Patented `lune 5, 1951 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE TRIPLE SPOUT OIL CAN Gilbert Benton, Concord, N. C.
Application May 29, 1947, Serial No. 751,272
1 Claim. l This invention relates to an oil can and more especially to a means for comprising a lubricant container and a spout extending therefrom, said spout having a plurality of branch spouts extending therefrom with means in some or all of the branch spouts for regulating the ilow of' the lubricant therethrough, with pump means in the lubricant container for forcing a lubricant through the spout and branch spouts. The oil can is especially adapted for use in applying lubricant to spinning frames and the like, the `branch pipes being so spaced as to correspond with the spacing of the bearing portions of the rolls of a spinning frame and whereby the three branch spouts can be simultaneously applied to the three bearing portions of the rolls of a spinning frame and one charge of lubricant expelled through the spout will be distributed through the branch spouts and simultaneously applied to the three bearing portions of the spinning frame.
It can also be used for lubricating all kinds of drafting machinery in textile mills, or any kind of machinery where it is desired to simultaneously lubricate a plurality of spaced bearings.
Some of the objects of the invention having been stated, other objects will appear as the description proceeds when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is an elevation partly in section of the improved lubricant dispenser;
Figure 2 is an enlarged sectional View taken along the line 2 2 in Figure 1;
Figure 3 is a cross-sectional view taken through one of the branch spouts and indicated at 3--3 in Figure 2.
Referring more speciiically to the drawings, the numeral I indicates a lubricant container having a handle II and having a spout I2 provided with an enlarged threaded portion I4 threadably secured in a neck of the container i6. The enlarged portion I4 has threadably secured therein a tubular member I1 which is secured in position by means of a jamb nut I8. To the lower end of tube I'I is connected a cylinder 20 having slidably mounted thereover a cylinder 2l.
A compression spring 22 is disposed in the cylinders 20 and 2| and normally tends to move the cylinder 2l to the right in Figure 1 with respect to the cylinder 2|). The cylinder 2I has a plurality of openings 24 therein through which lubricant may flow into the cylinders when cylinder 2l is in lowered position. The cylinder 2l has secured thereto as at 26 an operating rod or link 2l which slidably penetrates the enlarged portion I4 and also slidably penetrates a pump handle 23, the link 21 having an enlarged knob or nut 29 thereon to prevent its passing through the opening in the end of lever 28.
(Cl. Z22-478) The lever 28 is pivotally mounted as at 36 so that it can be oscillated on pivot 36 to actuate the cylinder 2i and to force a lubricant through a passageway 32 of spout I2. The spout I2 is curved as at 35 and also additional branch pipes 35 and 3l are secured to and have a passageway 38 therethrough which communicates with the passageway 32. The end of portion 35 as well as branch pipes 36 and 3i have threadably secured thereon a nozzle 40 and in the ends of each of the portions 35, 36 and 31 is secured a spider member 42, which has integral therewith a stem 43, which has a truncated conical portion 44 thereon fitting into a restricted portion 45 of each of the nozzles 40. Whereby, it is seen that by adjusting the position of a nozzle 40 with relation to its pipes 35, 36 and 3l, the amount of lubricant allowed to flow out of each nozzle 40 can be regulated.
In the drawings and specilication there has been set forth a preferred embodiment of the invention, and although specific terms are employed, they are used in a generic and descriptive sense only, and not for purposes of limitation, the scope of the invention being defined. in the claim.
I claim:
A lubricant dispensing device comprising a portable lubricant container having a handle and a pump lever adjacent said handle, a pipelike spout extending from a point on the lubricant container adjacent said handle, said spout having a passageway therethrough gradually diminishing in size as it extends from the container and being bent laterally at its end remote from the container and having a dispensing nozzle on its remote end, a plurality of spaced branch pipes connected to the spout and extending from the spout at spaced points being parallel to each other and parallel to the laterally bent portion on the end of the spout, each branch pipe having an adjustable nozzle thereon for regulating the flow of lubricant through each individual branch spout, and each branch pipe also having a valve therein for regulating'the flow of lubricant therethrough.
