My invention relates to new and useful improvements in a shade cover and is directed more particularly to the provision of a device for covering a shade or curtain so as to keep the same clean and to an improvement in the means for adjusting the device so that it may be adapted to fit a curtain of any size.

It is the principal object of my invention to provide a novel and improved construction of the type wherein the components of the shade device are adjustable as to each other so as to fit any size curtain or shade, and which is operable with a maximum amount of ease and with a minimum of effort.

With the above primary object in view, it is another object of my invention to provide a construction of the above described character which presents a pleasing appearance and which is relatively simple and compact in accordance with the demands and desires of the purchasing public as well as of the manufacturers thereof and which is not only attractive in its appearance and practical in its value but also reliable in its operation and thoroughly efficient in its use.

It is a still further object to provide a device which is constructed of relatively simple parts which are adapted to be readily assembled and which when once assembled are positively and securely retained in operative relationship and which cannot be readily separated from each other, either accidentally or otherwise.

Other prime objects of my invention include: first, the provision of a simplified construction and arrangement of the component parts of a shade cover which is strong, durable and compact in its structure and is distinctive in its appearance; second, the attainment of a high degree of speed of construction and assembly of the device due to its simplification in design and its unique composition of parts; third, the provision of an improved shade cover which may be made more economically and with fewer operations in the manufacture of its parts, as well as in the assembly of the same, than prior devices known in the art, and fourth, the provision of a construction which may be readily installed with respect to the various variety of purposes for which it is intended.

All of the above objects, I accomplish by means of such structure and relative arrangement of parts thereof, as will fullyappear by a perusal of the description below and by various specific features which will be hereinafter set forth.

(Cl. 16021) To the above citedand other ends and with the foregoing and various other novel features andadvantages and other objects of my invention as will become more readily apparent as the description proceeds, my invention consists in certain novel features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more particularly pointed out in the claims hereunto annexed and more fully described and referred to in connection with the accompanying drawings wherein:

In the above mentioned drawing annexed hereto and forming a part of this specification, I have shown but one embodiment of my invention which is deemed preferable, but. it is to be understood that changes and modifications may be within the scope of the appended claims without departing from the spirit of the invention.

Referring now to the drawing more in detail, and referring more particularly to the preferred form of my invention selected for illustrative purposes, I have shown a cover member which comprises a pair of U-shaped channel members l0 and 2, one of which is snugly and slidably receivable within the other, as will be appreciated by reference to the drawings, particularly Fig. 4. That is to say, as shown, member I2 at one end thereof is slidably receivable within member ID at one.end thereof.

At the outermost or free ends of the members it and l 2, end wall members I l and l 3 respectively are provided which enclose the ends thereof.

The members l0 and I2 in combination, together with the end wall members i l and I 3, comprise the unitary cover member so as to make it a complete unit, open only on its bottom or underside, as shown in Figs. 1-3 and all for purposes as will be appreciated as this description proceeds.

The rear side portion of each of the members l0 and 12 extends downwardly below the plane of the underside of the cover member to fornr rear legs l6 and [6 respectively.

The forward side portion of each of the members l and I2 is not so extended.

Open slots l5 are provided in the end walls II and 13 for the reception of the trunnions 20 of a curtain roll 22 on which is carried the curtain or shade 24 in one of the conventional manners.

As a special feature of my invention, I provide an end portion of the rear leg portion 16' which is turned up upon itself so as to.provide a tubelike member [8 as'sho'wn in Figs. 3 25114114.

At the outer end of the rear leg portion 16, I

likewise upturn an end portion 19' thereof in a similar manner for purposes of securing thereinto a rod member l9 adapted to be slidably receiv able within the member l8 as shown in Rig. 4. It will be understood however that the rod member l9 may be otherwise fixed'to the reardeg portion IS with the same desired results.

In operation, with the member I 9 inserted into the member 18, the members ID and 12 are slidable relative to each other whereby an over-all length-of any desired dimension may'be obtained.

It will be understoodthat' the channel members may be of such -configuration' that the open =undersides thereof may be more-or'le'ss restricted'so that, if desired, the opening may be almost completely enclosed, bei-n'gonly of such'dimension as to permit the easy withdrawalof the curtain from or insertion of the curtain into the cover interior, it being an obvious desideraitum to maintain small an opening-a'spossib1e"S0-'as to aid-in-the exclusion of dust therefrom.

The invention may be embodied in other specific forms without departing from the essential characteristics thereof. Hence, the "present embodiments are therefore to be considered in a'll respects merely as being illustrative and notas being restrictive, the scope of "the invention being indicated by the appended c'laims *rather than by the foregoing description, and all m'odific'ations and variations as fall within the meaning and purview and range of equivalency of "the appended claims 'are therefore intended to be 'embr'a'cdtherein.

1. A'cover Tor 'awi-ndowshademna roller provided with outwardly extending trunnions at opposite ends thereof comprising in combination, a pair of elongated cover sections formed from relatively thin rigid sheet material to the shape of Us having upper transverse walls and transversely spaced front and rear side walls depending therefrom, said cover members being in telescoping sliding engagement to provide a cover of various lengths, end walls secured to the outer ends of the walls =ofsaid sections havinsgslots extending upwardly from lower edges thereof whereby the cover may be disposed above and at forward and rear sides of a shade and roller with the upperisides of the slots resting on said trunnions, a side wall of one of said sections provided with an elongatedtube and a corresponding wall of the other'section having arod secured thereto which is slidable in said tube.
