the trousers 1, Fig. 2, is fitted with an elastic or other contractile strip H; and that the waist section 9 is likewise provided with a corresponding strip i2, to effect the customary even ingathering of the material to the waist of the wearer i3 (a young boy being depicted for example only) for neatness in appearance and general comfort.
Referring now to Figs. 1 to 3 inclusive the waist section 9 consists of a body encircling band of like material to that of which the shirt 5 and trousers 1 are made; said waist section 9 being provided with vertically spaced and laterally positioned female snap fastener components i4 for coaction with the upper complemental male components El) on the shirt 5; as well as the downwardly related snap fastener male components l5 for engagement with the female components if." on the trouser 1, as clearly apparent from Fig. 3.
From the foregoing it will be readily understood that, when the sleeping suit is first obtained, it will be of a size to fit the infant or child without insertion therein of the waist section S as typically indicated by Fig. 4. It will also be equally apparent that, as the child outgrows the initial assembly of the parts 5, l, the waist section 9 is applied, in an obvious manner, as shown in Fig. 3; whereas a further relative extension or enlargement of the suit may be enabled by providing said waist section 9 with a further set of spaced snap fastener male components I5 engageable with components lil. In brief, as an infant grows, my improved sleeping suit is expeditiously lengthened to accommodate such growth; while it will further be appreciated my invention is equally applicable to other garments such as rompers, sun and play suits, without departing from the basic feature of providing a waist section for insertion between a skirt or trousers and an upper body portion or shirt.
Having thus described my invention, I claim:
l. In a garment for infants, young children and juniors, including an upper or shirt section and a trouser or lower section, and said lower section including a contractable strip at the rear waist line, two-part fastener means, respectively secured to said sections for detachably connecting them together in operative association; and an adjustable or removable waist section, also including a contractable strip at the rear waist line insertable between the upper and lower garment sections, said waist-section having multiple,
vertically and laterally spaced, two-part fastener means on the inner and outer faces thereof for selective engagement with the correlated mating fastener portions of the yupper and lower sections of the garment, whereby said garment is adjustable lengthwise to accommodate growth 0f the wearer.
2. The invention of claim 1 wherein the waist section is equipped with attached vertically spaced female and male snap fastener components for selective opposed mating connection with those on the upper and lower garment sections.
