The present invention relates to filing cabinets for storing articles such as photographic plates and the like and is more particularly concerned with filing cabinets provided with article raising members for assisting in lifting the articles from the cabinet.

The principal object of the present invention is to provide an economically constructed filing cabinet for photographic plates and similar articles which includes means for raising certain of the articles as desired from the cabinet whereby they may be readily lifted from the cabinet.

In the accompanying drawings Fig. 1 is a crosssectional view Of a cabinet according to the present invention as taken on line I--I of Fig. 3.

Fig. 2 is a cross-sectional view of the cabinet taken on line 2-2 of Fig. 3.

And Fig. 3 is a plan view of a portion of the present filing cabinet.

Referring now more particularly to the accompanying drawing wherein like and corresponding parts are designated by similar reference characters, I indicates the article raising member rotated by means of a handle 3. The articles 4 are vertically positioned each between a pair of guides 2 and supported at their lower end upon support bars 5.

A cabinet consisting of an open top box formed by rectangular bottom 6, side walls I, and end walls 8 support the aforementioned member positioned therein.

Bars 5 extend longitudinally along said bottom 6 for supporting articles spaced from said bottom 6. Vertical guides 2 are mounted on side walls I with the corresponding guides 2 on each wall diametrically opposite to one another and the adjacent guides 2 spaced apart for receiving an article 4 therebetween.

The article raising member or shaft I is rotatably mounted through end walls 8 with handle 3 connected at one end for operating the same. Said shaft I has two series of arms I and arms II formed extending at right angles thereto with each series extending from an opposite side of said shaft I to the other series. The arms I0 and II are further positioned so that only one am In or II extends in the space between each pair of guides 2 with said arms In alternating with said arms II. Thus there is only one arm III or II beneath each article 4 with an arm in series I0 beneath the articles 4 in the even spaces, see Fig. 3, and an arm in series II beneath the article 4 in the odd spaces.

End wall 8 adjacent handle 3 has three recesses I formed therein on an arc and 45 degrees apart with the center recess centrally located. Each recess has a coil spring I6 and pin II positioned and retained therein. Handle 3 also has a small recess I8 formed therein for receiving each of said pins I7 and thereby retaining handle 3 either vertically or at 45 degress therefrom for maintaining arms Ill and II in a horizontal or 45 degree angle as desired.

Whereas the invention is capable of modification such changes thereto as come within the scope of the appended claims are considered part of the present invention.

I claim:

1. In combination with a filing cabinet having an open top container, a series of plates slidably mounted through the opened top of said container and each having a straight lower edge, a rotatable shaft journalled within said container below the straight lower edges of said plates, a plurality of radially extending arms formed with said shaft, said arms being arranged in a pair of diametrically opposite rows and the arms of one row being alternately arranged with respect to the arms of the opposite row, one end of said shaft projecting from said container and a manually operable knob connected to the projecting end of said shaft whereby upon the rotation of the latter said arms will be caused to selectively engage the straight lower edges of said plates for ejecting the latter through the opened top of said container.

2. In combination with a filing cabinet having an open top container, a pair of supporting bars mounted within said container below the open top thereof, a series of plates each having a straight lower edge vertically movable within said container and having their straight lower edges resting upon said supporting bars, a rotatable shaft journalled within said container and arranged between said supporting bars, a plurality of radially extending arms formed with said shaft normally positioned between said supporting bars and below said plates and a manually controlled knob connected to said shaft whereby upon the rotation of said shaft in one direction said arms will be caused to selectively engage certain of said plates and when rotated in an opposite direction will be caused to selectively engage other of said plates for ejecting the latter through the open end of said container.
