It is an object of my invention to overcomethe boss cow problem by providing a noveLand improved halter adapted to be mounted on the boss cows head and to hurt said cow when she butts her head against another cow or other object.

More specifically it is an object to provide a halter having at least one pointed prong adapted to be held in normally spaced relation from the cows head and to be pressed against said head when pressure is applied against the outer side thereof.

These and other objects and advantages of my invention will more fully appear from the following description made in connection with the accompanying drawings wherein like reference characters refer to similar parts throughout the several views and in which;

Fig. l is a side perspective view of my cow halter as mounted on the head of a, cow and showing one side of said halter;

Fig. 2 is a perspective view ofthe cow halter illustrated in Fig. 1 showing the other side thereof; and,

Fig. 3 is a transverse vertical sectional view taken substantially along the line 3-3 of Fig. 2 and showing the detail of the prongs and resilient spacing element of the bar member.

As illustrated in the accompanying drawings, I provide a halter having an upper head strap 5 adapted to fit behind a cows ears and embrace the upper rear portion of the cows head as best shown in Fig. 1. An upper nose strap 6 is adapted to fit over an intermediate portion of the cows nose slightly below the cows eyes as best shown in Fig. 1. Connector rings 1 and 8 are connected respectively to the lower ends of strap 5 and rings 9 and H] are connected respectively to the lower ends of strap 6. A pair of central longitudinal straps H and I2 connect the medial portions of head and nose straps 5 and 6 and are disposed in spaced parallel relation. The ends of said straps II and 12 are fixed respectively to the head and nose straps 5 and 5 as by being riveted thereto.

The above described halter is more or less conventional in design and is only a part of my present invention in that it cooperates therewith to hold the same in place. In the form of my invention illustrated, I provide a pair of cross bars 20 which are disposed at substantially right angles to the spaced longitudinal straps I and I2 and interconnect the upper portions of said straps, said bars 20 being disposed in spaced relation to each other. A pair of bolts 2| connect each of said bars 20 with their respective portions of parallel straps H and 2. Each of the bolts 2| has a large head which projects outwardly a slight distance beyond said bars 20. A nut 22 as best shown in Fig. 3 is threadably engaged on each of the bolts 2| and securely holds The inner ends of bolts 2| are tapered to a rather dull point on projection and the nuts 22 are adapted to be screwed down beyond said points to leave the points projecting inwardly there beyond to form head engaging prongs. A resilient pad such as the sponge rubber pad 23 is connected to each of the bars 20 intermediate the two bolts 2| to normally hold the prongs in slightly spaced relation from the head of the cow. A bolt and nut 24 connect said sponge rubber 23 to the medial portion of bar 20 as best shown in Fig. 3.

The bars 20 are so disposed that when the cow uses her head to butt another cow, the heads of the bolts 2| will engage against the other cow and press the pointed prongs against thevhead of the boss cow. This will cause the boss cow great pain without seriously injuring her and will soon break her of butting the other cows.

It will be seen that I have provided an extremely simple yet highly eflicient boss cow tamer which will very efficiently stop the boss cows from injuring the other cows in the herd. It

I claim:
