This invention relates to new and useful improvements in a sealing machine attachment for gummed tape dispensers. This is a substitute for my abandoned application filed on January 29, 1944, Serial Number 520,364.

' More particularly, the invention proposes an attachment for a gummed tape dispenser having a wall with a slot through which the gummed tape passes. It is proposed to provide an open top vessel for water, associated with means by which this vessel may bemounted on its. back side upon said gummed tape dispenser at apoint beneath said slot. A depressible tape guiding frame is vertically slidably mounted on said vessel for making it easy to dip said gummed tape into the vessel when desired.

It is proposed to provide said vessel with a wick for wetting the gummed side of said tape.

I The invention further contemplates the provision of serrations upon the front top edge of said vessel forming an edge which will facilitate tearing a section of the wetted gummed tape from the remaining portion. I

Still further the invention proposes to so arrange the attachment that it may be mounted in various positions on the gummed tape dispenser, as required.

For further comprehension of the invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference'will be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, and to the appended claims in which the various novelfeatures of the invention are more particularly set forth. In the accompanying drawings forming a material part of this disclosure Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a gummed tape dispenser provided with a sealing machine attachment constructed in accordance with this invention. v

The sealing machine attachment, in accordance with this invention, is intended for a gummed tape dispenser l0 having a wall ll formed with a slot l2 through which the gummed tape [3 passes. An open top vessel I4 is adapted to hold water 'or other wetting agents.

This means comprises several headed studs 15 mounted .upon the back wall of said vessel [4 and cooperative with complementary bayonet slots 55 formed in said wall I I.

A depressible tape guiding frame I? is verti cally slidably mounted on the vessel I4 and is for the purpose of dipping the gummed tape into the vessel when this is desired. This framell is of substantially inverted Ll-shaped shape having a top arm portionlfl and side arms [9. The side, arms l9 are provided withinwardly directed projections 26 engaging vertical slots 2l formed upon the sides of the vessel [4. These slots 2] have recess-ed or deep ended top and bottom end portions 22 into which the projections 20 may resiliently engage to hold the frame ll in an elevated and in a lowered position.

A wick 23 is mounted within the vessel l4 and is adapted to absorb the liquid from the vessel. This wick Z3 is at the top of the container l4 so that the gummed tape l3 maybe pressed against the wick whenit is desired to wet same. The top arm is of the frame ll is formed with aroundedbottom portion, see particularly Figs-l and 3, which is capable ofholding the gummed tape 13 against the wick 23 when the frame l1 isin its lowered position. This rounded portion permits the gummed tape I3 to be drawn out to a selected length. i

In Fig. 6 the wetting vessel I4" is illustrated with a downwardly curve-d lip l5 at the upper edge of its inner side wall 14*, adapted to be engaged in the slots I2 or IE for supporting the wetting vessel M" on the gummed tape'dispenser It. In other respects this form of the invention is similar to that previously shown and like reference numerals identify like parts in each of the several views.

The operation of the attachment is as follows;

then holds the gummed tape against the wick 23 of the vessel l4 so that it is moistened as itis drawn out.

While I have illustrated and described the preferred embodiments of my invention, it is' to be understood that I do not limit myself to the precise constructions herein disclosed. and the right is reserved to all changes and modifications coming within the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims.

I-Iaving thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent is:

1. In combination with a gummed tape dispenser having a wall with a slot through which the gummed tape passes, anopen top vessel for water, means for attaching said vessel at its back side upon said gummed tape dispenser at'a point beneath said slot, and a depressible tape guiding frame vertically slidably mounted on said vessel for dipping said gummed tape into said vessel, saidattachingmeans comprising headed studs on said vessel engageable with bayonet openings formed on said Wall.

2. A gummed tape dispenser having-a wall with a slot through which the gummed tape passes and upon which an open top vessel for water is adapted to be supported immediately below said s'lot, an open top vessel mounted on said wall below said slot and having a wick for moistening the-gummed tape as it is drawn through the slot, means on said vessel for. holding the tape being drawn through-the slot in contact with the wick to insure its becoming moistened, comprising a tape guiding frame ofinverted U-shape havinga top arm formed with a rounded bottom face for urgingthe tape against said wick and side arms extending downwards'a-long the'sides of said vessel, and-projections on the free-ends of said sidearmsslidably engagin complementary vertical slots formed in the adjacent sides of said vessel permitting said frame to be raised from a lowered operative position to a raised inoperative pos-i-' tion and vice versa.

3. A gummed tape dispenser having a wall with a-slotthrough which the gummed tape passes and upon which an open top vessel for water is adapted to be supported immediately below said slot, an open top vessel mounted on the said-wall below said slot, a wick in said vessel and exposed in the open top thereof for moistening the gummed tape as it is drawn through the slot, means on said vessel for holding the tape being drawn through the slot in contact with the wick to insure its becoming moistened, comprising a tape guiding frame of-iinvert'e'd U-sha'pe having a top arm-formed witlva rounded bottom face for urging the tape against said Wick and side arms extending downwards along the sides of said vessel-and projections on the free ends of said side arms-i slidably engaging complementary vertical slots formed in the adjacent sides of said vessel permitting said frame to be raised from a lowered operative position to a raised inoperative position and. vice-versa, said projections being engageable into complementary recesses at the bottoms of said slots when said guiding frame is lowered for releasably retaining said guiding frame in an operative ldwered position.

4'. Agummed tape dispenser having a wall with a' slot through which the gummed tape passes andnpon which anopen top vessel for water is adapted-,tobe supported immediately below said slot, an open top vesselmounted on the said wall below said slot, a wick in saidvessel and exposed in the open top thereof for moistening the gummed tape as it is drawn through the slot, means on'saidvesselfor holding the tape being drawn-through the slot in contact with the wick to insure its becoming moistened, comprising a tapeguiding frame of inverted U-shape having a top arm formed'with a rounded bottom face for urging the tape against said'wick and'side arms extendingdownwards along the sides of said vessel, and projections onthe free ends of said side arms slidably engaging complementary vertical slots formed in' the adjacent sides of said vessel permitting said frame to'be'raised from a lowered operative position to a raised inoperative position and=vice versa; said projections being engageable intocomplementary recessesat the tops of said slots when said" guiding frame is raised for releasably retaining said guiding frame in an inoperative raisedyposition.
