IRONING-TABLE.

To all whom it may concern,.-

Be it known that I, WARREN E. HEERICK, a citizen of theUnited States, residing at Vermontville, in the county of Eaton and State of Michigan, have invented a new and useful Ironing-Table, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to laundry devices, and more especially to the ironing-board used therein; and the object of the same is to provide an improved ironing-board, as hereinafter more fully described, claimed, and illus-4 trated in the drawings, in which- Figure lis a side elevation of my improved ironing-table in its operative position. Fig. 2 is a bottom plan of the same when folded. Fig. 3 is a bottom plan of the bedpiece,show ing the clothes-rack as distended. Fig. et is an end elevation showing the clothes-rack as housed and the support in operative position. Fig. 5 is a plan View of the bars, partly in section, to show the connecting-rod.

Referring to the said drawings, the letter B designates the bed-piece or top of this improved ironing-table, whose narrow end is preferably cut on inwardly-curving lines N, whereby the neck-bands of shirts of various sizes may be ironed thereon. To the lower side of this bed-piece B, at one end thereof,

is secured the metal casting M,through whichA passes a horizontal rod H, and on this rod are pivoted the upper ends of the legs L, these legs being connected by a rung R near theirlower ends. Pivotally mounted between the legs,

on a pivoting-rod P, is a frame F, which is' adapted to be opened, as shown in Fig. 1, to support the table. On the under side of the bed-piece B are a number of cleats E, against which the upper end of the frameF abuis to hold the table-top at a proper elevation above the floor. l Y

The letters C C designate a number of bars whose inner ends are loosely connected by a rod I, passing through them and holdin g them together, whose bodies pass between the horizontal rod H and the bed-piece B, and whose outer ends pass between lugs G of the metallic casting M, as shown in Fig. 4. The central bar C is preferably provided with a slot S, which engages a pin Q in the bottom of the bed-piece, and this bar may also pass between other pins q, as shown, the object being that this central bar shall have a longitudinal movement when it is drawn out exactly in line with the central line of the bed-piece. As the bars are held in Contact by the rod I at their inner ends, and are separated at their outer ends by the lugs G when they are drawn out, as shown inFig. 3, they will be considerably distended, like the'sticks of a fan, and clothes may be hung thereon for drying or other purposes.

V are levers pivoted at o to the sides of the bed-piece B, and r are rods connecting `the shorter arms Ofthese levers with the ends of a flap-Slat X.

When a shirt is to be ironed, the bosom is passed over the bed-piece B, and the skirt, where it extends beyond the broader end of said bed-piece, is rolled upon the flap-Slat X,

which, it will be understood, is journaled in the ends of the rods r. After the shirt has been drawn tight, so that thebosom will lie fiat upon the bed-piece, the levers V are operated so as to draw the rods o inwardly and cause the nap-Slat X and the shirt that is Wound thereon to be pressed tightly against the end of the bed-piece, the length of the shorter arms of said levers being such that when the shirt is thus clamped between the flap-Slat and the bed-piece the pivots at the outer ends of the shorter arms and the pivots u will be exactly parallel with the table-top.

What is claimed as new is- In an ironing-table, the combination, with the bed-piece B, having a square larger end, and means for supporting said bed-piece, of levers V, pivoted to the sides of said bedpiece, rods r, pivoted toy said levers, and a flap-Slat X, journaled between said rods and standing normally beyond `and parallel with said squared end of the bed-piece, 'as and for the purpose hereinbefore set forth.
