Description

(No Model.) r 'W. A. HILTON.
BOSOM BOARD. No. 257,705.
PETERS. PhnlWUMr-lphr. Wluh ngw l. D. C.
Patented May 9, 1882.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE;
WILLIAM ,A. HILTON, OFBATTLE CREEK, MICHIGAN.
BOSOM-BOARD.
SPECIFICATION forming art of Letters Patent No. 257,705, dated May 9, 1882.
Application filed August 25, 1881.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM A. HILTON, a citizen of the United States, residing at the city of Battle Creek, in the county of Calhoun and State of Michigan, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Shirt-Bosoni Boards, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to certain improvements in bosom-boards; and it has for its object to provide a board whereby a shirt-bosom may be stretched laterally and longitudinally, and held during the operation of ironing. These objects I attain by the devices illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 represents a front view ofthe board, showing the bosom in place thereon; and Fig, 2, a detached view of a portion of the frame of the board by means of which the bosom is sccured thereon.
The letter A indicates the board,wl|ich is of the size of the average shirt-bosom. Said board may be constructed of anysuitable material, and is rectangular in shape, except at the top, which is curved to conform to the curved portion of the upper part of the shirt and bosom.
The letter B indicates a framewhich is constructed in two parts hinged together by means ofalink,1). Thesaid frame, nearitsupperends,
is provided with springs C, which are looped (No model.)
at their extremities and coupeeted by means of a curved'wire, (3, having hooked ends E, which engage the loops of the springs. The upper edge of the board is provided with a transverse groove, in which the curved wire is adaptedto set when the frame is in place upon the board.
The operation of my invention will be readil y understood in connection with the above description, and is as follows: The board is placed inside the shirt directly under thehosom. The frame is then placed on the outside and sprung around the edges of the board as covered by the front of the shirt, stretching and holding the bosom on the board, the wire 0 securing the frame by engaging the groove at'tl'ic top of the board.
Havingthus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent,
The combination, with the boardA,pro\-'ided witha groove at its upper edge, of the frame B, constructed in two parts hinged together by a link, D, andthe springs G and connecting-wire 0, all constructed and adapted to be operated substantially as specified.
XVM. A. HILTON.
