On alternate picks of the loom when shuttle S occupies box B and the lay moves forwardly the detector will determine the condition of weft in the shuttle and when the latter is depleted of Weft the solenoid 35 will be energized to lift its core 36 to operate mechanism described hereinafter.
A relatively large stud 40 is fastened to the lower part of the loom frame and has mounted thereon a regularly rocking lever 4| which carries a roll 42 located in the groove 43 of a cam 44 on the loom bottom shaft 45. This shaft is geared by mechanism not shown to the top shaft in such a manner that the bottom shaft makes one rotation for two rotations of the top shaft. A dog 46 is pivoted to the forward end of lever- 4|, the left endas viewed in Fig, 1,.and normally 32 is pivoted at 56 on a stationary support 51 secured to the stud 40.
The forward end of setting lever 48 is connected to vertical rod 60 the upper end of which 'is pivoted to a rocking head 6| pivoted at 62 on a fixed support. The head is provided with a latch lifter 63 and a shuttle position detecting feeler 64. A spring 65 normally holds the forward end of the setting lever down so that the latch lifter 63 permits the transfer latch M to remain in low position and the shuttle feeler 64 in its front position where it will not be engaged by the shuttle.
In the matter thus far described, the lay L reciprocates once for each beat of the loom and dog 46 rises every second beat preferably while the shuttle is on that side of the 100m opposite the magazine. When the detector D calls areplenishing operation the dog 46 will be deflected from its normal position under the shelf 41 by a trip 6! controlled by the cradle 31 due to actuation of the solenoid 35. 1A5 the front end of lever 4| rises under these conditions the rod 60 will be elevated, the lifter63 will-raise the latch |4 into the path of the bunter l3, and the shuttle feeler 64 will be moved rearwardly to its shuttle feeling position. The loom is thus set for a replenishing operation. At the same time that rod 60 is raised the stud 50 descends on a working stroke either to lower the positioner hook 32 if the controller lever 55 is in forward position, that is, to the left as viewed in Fig. l, or leave the book 32 unmoved if the controller 55 is in rear position. Rocking of the magazine M about its pivot 2| from one position to theother position thereof is therefore seen to depend upon whether the positioner hook 32 is in or out of the path of the descending stud 50 as the loom is set for a transfer operation. As previously used the controller lever 55 has been connected to shifting shuttle boxes but in the present instance the boxes are omitted and other means are provided to move lever 55.
Except as indicated hereinafter the matter thus far described is of common construction and for a further understanding of the structure and operation thereof reference may be had to Patents Nos. 2,054,173, 2,054,192, 2,128,974, and 2,262,308.
In carrying my present invention into effect,
described support 51 has a foot 70 which is preferably bolted at 1| to the floor under the loom for the purpose of holding the support 51 firmly in stationary position. The controller lever 55 has rotatably mounted thereon a roll 12 under the pivot 56 for engagement with a cam l3 which has three equiangularly spaced high dwells l4 and three intervening low dwells 15. These high and low dwells are effective to move the controller 55 from one extreme position to the other extreme position thereof as the cam makes a "rotation.
The cam is rigid with respect to a ratchet wheel :18 having six teeth 19 for cooperation with a pawl 80 pivoted at 8| to a feed lever 82. The latter is pivoted on a stud 83 carried by a stand 84 fastened to the floor. A yielding lock arm 85 also pivoted on stud 83 is connected to a spring 86 the effect of which is to move the arm 85 against a yielding lock wheel 81 turning with and rigid with respect to the cam and ratchet wheel. A spring 88 between stand 84 and lever 55 holds roll 12 against the cam 13 and tends to move 1ever 55 rearwardly. A stud 90 carried by the support 84 affords pivotal support for th cam, the ratchet and the lock Wheel.
The feed lever 82 is connected to an upwardly extending rod 9| pivoted at 92 to the rear arm 49 of the setting lever. The location of stud 90 with respect to stud and the amplitude of movement of .the setting lever 48 are such that a full movement of the setting lever will move the pawl 80 through a suflicient distance to give th ratchet 18 a turn. t
In the operation of my invention it may be 7 assumed that the ma azine is in the position I provide means for rocking the magazine so that bobbins for successive transfer operations are drawn alternately from the stacks R or 'R' to enable the full capacity ofthe magazine to be used for replenishment of the shuttle. The previously shown in Fig, 1 with the lowest bobbin in stack R in transfer position under the transferrer arm I6 and that roll 12 is on a low dwell 15 of the cam so that the upper part of the controller 55 is held in its rear position by spring 88 with positioner hook 32 out of the path of the stud 50. The magazine will be held yieldingly in the normal position shown in Fig. 1 by sprin 33 until caused to .low position where it can engage the next tooth of the ratchet wheel. After the shuttle has been replenished by a bobbin from stack R the setting lever 48 will move in a counterclockwise direction as viewed in Fig, 1 due to the action of spring '65 and'the shape of the cam which controls the motion of the dog 46. Thi return motion of the setting lever occursafter the lay has moved rearwardly an appreciable distance behind its front center position and afterthe transferrer arm has been restored to its normally raised position. During the return motion of ,the setting lever rod 9| will be raised and pawl will have a working stroke to turn the ratchet wheel 18 one-sixth of a rotation and move a high dwell 14 under roll [2. Controller lever 55 is thus 'moved forwardly :to shift the positioner hook, 32 to the left a viewed in Fig. 1 into the pathofthestujd 50.

The controller 55 is therefore returned to-the position it occupied for the firsttransfer and on'the thirdtransfer the stud 50 will miss the hook 32 andpermit the magazine to" remain in the position shown in Figs. 1 and 4 so that the shuttle will be replenished for the second time by a bobbin derived from the front stack R.
As succeeding transfers occur the cam I3 is moved with a step by step movement and the controller 55 rocks first backwardly and then forwardly to place the hook 32 in the path of the stud 50 for alternate transfer operations of the loom and'out of said path of the stud for the intervening operations. In'this way the bobbins are drawn alternately from the two,
stacks R, and R. for the replenishment of the shuttle S and the full capacity of the magazine can be utilized for renewing the weft in the shuttle.
In order that the relation between thefinger 61 and the dog '40 may be adapted to the condition set forth in the foregoing description I prefer as shown in Fig. 6 to hold the cradle 31 in loom set forth herein and employed for weaving fabrics having two different wefts.
In the present instance, however, the weft is all the same and there is noneed for shifting the cradle 31, therefore I employpins I03 in the guide rod I04 of frame I02 so placed as to prevent shifting movement of the cradle 31 along rod I04. From the foregoing it will be seen that I have provided a simple form of control for the controller the effect of which is to move the positioner hook '32 into and out of the path of the 'actuating stud '50 to permit replenishment ofthe shuttle" first from one stack and then from the other stack of reserve bobbins in the magazine. The rocking of the magazine to its two [operating positions is effected by control mechanism for the controller 55 which derives its actuating force from the setting lever 48. It is to be understood that the magazine tends normally to assume the position shown in Fig. 1 by action of spring'33 and after it has been rocked to the position of Fig. 5 incident to depression the control for those positions'is such that bobnected to the controller lever 55 by a rod I05 which will have the effect of shifting the cradle, as usual when the loom operates with two shuttles, so that one or another of the indicator fingers 61 will be operatively related. with respect to the trip I00, This latter procedure, however, requires unnecessary movement of parts which can remain stationary and it is for this latter reason that I prefer to use the pins It will be obviousfrom the foregoing description that the forward end of the setting lever "48 rises before transfer starts and remains raised until after the transferrer arm I6 has returned to its normal raised position. Movement of the setting lever therefore occurs before and after the interval assigned to the replenishing operabins-are drawn alternately from stacks R and R' for successive operations of the loom. The magazine can normally place the rear stack of bobbins in replenishing position, if desired, as
shown in Patent No. 2,128,974 without departing from the' spirit of my'invention,
Having thus described my invention it Will be seen that changes and modifications may be made therein by those skilled in the art without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention and I do not wish to be limited to the details herein disclosed, but what I claim is:
1. In a weft replenishing loom operating with a shuttle to be replenished by bobbins drawn froma plurality'of stacks of reserve bobbins in 'a magazine which rocks to place the stacks one at a time in replenishing position, weft replenishing mechanism to move a bobbin from the-stack in replenishing position into the shuttle upon depletion'of weft in the latter, an actuator having a movement whenever the weft replenishing mechanism operates, a positioner for the magazine operated by said actuator Iand a controller for the positioner operated by the actuator and effective to cause the positioner to effect movements of the-magazine so that the stacks move to replenishing position one at a time and in a given sequence during a succession of replenishing operations of the loom.
2. In a weft replenishing loom operating with a shuttle and having a pair of stacks of reserve I bobbins in a movable magazine which is northe shuttle when depleted with a bobbin from for the magazine movable into the path of the actuator and thereupon caused by the latter to move the magazine to place said other stack in replenishing position, the magazine remaining in normal position when the positioner is out of the path of the actuator, a controller for the positioner, means operated by the actuator to give the controller a step by step movement, one Step foreach replenishing operation of the loom, and connections between the controller and the positioner to cause the latter to be out of the path of said actuator on alternate replenishing operations of the loom and in said path of the actuator on the intervening replenishing operation of the loom to cause said stacks to be in replenishing position alternately for successive replenishing operations of the loom.
3. In a weft replenishing loom operating with a shuttle and having a pair of stacks of reserve bobbins in a movable magazine which is normally positioned to locate one of said stacks in replenishing position and the other stack out of replenishing position, mechanism to replenish the shuttle when depleted with a bobbin from whichever stack is in replenishing position, an actuator having a working stroke for each replenishing operation of the loom, a cam having high and low dwells, means operated by the actuator to give the cam step by step movements, a positioner for the magazine, and connections between the cam and the positioner effective to move said positioner into the path of the actuator for alternate replenishing operations of the loom, said positioner when in the path of the actuator being moved by the latter on a working stroke thereof to move the magazine to place said other stack in replenishin position.
4. In a weft replenishing loom operating with a, shuttle and having a pair of stacks of reserve bobbins in a movable magazine which is normally positioned to locate one of said stacks in replenishing position and the other stack out of replenishing position, a, normally stationary lever, means to lock said lever preparatory to a replenishing operation of the loom, weft replenishing mechanism set for operation by the lever when the latter rocks to effect movement of a bobbin from whichever stack is in replenishing position into the shuttle, a positioner for the magazine, and a controller for the positioner operated by said lever and effective to cause alternate operations of the lever to actuate said positioner and cause the latter to move the magazine from normal position to place said other stack in replenishing position.
, 5. In a weft replenishing loom operating with a shuttle to be replenished by bobbins drawn from a pair of stacks of reserve bobbins in a magazine which can rock to place either stack in replenishing position and is normally positioned to locate one of said stacks in replenishing position, weft replenishing mechanism to transfer a bobbin from the stack which is in replenishing position into the shuttle when the latter is depleted of weft, an actuator having a movement for each replenishing operation of the loom, a hook operatively connected to the magazine and movable into and out of the path of the actuator and effective when in said path and moved by said actuator on a working stroke thereof to shift the magazine to cause the other of said stacks to move to replenishing position, a cam having high and low dwells, a cam lever positioned by said cam and operatively connected to said hook, a pawl and ratchet mechanism operatively connected to the cam and operated by the actuator whenever the latter has an operating stroke, said pawl and ratchet mechanism effective during successive movements thereof to cause the high and low dwells of the cam alternately to position the cam lever to effect movement of the hook into the path of the actuator for alternate operations of the latter.
6. In a. weft replenishing loom operating with a shuttle to be replenished by bobbins drawn from a pair of stacks of reserve bobbins in a magazine which can rock to place either stack in replenishing position and is normally positioned to locate one of said stacks in replenishing position, weft replenishing mechanism to transfer a bobbin from the stack which is in replenishing position into the shuttle when the latter is depleted of weft, an actuator having an operating stroke for each replenishing operation of the loom, a hook operatively connected to the magazine, a positioner for the hook shiftable to move the hook into and out of the path of the actuator, a control lever for the positioner, a cam having highand low dwells to engage the lever and move the same to effect movement of the positioner for the purpose of moving the hook into and out of the path of the actuator, and feed mechanism for the cam effective to cause the cam to move the lever for each operation of the actuator and thereby cause the hook to move into the path of the actuator on alternate working strokes thereof and efiect movement-of the hook out of the path of the actuator on the intervening strokes thereof.
