CRIB COVER Filed March 15, 1946 6 crow Patented Sept. 4, 1951 r Mabel G. Bloomfield, Detroit, Mich.
Application March 15, 1946; Serial No. 654,601
4 Claims. (Cl. 5-93) This invention relates to an improved cover for an infants crib.
The object is to provide a crib cover which will effectively protect the interior of the crib from drafts or cold and which is so constructed and arranged that it may be conveniently attached to a crib or removed therefrom. 7
Another object is to provide a crib cover so constructed that it exhibits an inner wall portion and an outer wall portion separated by a dead air space so as to insulate the interior of the crib.
Another object is to provide a crib cover which exhibits an inner wall portion having a bottom wall which is received underneath the mattress within the crib and has end walls and sidewalls secured to the bottom wall and secured to each other to extend as a liner over the inner faces of the side Walls and end walls of the crib. The cover also includes an outer wall portion which is an extension of the inner wall portion and completely covers the outer faces of the sides and ends of the crib and extends to the floor thereby preventing drafts of air underneath the crib.
A meritorious feature of the crib cover is that it may be fabricated of attractive, durable, washable fabric or the like. Such material may be moisture-resistant if desired. It is inexpensive as to cost and will not interfere with the operation of those cribs which are provided with movable wall sections.
Another meritorious feature of this crib cover is that the means whereby the cover is attached to the crib itself are inaccessible to the occupant so that the cover cannot be displaced. There is therefore no danger of the occupant pulling the covering so that it will fall in position to smother the baby.
Due to providing a crib cover of this character it is possible to get along with less bed covering or even without an bedding if the baby is provided with suitable sleeping garments. This is for the reason that the crib cover prevents drafts.
If padding is desired for the sides of the crib such such padding may be provided underneath the cover directly over the sides of the crib and secured thereto by attachments concealed beneath the crib cover.
Other objects, advantages and meritorious features of this invention will more fully appear from the following description, appended claims and accompanying drawing, wherein:
Figure 1 is a perspective of my improved cover disposed upon a conventional crib.
Figure 2 is a vertical sectional view taken on the line 2-2 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a vertical sectional view taken on the line 3-3 of Figure 1.
Figure 4 is a perspective of three wall sections of the crib cover shown separated from each other to illustrate their shape and construction.
This improved crib .cover is generally in the form of a double wall bag. The bag presents a generally rectangular shape in horizontal cross section. The outer wall portion of the cover is spaced from the inner wall portion providing an air space therebetween which serves to insulate the interior of the inner wall portion. The outer wall portion of the cover which extends over the outer surfaces of the sides and end walls of the crib is of substantially greater length or height than the inner Wall portion whereby such outer wall portion may be described as having a skirt that extends to the floor and prevents drafts from passing underneath the crib or entering the space between the inner and outer wall portions of the cover.
The cover here shown is preferably formed of suitable fabric which is not only durable and presents an attractive appearance but maybe resistant to the flow of air therethrough. The material of which the cover is made is preferably washable and non-shrinking. The cover is built up of a plurality of sections which are suitably stitched together. The particular number and shape of the sections is immaterial so long as the final form of the cover is obtained.
'In efiect the invention provides a combined liner and outer cover for a childs crib, the side walls l2 and. end walls 14 comprising portions connected to the side and end margins of the bottom panel In which are arranged to form a pocket for receiving the wall structure of the crib. The exterior wall structure of the pocket is of such length as to depend below the bottom panel and bottom of the crib to a point substantially adjacent the base of the crib supporting legs.
As here shown the cover is formed of a substantially rectangular bottom wall portion or panel I I] to which are attached along its opposite side margins two side wall portions l2. Attached to the opposite end margins of the bottom wall portion ID are two end wall portions l4. These side walls I2 and end walls I4 are secured together at their meeting corners. The securement of the side walls and end walls to the bottom wall and to each other may be by stitching or the like.
The bottom wall exhibits at each of its four of the bottom Wall are also provided at intermediate points with tie members ll shown in Figures 1, 2 and 4. These tie members I 1 secure the bottom wall to the crib between the ends of such bottom wall. v This interior wall structure exhibits a generally rectangular box like shape and 'is received within a crib such as is shown. A mattress may be placed therein over the bottom wall I!) holding the same against the bottom of the crib. The side walls and end walls of this interior box like form extend over the inner faces of the sides and ends of the crib as shown.
Each inner side wall portion 1 2 is provided with an outer side wall portion I2A which forms an extension of the inner wall portion l2 and is adapted to extend down over the outside of the side wall of the crib. Each end wall portion l.4 is provided with an outer wall portion MA which form an extension of the inner wall portion .14 and is adapted to extend down over the outside ofthe end walls of the crib. At substantially the meeting line of the inner wall portion I2 and the outer wall portion IZA of the side wall there is a tie member 22. This tie member is adapted to be tied over the side rail of the crib as shown in Figures 1 and 2. At substantially the meeting line of each inner end wall portion [4 and of the continuing outer wall portion 14A there is a tie member 24. This tie member is adapted to be tied over the end rail of the crib as shown in Figures 1 and 3.
These outer side wall portions I 2A and outer end wall portions MA are stitched together at the corners so as to form a continuous outer wall portion. The cover therefore exhibits a resemblance to a double walled bag wherein the inner wall and outer wall portions are continuous and spaced from each other providing a dead air space therebetween. Tie members 26 are provided at opposite margins of the side walls adjacent their corner attachment with the end walls. These tie. members 26 are adapted to be tied as shown in- Figure l to the crib to hold the outer wall portion down about the crib. It will be seen that each outer side wall portion [2A and each outer end wall portion I 4A is of a length to reach the floor as indicated in Figures 1, 2'and 3.
What I claim is:
1. .A combined liner and outer cover for a child's crib of the leg supported type utilizing a mattress over the bottom of the crib, said cover comprising a panel adapted to overlie the bottom of the crib body and underlie the mattress, and portions connected to the side and end margins of said panel arranged to form a pocket for receiving the wall structure of the crib and to surround the'exterior thereof, the exterior wall structure of said pocket being of such length as to depend below said panel to form a substantially dead air space around the wall structure of the crib body and provide a shield for'substantially eliminating drafts under the bottom of said body.
2. The arrangementset forth in claim 1 wherein means are attached to the combined liner and outer cover for securing the same to portions of the crib body.
3. In combination with a childs crib of the leg supported type utilizing a mattress overthe bottom of the crib, a combined liner andouter cover therefor comprising a panel overlying "the bottom of the cribloody and'underlying the mattress, and portions connected to the'side and end margins ofsaid panel arranged to 'formia pocket receiving the wall structure of the crib and surrounding the exterior thereof, the combined liner and outer cover being suspended from the. top margin of the crib body wall structure, the exterior wall structure of said pocket being'of such length as to depend below said panel to forms.
substantially-dead air space around the wall structure of the crib body andprovide a shield for substantially eliminating drafts under the bottom of said body.
l. The arrangement set forth in claim 3 wherein means attached to the combined liner and outer cover are secured to portions of the crib body. v
