SYNTHETIC RUBBER GARBAGE CONTAINER Filed Dec. 19, 1945 IN VEN TOR. H H RY R STINE *kki;
Patented June 26, 1951 SYNTHETIC RUBBER GARBAGE CONTAINER Harry R. Stine, Inglewood, Calif., assignor, by
mesne assignments, to Ncsco, Inc., a corporation of New Jersey Application December 19, 1945, Serial No. 635,893
1 Claim. 1
An object of this invention is to provide a synthetic rubber garbage container wherein the container is strengthened by a spring steel frame and is provided with a lid so constructed and arranged as to prevent any dog from nosing the lid off and scattering the garbage over the street.
Another object of the invention is the novel construction and arrangement whereby the invention shall be of simple construction and therefore of inexpensive manufacture, and yet which will be thoroughly practical and efficient in use.
A feature of the invention is the novel con struction whereby the steel spring frame and rubber fabricated covering makes the garbage container flexible and prevents dents of any kind whatsoever.
Another object of the invention is the smooth surface inside of the container free from corrugations that have the tendency to permit garbage to stick therebetween and this synthetic rubber container is so arranged and constructed that acid-fats, oils, etc, will not cause corrosion.
The invention may have a variety of applications and certain of the features of construction may be embodied in a variety of structures.
Other objects, advantages and features of invention may appear from the accompanying drawings, the subjoined detailed description and the appended claim.
The accompanying drawings illustrate the invention.
Figure 1 is a plan view of the garbage container omitting the lid and having parts broken away and partly in section to disclose interior construction.
Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the invention with parts broken away to show interior construction with some parts in section and With the handle shown in upright position.
Fig. 3 is an enlarged sectional fragmental detail view of one of the top sections showing how the lid fits upon the container and a fragment of the handle is also shown.
Fig. 4 is a detail view of the steel spring frame that is used to reenforce the container.
The invention comprises a synthetic rubber garbage container l having a body portion 2, that is reenforced by a spring steel frame 3 that is constructed as shown in Fig. 4 of the drawing.
The body portion 2 is so constructed and arranged as to permit a steel Wire handle 4 to be attached thereto and is also provided with a bead 5 at its top upon which is fitted a lid 6 having a depression 1 therein to provide a tight fit and to prevent any animal from knocking the lid off and scattering the garbage over the sidewalk and street.
The container I is constructed and arranged for strength by being provided with stiffening ribs 8 that are made of synthetic rubber the same as the body portion 2 and this construction will permit the dropping of the container on the sidewalk without making the noise that is characteristic of a metal container.
The steel spring frame 3 is provided with members 9, two of these members provide an extension I9, that permits the wire handle 4 to hook thereon.
To provide a means of raising the lid 6 a handle II is provided that is fabricated into the rubber fabrication of the lid.
The body portion 2 is constructed of rubber fabricated layers l2 and on the inside at the bottom is provided a large fillet l3 that will not permit any garbage to adhere thereto.
It is understood that the rubber fabricated garbage container body may be made in different shapes and sizes as for instance in climates where the weather is cold it may be made of cone shape to allow easy disposal of the contents if frozen, and various parts of the body may be modified without departing from the spirit of the invention; but the form shown is at present deemed most desirable for easy and cheap construction and ready interchange of parts.
I claim:
In a synthetic rubber fabric garbage container of the character set forth comprising a body portion having encased within its body a steel spring frame unit having extensions protruding outward from said body; a steel wire handle attached to said extension; a lid having a handle that is fabricated into the fabrication of the lid; said body portion being provided at its top edge with a bead and said lid being provided with a depression that fits snugly and tightly over said bead to prevent any animal from nosing off the lid to scatter the garbage over the street and a plurality of fabricated stiffening ribs on the outside of the body portion.
