Application March 18, 1948, Serial No. 15,608
1 Claim. '1, Our present invention relates to an improved sash lock of the type especiallyadapted for use with the conventionaldouble hung sash currently used in most buildings and designed to permit a limited opening of one sash but preventing further relative movement of either sash. The lock of our invention is adapted to be mounted on the inner wall of the frame of the upper sash at a point perhaps six inches above the lower sash and may be adjusted to limit the sash movement or -to a position out of the path of the lower sash so that the window may be fully opened.
In the accompanying drawings we have illustrated one complete example of the physical ernbodiment of our invention according to the best mode we have thus far devised, but it will be understood that various changes and alterations may be made in the exemplified structure within the scope of the appended claim.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a fragmentary front elevational view of a pair of sashes showing the lock in position to limit sash movement.
Figure 2 is a vertical transverse sectional View looking toward the lock.
Figure 3 is a horizontal sectional View looking down on the lock.
Figure 4 is a top plan View of the lock.
Figure 5 is a horizontal sectional view of the lock.
Referring now to the accompanying drawings wherein we illustrate the present preferred ein bodiment of our invention, we employ the side v frame 2 of an upper sash having a bottom frame 4, one corner of the frames being routed at 6 and the other grooved to receive the pane of glass 8 secured by putty IU.
The lock of our invention consists of a metal plate I2 having a pair of holes i4 therethrough for screws i6 by means of which the plate is secured to the routed corner of the side frame 2. An angular extension I8 has an opening 29 for screw 22 to secure the plate to the inner face of side frame 2.
One edge of the plate is curled at 2i and cut out to form spaced abutments 25. The arm 23 has an aperture 3G countersunk at 32 and the pin 34 is secured to the plate I2 by cap nut 36 having a flange 38 receivable in the countersunk aperture of the arm 28. A coiled spring 4] is located about the pin and Vis confined by nut 42 formed with a cylindrical housing 44. The end of the pin 34 may be burred or deformed to prevent the cap nut from being removed.
lWith the lock mounted as described it will be apparent that by turning the cap nut counterclockwise, tension on the spring will be lessened and the arm 28 may be raised or lowered as desired, the arm being lifted to pass over the abutments.
With the arm in desired position however, the cap nut is turned home gently to exert sufficient pressure on the arm to prevent its displacement. As extended in Figs. 1, 2 and 3 the arm 28 will be in the path of movement of the lower sashy from 46 and will prevent movement thereof beyond the lower edge of the extended arm.
Having thus fully described our invention,
what we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is: Y
A sash lock for double-hung sash frames comprising a plate adapted tobe secured to the upper sash, an extension arranged angularly with respectto said plate, there being an opening in said extension for receiving a securing element, one edge of said plate being provided with a pair yof spaced abutments, an exteriorly threaded pin REFERENCES CITED The following references are of record in the le of this patent:
