This invention relates to improvements in pneumatic thread removers for weft replenishing loooms and it is the general object of the invention to provide means for controlling movement of the remover to prevent it from being moved against a misplaced shuttle on a weft replenishing operation of the loom.
Pneumatic thread removers for the outgoing thread in weft replenishing looms are generally located in an inoperative thread non-pickup position and are removed to thread pick-up position on a weft replenishing beat. This movement in the past has been accomplished by means of the transferrer arm of the reserve bobbin magazine and the operation has been such that whenever the transferrer arm has an operative movement the remover is necessarily moved to its thread pick-up position.
Weft replenishing mechanisms are ordinarily provided with some form of shuttle position detector the purpose of whichis to prevent or revoke a previously called Weft replenishing operation if the shuttle is not properly boxed and projects out of the shuttlebox sufiiciently to be unable to receive the incoming bobbin. Such revoking operations do not always occur, however, especially if the shuttle is only slightly misplaced. The shuttle position detector, when moved by the misplaced shuttle, releases the transferrer latch, but if the latter does not fall out of the path of the bunter on the lay a replenishing operation will occur, and under these conditions the thread remover will be moved against the misplaced shuttle with resultant breakage either of the remover or the shuttle.
It is an important object of the present'invention to provide a simple form of control or positioning mechanism including force transmitting elements between the transferrer arm andthe remover normally effective to permit the trans ferrer arm to move the remover to its pick-up position on a replenishing operation of the loom if the shuttle is properly boxed, but wherein provision is made for preventing the force transmitting means for removing the remover toits pick-up position should the transferrer have an operation when the shuttle is misplaced.
It is a further object of the invention to provide the thread remover with a movable dog or the like under control of the shuttle position detector to be moved by the latter to inoperative position in the event that a misplaced shuttl moves the shuttle position detector.
With these and other objects in view*wh ich will appear as the description proceeds, the 'invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and set forth.

Referring to Figs. 1 and 2, the loom frame I has secured thereto the foot 2 of a reserve bobbin magazine M which in the present instance is of the multicolor type. The foot 2 supports a transferrer arm stud 3 on which is pivotally mounted the bobbin transferrer arm 4. Arm 4 has pivoted thereto a transfer latch 5 for oper ation by a bunter B on the lay L' as the latter moves forwardly on weft replenishing beats of the loom. Normally the latch 5 is in the full line down position shown in Fig. 1, but when bobbin transfer is to occur a rod 1 will be depressed to lift the latch to the dotted line position for engagement with the bunter 6.
Pivoted to the magazine M at 8 is a shuttle position detector or feeler carrier 9 having an arm ID to which is secured the shuttle position detector or feeler l I. An upwardly extending rod I2 is connected to another arm l3 of the carrier 9 and is normally in raised position so that the shuttle feeler l I is in the full line position shown in Fig. 1 above the lay and shuttle.
When the magazine is set for a bobbin changing operation rods 1 and I2 are both depressed so that the latch will be raised as already described and the shuttle feeler II will be lowered 'to'the dotted line position shown in Fig. 1. The
magazine is set for transfer while the lay is in a rearward position and if the shuttle S is properly boxed transfer will proceed in normal manner, but if th shuttle is misplaced and projects under the shuttle feeler II the latter will be raised by the shuttle as the lay moves forwardly, or to the right in Fig. 1, toward its front center position. This lifting of the shuttle feeler I! by the misplaced shuttle is for the purpose of revoking bobbin transfer and has the well-known effect by mechanism not shown herein of lifting rod 1 for the purpose of permitting the latch 5 to drop out of the path of bunter 6. If the latch 5 is slow to respond to upward movement of the rod'l, however, it may not be able to fall out of the path of the hunter 6 in time and the transferrer arm 4 will have an operating movement despite the fact that revocation of such movement was attempted by the shuttle feeler II. If a shuttle is properly boxed the shuttle feeler II will be lifted by box back t as the lay nears its front center position, thereby resetting the magazine. This resetting occurs while the latch 5 is still en.- gaged with the bunter E and it is for this reason that rod 1 cannot be connected directly to latch 5 to exert a positive force on it tending'to move it down when bobbin transfer is revoked.
The loom is provided with pneumatic means for removing the thread extending from the shuttle to the selvage adjacent to the magazine M, the removing means being designated generally at R. and including a carrier mounted for angular motion on the stud 3 and held frictionally against part of the foot 2 by a fiat spring it. The latter has the effect of holding the remover in any position to which it is moved. The carrier has slidably mounted thereon an elongated member or rod H to the rear end of which is secured a thread bafile 18 supporting thread remover tube IS. The latter has a thread pick-up hook 20 extending below a thread intake mouth 2|, and a hose 22 is connected to the upper end of the tube IS. The hose leads to any approved form of pump or the like for creating subatmospheric pressures, or may lead to a thread collector of known design. It will be sufiicient for the purposes of the present invention if subatmospheric pressures exist within the tube l9 when the remover is in its thread pick-up position to attract the thread into the mouth} I The magazine M is of the usual stationary multicolor type but the invention is not necessarily limited to a magazine of this form, and the remover R is shown for illustrative purposes to set forth one type of pneumatic thread remover which can be used with the invention. Except as noted hereinafter the matter thus far described is of common construction and operates in the usual manner.
In carrying the invention into effect the shuttle position detector carrier 9 is provided with a short upright arm 25 pivoted as at 26 to the rear end of a control rod 21. The front end of rod 21 has a head 28 and a collar 29 is secured to the rod behind the head and receives the rearward thrust of a light compression spring an surrounding part of rod 21. The transferrer arm is formed with a hub .40 having integral therewith an upstandin arm 4| to which is secured an actuator element designated generally at 42. This element hasa body or plate 43 secured to arm 4! by screws 44 and has a laterally extending arm 35, see Fig. 2. Arm
45 is formed with a hook or lifting butment 4 6 and 'a guard 41 extending upwardly from the hook. The hook and guard are adapted for cooperation with the lower actuated dagger end 48 W direction as viewed in Fig. 4 each time the the rod head 28 which will rock th'e .dog 33 to 4 transferrer arm has an operating or bobbin transferring stroke.
Under normal conditions the parts will be in the position shown in full lines in Fig. l, the arm 25 and rod 21 being in rear position to cause head 28 to hold dog 33 in its inoperative position with dagger end 48 out of register with the hook 46. The spring 30 will be full expanded to hold the block 3| against head 28 and the remover R will be in its raised thread non-pick-up position, and the transferrer arm 4 will be up in its normal position.
When the magazine is set for transfer the shuttle feeler arm moves to the dotted line position shown in Fig. 1 and in doing so moves the rod 21 forwardly, to the right in Fig. 1, whereupon the spring 30 moves the dog 33 to its operative positionwith respect to the actuator element 42 with the dagger 48 over or in register with hook 46, as shown in dotted lines in Fig. l and full lines in Fig. 4. The magazine will be set for transfer and "the dog 33 will be as shown in full linesin Fig. 4
prior to engagement of latch 5 by hunter 6 while the lay is still in a rearward position. If the shuttle S is properly boxed and does not extend under the shuttle feeler II the lay will advance and hunter 6 will engage latch 5 to rock the transferrer arm 4 down or in a counter-clockwise di-' rection, Fig. 1. The accompanying upward movement of the actuator member 42'causes engagement betweenthe hook 46 and dagger 48 to lift the dog 33, thereby rockingthe remover down to its thread pick-up position.
During movement of the remover to its pick-up position, indicated in dotted lines in Fig. 5, the dog 33 will rock around the axis of stud 3 and the block 3| will be given a rearward motion along rod 21 away from head 28 to compress the spring 30. The latter spring is weak,and' although it exerts a rearward force on rod 21, this force'is not sufiicient to disturb the setting of the'shuttle feeler I I. The dog and element .42 remain opera tively engaged until the lay is on front "center and the transferrer arm is in its lowest position, but prior to arrival of the lay at'its front center position the shuttle box back M will engagethe under side of the shuttle feeler II. and lift the same, thereby causing a rearward movement of head 28 toward the block 3|. The shuttle feeler is thus restored to its normal resetposition without disturbing the dog 33, which remains seated on hook 46 as the magazine is reset. Thereafter as the lay moves rearwardly the transferrer arm will rise, but the remover R wiill be held fric; tionally in its down or thread pick-up position, and the element 42 will move from the dotted line position shown in Fig. 4'back to thefull line normal position as the transferrer arm returns'to normal position; These are the operations which occur when the shuttle is properly placed and does not engage the shuttle feeler I l. 1
If the shuttle should not be'properly boxed but should extend toward the cloth and'under the shuttle feeler II when the magazine. is. set'for transfer, forward motion of the lay will cause the misplaced shuttle to lift the shuttle'feeler l I prior to engagement of the bunter 6 with the latchi5 and a revoking operation 'willbe initiated which may or may not successfully prevent an operating stroke of the transferrer arm 4. From the foregoing it will be seen that the invention sets forth a simple connection between the shuttle feeler I l and the movable actuated spring 30 is compressed during a normal operation so that the control rod 21 may bemoved rearwardly when the magazine is reset without disturbing the setting of the dog 33.

In a weft replenishing loom, a bobbin transferrer arm having an operating stroke on a weft replenishing beat of the loom, an actuator element secured to and moving with the transferrer arm, a thread remover normally in thread nonpick-up position but movable to thread pick-up position, a dog pivoted to the thread remover, a shuttle position detector moving from normal to shuttle detecting position incident to a weft replenishing operation, and operating connections between the shuttle detector and the dog effective to move the latter into cooperative relation with the actuator element when the shuttle feeler moves to detecting position and effective in the event that the shuttle detector is moved by a misplaced shuttle to move said dog out of operative relation with respect to said actuator element.
2. In a weft replenishing loom, a transferrer arm having an operating stroke on a weft replenishing beat of the loom, an actuator element fixed to and moving with a transferrer arm, a thread remover normally in thread non-pick-up position but movable to thread pick-up position, an actuated element pivoted on the remover, said actuator and actuated elements being in cooperative position preparatory to a weft replenishing operation to enable the transferrer arm on an operating stroke thereof to move the thread remover to the pick-up position thereof, a shuttle position detector, and connections between the detector and actuated element effective upon movement of the detector by a misplaced shuttle to move the actuated element relatively to the remover to non-cooperative position with respect to the actuator element to prevent the transferrer arm from moving the remover to thread pick-up position.
3. In a weft replenishing loom, a transferrer arm having an operating stroke on a weft replenishing beat of the loom, an actuator element the spirit and scope of the invenfixed to and moving with the transferrer arm, a thread remover normaly in thread non-pick-up position but movable to thread pick-up position, a dog pivoted on the remover, said dog and actuator being in cooperative position preparatory to a weft replenishing operation to enable the transferrer arm when having an operating stroke to move the remover to thread pick-up position, a
shuttle position detector in detecting position on a replenishing beat of the loom and capable of movementby a misplaced shuttle, and operating connections between the shuttle detector and said dog effective to move the latter to non-cooperative relation with respect to the actuator in the event that the shuttl detector is moved by a misplaced shuttle to prevent the transferrer arm from, moving the remover to thread pick-up position.
4. In a weft replenishing loom, a transferrer arm having an operating stroke on a weft replenishing beat of the loom, an actuator element fixedto and moving with the transferrer arm, a thread remover normally in thread non-pick-up position but movable to thread pick-up position, a
dog pivoted on the remover, said dog and actuator being in cooperative position preparatory to a weft replenishing operation to enable the transferrer arm when having an operating stroke 0 to move the remover to thread pick-up position,
, dog moving with thedetector and effective upon movement of the latter by a misplaced shuttle to move said dog relatively to the remover and outof cooperative relation with respect to said actuator element to prevent the transferrer arm on said operating stroke thereof from moving the remover to the pick-up position thereof.
5. In a weft replenishing loom, a bobbin transferrer member having an operating stroke on a weft replenishing operation of the loom, an actuator element on the transferrer member, a thread remover member movable from thread non-pickup position to thread pick-up position, an actuated element on the remover, one of said elements being movable with respect to the corresponding member, said elements being in cooperative position preparatory to a weft replenishing opera tion to transmit force from the transferrer member to the remover member to move the latter to the pick-up position thereof when the transferrer member has said operating stroke, a shuttle position detector in shuttle detecting position preparatory to a replenishing operation, and a rod connecting the detector and said one element effective to move the latter to non-cooperative position with respect to the other element in the event that the detector is moved by a misplaced shuttle.

In a weft replenishing loom, a transferrer arm having an operating stroke on a weft replenishing beat of the loom, an actuator fixed to and moving with the transferrer arm, a thread remover normally in thread non-pick-up position but movable to thread pick-up position, a dog element pivoted on the remover, a shuttle posi tion detector normally in non-detecting position but moving to shuttle detecting position incident to a weft replenishing operation of the loom, a rod connected to the detector and having sliding engagement relatively to the dog element and having a head for engagement with the dog element on the side of the latter opposite to the ascaeoe shuttle detector, said dogelementand actuator element being cooperatively related when the shuttle detector-is in detecting position, and said detector when engaged andmoved by a misplaced shuttle moving the rod in a direction to cause said head to move the dog element out of cooperative relation relatively to the actuator element to prevent the transferrer arm from mov ing the remover to thread pick-up position.
7. In a weft replenishing loom, a transferrer arm having an operating stroke on a weft replenishing beat of the loom, an actuator element fixed to and moving with the transferrer arm, a thread remover normally in thread non-pick-up position but movable to thread pick-up position,
thread pick-up position, an actuator element f xed to the transferrer arm, a dog element pivoted to the remover, a shuttle position detector normally in non-detecting position but moving to shuttle detecting position incident to a Weft replenishing operation, a rod connected at one end thereof to the detector and having the other a dog element pivoted on the remover in position to be moved by the actuator elementon a weft replenishing beat of the loom to enable the transferrer arm' to move the remover to the thread pick-up position thereof, a shuttle position demoving to detecting position incident to a weft replenishing operation, a rod connected to the shuttle detector and having sliding engagement with the dog element, a spring on said rod between the dog element and the shuttle detector, the shuttle detector when moving to detecting position moving said spring against the dog element to move the latter into cooperative relation with respect to the actuator element and the rod effective to move the dog element out of cooperative relation with respect to the actuator element if the shuttle detector is moved by a misplaced shuttle. In a weft replenishing loom having a stationary stud, a transferrer arm pivoted on said stud, a thread remover mounted for pivotal movement on the stud from thread non-pick-up position to 20. tector normally in non-detecting position but end thereof slidably related with respect to the dog element and having a head for engagement with the dog element on the side of the latter opposite to the shuttle detector, a spring on the rod between the dog element and the shuttle detector said detector when moving to shuttle detecting position causing the rod to move the spring and cause the latter to move the dog element into position for cooperative relation with respect to the actuator element when the transferrer arm has an operating stroke, said shuttle feeler moving from the shuttle detecting to the non-detecting position thereof during the latter part of the operating stroke of the transferrer arm and said" dog element moving around said stud and sliding in a given direction along said rod away from said head prior to return of the shuttle feeler tot-he normal position thereof, said detector when returning to the non-detecting position thereof causing a reverse sliding of the rod relatively to move the head toward the dog,
